This sounds......iffy. It is clear that the process of Fusion/GPS retaining Steele were put into motion well before Trump emerged as a viable, let alone likely, GOP candidate.

The source of OPPO research is murky, sure, but should we believe that Steele had his dossier all done and looking for a buyer before Trump was the presumed GOP candidate?

Why would HRC commission OPPO research on DJT before he emerged as a force in the general? I mean.....why?

Fusion owner Glenn Simpson hired Steele, a Russia expert, to gather information from his sources in Russia.

During the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, the leaders of the conservative news outlet Washington Free Beacon hired a private intelligence company, Fusion GPS, to conduct research into the candidates, including Trump. Early in the year, the Free Beacon's interest in the work lapsed.

So by "early March," Fusion GPS approached the law firm Perkins Coie, which represents the Democratic National Committee, offering to continue its investigations into Trump. In April, the law firm agreed, and it began to underwrite the investigation.

Why is this important? After Fusion GPS was initially hired by conservatives, Democrats paid for the phase of the work that included the compilation of the dossier.

The investigation into Trump Russia was not initiated because of the dossier. It was begun because on intel from Australian intelligence sources. The dossier was given to McCain not the democrats who turned it over the FBI.
