Looks like Eastern Michigan has poached the Detroit Mercy coach, Maddie Dugan. Wonder if she will take any players and how the EMU players will react to this one.

Really good hire. When I watched them, I thought Mercy was one of the best coached teams outside the top 25. Stayed in some games, they had no business being in with their talent level.

Good to hear. I had only caught some parts of their later games and a little of the fall ball stuff.

I heard Detroit Mercy has promoted their new assistant to Head Coach, so they will have a little stability there. Hopefully they can continue on with some success.

Stability? The assistant, now head coach, hasn't coached one day with the team yet.

Having the existing assistant coach take over the team is absolutely stabilizing. All of the players know the coach.

Stabilizing, if it the asst coach they just named hasn't she only been there for a couple weeks? When did she meet the players? Plus she has only coached a the NAIA level has no NCAA experience, doesn't know the rules or level of play she is getting into, looking at her former team their record was average and roster sizes low does not sound like she is ready for D1. To me it looks like UDM is throwing their hands up, saying we give up we have been through x amount of coaches, no sense in posting the job lets take the easier route and not waste anytime or effort on the program. If I was a player or parent I would be questioning how much do they care about this program and look other where.

It’s the 119th ranked team. Sam Apuzzo isn’t going to coach there. People have to start getting experience somewhere and this is how it happens. Has nothing to do with the admin throwing up their hands. I have no idea who the coach is or how long she’s been there, but this is how coaches get experience.

I would tend to agree. Detroit Mercy is a niche school when it comes to academics and they have some limitations on the ability to pull recruits as a result.

She was named an assistant July 1. Not sure how many players she has talked to face to face. Better keep the goalie from the portal.

Notre Dame names Ellie Masera assistant coach.

Yes, they hired Caroline Carnal (spelling?) and finished hires with Ellie. Considering her talent, accomplishments, who she played for, and her work as a pro, she should be a great addition to Notre Dame.

You can find the correct spelling of Caroline Curnal on ND’s lax website:

“The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Christine Halfpenny announced Caroline Curnal as the newest addition to her staff Thursday, August 1. Curnal joins the Irish staff as an assistant coach after spending the last year in the same role for the University of Pennsylvania’s women’s lacrosse program.

“Caroline will be working with both the offense and draw units this season,” said Halfpenny. “She brings high level draw expertise, which will make an immediate impact on our program. Her energy, focus, IQ, and work ethic are all qualities that made her an excellent fit!”

She helped guide the program to a 15-5 season, where they advanced all the way to the NCAA quarterfinal round in 2024. Penn ranked as high as fifth during the course of the regular season, boasted one of the strongest defensive units in the country, and saw Niki Miles break program records for draw controls in a game and a season. Miles was one of four first-team All-Ivy and three All-Americans on the roster, and another of those All-America picks (Izzy Rohr) was the Ivy League Defender of the Year for the second straight season.

Curnal, a 2023 Villanova graduate, started 47 of the 54 games she played in and totaled 94 points and 17 assists for 111 points. In addition to her record 382 draws, she had 34 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers.

She capped off her Wildcat career as the team captain and draw specialist, breaking the program’s career draw record with 382 and the single-single season mark with 155. She finished with 41 goals and eight assists, scoring in 14 of the 17 games, and earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST first team. That was her second appearance on the first team, as she also garnered the honor in 2022 when she also was first-team IWLCA All-Region.”

Talented players and likely solid future coaches for sure, but I don't think the loss of Sear for ND can be understated. His addition 2 years ago was a key reason for ND's offensive resurgence. (You can also look to see what happened to Michigan after he left.)

Adam was an amazing assistant and was loved by virtually everyone that’s worked with him. It was a big loss when he left Michigan and ND will feel it, too. I can’t say Halfpenny is the most loved coach at all.

It was posted a while ago. Esposito left Florida for Clemson.

Notre Dame would have seemed to be above handing the offense to a second year coach and a first year coach regardless of how good they are. Offensive coaching will be really important there with all the losses on offense.
