Re: Maryland 2023
It looks as if,
now that 5th years and transfers have mostly matriculated,
the plan is to play that deep bench of recruited players,
a real good development.

rFor whatever you can take from a scrimmage that doesn't use D1 college rules, some encouraging stuff to be taken from the two games today I thought.
The defense may not be as good as the offense was last year, but it's going to be close and it's going to be the best unit in the country again. Zapitello looked like he's going to be playing for Team USA very soon, Makar is Makar, the shorties were all pretty impressive and that was the word from the Cornell scrimmage too. It's going to be incredibly hard to score on them this year. The offense is going to be behind where the defense is at but there were a lot of moments where it looked like what the offense has been the last few years in terms of spacing and ball movement. I like Murphy and Spanos on attack together. Think they can cause problems. Gonna be a lot of competition for the 2nd MF but looks like there's some talent there that could mean it's above where the 2nd MF was after the last title win in 18 and 19.
You really got an idea for how ludicrous a level Ierlan set for so many years in college and now in the pros, just ran through poor Wierman.
Malever injury aside, seems like it's been a successful fall for the team. Only 3.5 months till real games start.

Thanks for the readout. So Spanos played then? Sounds like the ankle must not have been too serious.
Who played DMid for the Terps?

Re: Maryland 2023
Kelly looked like a breakout star. That's about all as far as superlatives go for the offense. They will be fine, but nowhere near the Rambo-Bernhardt-Wisnauskus golden era.
Zap looked like the best player on all 3 teams. Lacey looked real good at shorty, and Wicks and Coffman played a lot as well. Redd also impressed in the 2nd game.

Wicks and Holmes looked good at shorty. There's good size and athleticism there. I don't think it'll be the '22 group but it will be more than enough with how good the poles will be and the possession advantage they'll have
The offense is going to be behind where they've been the last 2-3 years but I don't think it'll be a massive drop-off. The floor is still a Top 10 offense I think. Obviously they struggled today a good bit but they're going to against those guys. There were flashes to think it'll be a strong unit. Malever's loss hurts but with a Top 6 of Spanos-Murphy-Kelly; Long-Brennan-Koras you have dodging and shooting options there. The question will be passers outside of Long but the willingness to share the ball is still there

Lacey and Coffman look to be the first up ssdm. Coffman only played the first half. Think he still building up his strengthMoralTerpitude wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 5:44 pm Thanks for the readout. So Spanos played then? Sounds like the ankle must not have been too serious.
