Falling for Hamas tactics
GAZA HOSPITAL REDUCES NUMBER OF WOMEN, CHILDREN IT SAYS KILLED
‘Falling for Hamas tactics’: IDF names 9 terrorists killed in school strike, slams media
After attack on UNRWA facility that reportedly killed 33 and sparked global anger, army spokesman says its intel showed no women or children in the targeted rooms
By EMANUEL FABIAN, TOI STAFF and AGENCIES 6.7.2024
The IDF on Thursday blasted international media organizations for again taking the claims of Hamas authorities at face value and reporting that Israel carried out a deadly airstrike on an UNRWA school without noting that the central Gaza compound was being used by terrorists.
“Sadly, we saw some media outlets fall for Hamas’s tactics yet again before checking the facts,” IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said during a press conference in which he revealed the identities of nine terror operatives killed in the attack.
Those targeted were members of Hamas’s elite Nukhba force and of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group who “directed terror attacks from the area of the school while exploiting it as a civilian location and as a shelter.”
“The terrorists inside this school were planning more attacks against Israelis, some of them imminent. We stopped a ticking time bomb,” Hagari claimed.
Hagari said there were around 30 terrorists in the three rooms that were targeted. He said some of those killed had participated in the Hamas-led October 7 terror onslaught during which some 1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 were taken hostage. Hagari said the IDF was working to verify this information further before making it public.
Many international reports on the Wednesday night strike relied on Hamas authorities’ claim that 33 Palestinians were killed and made little or no mention of any alleged connection to terror activity.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital initially reported that nine women and 14 children were among those killed in the strike on the school that had been operating as a shelter due to the war’s mass displacement of Palestinians.
The hospital morgue on Thursday evening amended those records to show that the dead were three women, nine children and 21 men. An Associated Press reporter had counted the bodies but was unable to look beneath the shrouds.
Hagari said the strike targeted the Hamas and PIJ operatives gathered in three classrooms at the UN school and noted this was the fifth time this past month alone that the IDF struck terrorists operating from facilities belonging to the UNRWA agency for Palestinian refugees.
“Hamas wages war from schools and hospitals. Hamas hopes that international law and public sympathy will provide a shield for its military activities, which is why it systematically operates from schools, UN facilities, hospitals and mosques,” Hagari continued, stressing that this is a war crime that should be condemned by the international community.
The IDF spokesperson noted that the IDF delayed the strike twice after identifying civilians in the area, which it had been monitoring for several days.
“We conducted the strike once our intelligence and surveillance indicated that there were no women or children inside those classrooms,” he asserted.
He did not deny that civilians were still killed in the strike.
Ostensibly relying on the same reports from Hamas authorities, governments and international organizations issued a flood of condemnations against Israel on Thursday.
Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA, said that Israel bombed the school “without prior warning.”
“Another UNRWA school turned shelter attacked,” he wrote on X. “Attacking, targeting or using UN buildings for military purposes is a blatant disregard of International Humanitarian law.”
Stephan Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said the strike “is just another horrific example of the price that civilians are paying, that Palestinian men, women and children who are just trying to survive (are paying).
“Of course [Guterres] condemns this attack. There will need to be accountability for everything that has happened in Gaza.”
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell called for a probe into the strike, writing on X, “Reports coming from Gaza time and again show that violence and suffering are still the only reality for hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. This appalling news must be independently investigated.”
Meanwhile, the US called on Israel to be “transparent” regarding the strike, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters.
Miller said the United States believed Israeli assessments that Hamas has at times hidden in civilian infrastructure, but said it was waiting for information on the latest strike.
The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 36,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far. Of these, some 24,000 fatalities have been identified at hospitals or through self-reporting by families, with the rest of the figure based on Hamas “media sources.” The tolls, which cannot be verified, include some 15,000 terror operatives Israel says it has killed in battle. Israel also says it killed some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.

So are there any opinions from the usual suspects on this forum as to what Israel should do? Hamas has made it perfectly clear what their objective is. Do any of you think that Hamas gives a f**k how many Palestinians have to die to achieve their objective? Hamas is begging for a cease fire. That could be because Israel is kicking the living chit out of them. Hamas chose to declare war on Israel, Hamas then chose whatever the results would be. The f***ing Hamas cowards who hide in hospitals and schools to protect their sorry mother effing asses. Hamas is smart enough to understand their message resonates profoundly with many of the usual suspects on this forum. What has been proven to me is you can have a PhD and a distinguished career in education and still be as dumb as a box of freaking rocks.
Tough Question of the day...who benefits from a cease fire in Gaza?? The first correct answer his Hamas. The second, third and forth correct answers are also Hamas. If this was a boxing match Hamas would be bloody and bleeding in the corner waiting to be saved by the bell.

