Granting an extra year of eligibility was a colossal mistake by the NCAA. It created this wild west environment while simultaneously screwing all the kids who were displaced by a rental senior.

Anyone know any of these kids who got screwed by these rental seniors? People have been mentioning this for 3 years now, who are all these kids who never got to play and who’s future got destroyed because a team brought in someone else? Anyone got names?

Which, by the way, they could have done with or without the COVID ruling and could have happened in any number of different ways. No one is guaranteed a spot

Fairfield leading scorer Jack McKenna in the portal: https://twitter.com/tyxanders/status/16 ... 1536123909

I'll add on the next omnibus update. Don't think we need to make changes to the list off of every single announcement as there will likely be more in the coming days with the season over

which he didn’t have at Fairfield.

Not hard to figure out - for every rental 5th year on the field there is a kid who was recruited by the program riding the pine. Yes, it could have happened without the granting of the 5th year - but - no where near the numbers we are seeing now.

Or the kid plays man-up or man-down. Or plays a different role. Or maybe the kid wasn’t guaranteed playing time at all. Maybe an incoming freshmen takes their spot. No one is guaranteed a spot. Guess what? The “rental 5th year” was also “recruited by the program.” It’s all recruiting.

Perhaps they don’t play that year. Maybe they then play the next year and have success. Or maybe they choose to transfer and find a different program and have success.

One player being added to a program isn’t suddenly destroying these kids college experience. The concern trolling has always been ridiculous. Programs recruit players to make their team better, just as they’ve done for decades

There's probably not a lot of players who were projected to be starters and then went to barely playing at all due to transfers. One position that may have happened is goalie. Bonafede at Duke ended up playing behind Adler and then Helm.

There are certainly some guys who might have gotten decent playing time as 2nd line midfielders or 4th attackmen and ended up not really playing due to a 5th year senior coming in and taking a spot. Or attackmen that had to switch to midfield in order to get onto the field. I don't have any specific names, but I don't doubt that it happened. Might want to take a look at some of the guys at Georgetown.

Undoubtedly some 2020 and 2021 high school graduates have been left behind. Some really good players not seeing time or barely seeing time when they were likely projected starters by now when they were recruited.

Huh … 6ft 6in and 240 lbs. That’s not a college lacrosse attackman. That’s an NFL linebacker.

Yeah, and if you switched from attack to midfield you still played. Or if you played 2nd midfield you still played. It’s a different role but it’s playing. That’s part of the experience, the role changes depending on how the roster shakes out and what players come in and what the coach decides.

A guy like Bonafede at Duke wasn’t even starting consistently before Adler came in. More than likely he’d have been sharing the net with whomever they decided to bring in.

If you look at Georgetown’s roster from before they brought in all the transfers to now…most of the guys who were playing are still playing. And most of the recruits they’ve brought in found a spot. Their 2020 class was highlighted by: Hess, Haley, Tominovich, Leary, Llewelyn, Foley. First 4 of those have made major contributions. 3* Halpert was one of their best players in the tournament. Their 2021 class was a miss but also had 0 4*’s. 2022 was its first year and guys like Wray and Crogan played roles. The one guy who you could say lost to his spot to transfers was Peter Thompson…and he transferred to Michigan and had an amazing year for them

Point is: this stuff largely can work itself out.

And if either showed up tomorrow, I would love for them to try out for the Jays.

Hearing that Amherst's Brock Gonzalez, (St Thomas-Ft Lauderdale) is transferring to Duke

Xanders has Vermont's Jackson Canfield going to Maryland to reunite with Jake Bernhardt, who recruited him to Vermont. This guy is arguably the best LSM Florida (Bishop Moore) ever produced and will open eyes.

With no insult intended to anyone involved, I'm looking forward to this extra-Corona-year thing being over. I understand that top players have transferred from BU to UNC, SU to UMD, Bucknell to wherever for many years. But the transformation of Notre Dame, G'town, etc. due to transfers seems like a very different thing to me. Ready for it to be over...
On A lower level, more narrowly focused. The top 4 PL finishers this year all benefited significantly by keeping more of their covid 5th year players in key roles than did the other lower finishing PL teams. BU, Loyola & Lehigh all had 5th year starters. Army had key Jr contributors who entered in 2020, sat out a year, & "turned back" a year in the Corps of Cadets.

Kelly is a nice player familiar with him from his HS days in Cuse. That said he's about to take a massive step up in competition, interesting to see how he plays against the B10, Army, Loyola etc.
