Surgical masks like that do not "prevent" infection, they make it _less_ likely. A good N95/KN95 etc mask can do a better job of lessening the chance of acquiring COVID, just like it can lessen the chance better of passing on say the flu.

It was not an accident that flu rates during the winter of 2020-2021 fell precipitously - that was due to a combination of social distancing and masks.

I mean, why wear masks at all?!? If you’re going to contract the virus no matter how many jabs you’re willing to take while proudly signaling your hallowed masks, no matter what defenses you put up, doesn’t it make more sense to live as normally as possible rather than hyperventilating about how you consider yourself a living legend for being so ‘considerate’ to others because you wear the ‘MAGA-hat’ signal mask? For all we know, mask wearers are the ones prolonging this virus by denying humanity the option of achieving herd immunity.