Re: Falling for Hamas tactics
In my time spent in service to my country we were trained to protect civilians and keep them out of any conflicts as was feasibly possible. The Hamas philosophy is to use innocent civilians as human shields. There should be unquestioned deference to combatants protecting the lives of innocent civilians. I ask all of you on this forum, why doesn't Hamas play by these rules? My second question is why doesn't the insensitivity of Hamas disregard towards innocent non combatants even pop up on your radar? In my time as a soldier in the US Army I would have NEVER put an innocent civilian at risk if my unit could have avoided it. The US Army didn't train it's front line infantry to use innocent civilians as human shields. Too bad Hamas doesn't play by those same set of rules. I guess that proves that war is hell and mans inhumanity to man trumps all sense of decency and humanity. Maybe at sometime in the future we will figure out how to fight war in a more humane and compassionate nature .OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 8:43 amWell said, C&S.

This quote in the above article is so right on:
“Hamas wages war from schools and hospitals. Hamas hopes that international law and public sympathy will provide a shield for its military activities, which is why it systematically operates from schools, UN facilities, hospitals and mosques,” Hagari continued, stressing that this is a war crime that should be condemned by the international community.
I don't know the relevance here but it is one of those horrific memories my dad shared with me. After the 3rd Army break out at St. Lo my dads unit had to pass through what was left of St Lo. My dad said there was not a building still standing in St Lo that hadn't been blown all to hell. There was not a road they traveled where dead bodies of Americans, Germans and civilians were not scattered everywhere. It didn't matter, St Lo was the key to breaking out into France. When I say war is hell that includes the innocent people who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Those people who lived in St Lo never had any idea that their quant quiet town would become a battlefield. War is hell and innocent people get caught in the middle. That has not changed in thousands of years.

They, to be kind, think differently. They have a different perspective with relation to death, to "others" (as in, other people), to enemies, to war, and empathy, compassion isn't even near their radar. Reminds me enormously of a doc I just watched on Netflix (below).
For me, it most certainbly does. For some others, I think they have blind spots. I think the reality of the who, what, and why of Hamas is far too embarrassing for some to look at. More accurately, recognizing the who, what, and why after being so openly and adamantly blind to the reality of Hamas. To answer your question in word, I think the answer is arrogance.cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 9:11 am My second question is why doesn't the insensitivity of Hamas disregard towards innocent non combatants even pop up on your radar?
There's no question, war is awful. I watched the documentary on Netflix "Hitler and the Nazis" and, for many reasons, it was very good. The Germans were committed to destruction. (I find Hamas little different.) Not just to the Jews but also to the Russians and the Brits. When the Germans started bombing mainland, civilian England, England returned the favor to Germany and, for all intents and purposes, no one batted an eyelash. There were no Nazis hiding in Dresden or otherwise. Just civilians. But the world recognized that this is war. The Brits bombing Dresden, bombing Germany proper may've seemed superfluous at the time but, in hindsight, we can see that this was an important step in defeating Germany. And there were no Nazis hiding within the Dresden museums firing rockets into England. War is awful. Death and maiming of innocents is awful. Undeniably. And... Thankfully Germany was defeated. Cradle, your father was part of something very good, very important.
So others don't have to look it up like I did..."Saint-Lô is a commune in northwest France, the capital of the Manche department in the region of Normandy."

countryside during Georgie Pattons race across France made him a part of the finest fighting unit the US Army has ever seen. Before he ever found himself attacking the German lines south of Bastogne he spent 2 months attacking Ft Driant and the fortress at Metz. You wanna talk about unknown battles of WW2 . Metz was the only battle that arguably Patton lost. Anybody that knows and understands what a hell hole Ft Driant was to defeat understands why Patton called off the assault and chose to lay siege. My dads unit was finally called off the front lines on December 16 for well deserved R and R. The very same day the Germans broke through in the Ardennes. R and R was delayed for 2 more months of front line combat. That was when my dad had his back tore up from German 88 shrapnel. The Germans would use proximity fuses that caused the rounds to explode when they hit the tree tops. The hell that rained down on the infantry was indescribable. I watched Band of Brothers with my dad. He watched in silence in when they were shelled outside of Foy. How many of you boys have ever been so terrified in your life that you would defacate in your foxhole before you would walk above ground. War is hell and when will we ever learn? My dad would have been one hundred years old this August first. I love him and miss him every day. I was the snot nosed child that followed him around in his workshop learning how to drive a nail and read a tape measure. For all of my defects of character I'm grateful to have had a dad who had the patience to teach me how to drive a nail and differentiate a 1/4 inch from 3/8 of an inch. My dad never told me that he loved me but I always knew that he did. My most prized tool is my dads hammer that he showed me how to drive a nail without hitting my thumb. I'm glad that my dad and so many others of his generation gave so much and sacrificed so much.
