Big win and shutout tonight for Philly and Carter Hart. That save Hart made on the burner from Taylor Hall was something special. Philly is going to have a big year. Not feeling too good about my Islanders this year. Could be a long season. Thank goodness for my fantasy team!

Winles in six and sporting a minus 16 goal differential means trouble in the Garden State...

Great OT comeback by the Isles. Just when it seemed they were goners, they made a comeback and won it within one minute into OT.

I'd like to see a lot more checking by the defenders in order to force the puck into the opponent's zone. All throughout the game they were listless. But somehow they were within striking distance and then, POW!

Went to Minneapolis to watch ACHA hockey as the Gophers topped St Cloud State 10-5 at Mariucci arena (now called the 3M Arena at Mariucci).

Lots of raw talent on both squads. Unlike varsity puck in NCAA, the ACHA features club level players who can shoot a puck but who don't quite know how to check, play defense, and play or defend power play opportunities. Still, there were a few players capable of playing D3 puck and it was fun to watch.

Took a walk around the gallery and saw many team pics of past championship teams including the 1952 team with Ken Yackel (my neighborhood hockey arena is named for him) who was sitting next to John Mayasich - greatest college puckster of all time. It's great to have fun that is for free. :D

What a difference a few weeks make! Flyers suck again and they need a goalie... Isles are on fire!

Mark Pavelich (Eveleth, MN) ruled incompetent to stand trial for assault:

https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-ne ... sault-case

The former hockey star's sister told the Star Tribune that they're convinced Pavelich is suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, more commonly known as CTE, the neurodegenerative brain disease caused by repeated head injuries.

Jean Gevik said this was the result of “all the concussions and the blows he had” in the National Hockey League. CTE is has been linked with erratic behavior and deaths among hockey and football players and others in sports that inflict trauma to the head.

Pavelich has always been viewed as a great hero in these parts and this news has gotten much attention here.

As he should be. While he, Kenny Morrow, Neal Broten, Dave Christian, and Mike Ramsey had successful NHL careers, not everyone on the team prospered after the games. Several players had to auction off their uniforms or other team paraphernalia in order to get enough money to send their kids to college. Pavelich has been reported to be "reclusive" in recent years which suggests that he may have been suffering CTE symptoms all this time. His wife's accident death may well have aggravated his condition.

Loud mouth Don Cherry booted from the TV booth for making hostile, xenophobic comments:

https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/ ... py-comment

I've always considered myself a fan of this flamboyant Machiavellian, admired his lace curtain jackets, and genuinely did not mind his forceful jabberwocky every week on Hockey Night In Canada. But he definitely crossed the line with this angry, bigoted rhetoric. Let's face it, he was on the verge of going berserk on TV and, as we all know, preventive medicine is best. Smart of those TV folks to be rid of him before he got the networks and others into trouble.

Funny how some righties on other websites/forums are mad about Cherry getting canned but they applauded the NFL's boycott of Colin Kaepernick. Come to think of it, I wonder how Bobby feels about Colin.

Most likely 'Bobby' probably doesn't give two pucks about Colin K. Why would he care about American football and the Kaepernick drama?

Unless you're a mind reader, you likely wouldn't know what Bobby thinks. Just like most Yanks don't know or even care who Cherry is.

As for Kaep, you may recall how the entire Dallas team took a knee along with the team owner to show solidarity with him and his right to express his view. So far, we haven't seen any such demonstration on behalf of Cherry. But perhaps in due time we may ...

Leafs blew it again - they should've hired Cherry to coach!

Dunno if you are old enough to remember when he coached in the 60s to the 70s. He invented the third man in and gang up style that was later perfected by Fred Shero and the Broad Street Bullies. The league changed the rules thanks to him.

Nowadays with all the rule changes which reduce violence, that style has gone the way of the Romans.

Matt Calvert injury & controversy,

While the refs seemed to have followed the rule book on NOT stopping play for the injured Calvert, they totally screwed the Avs for the 'holding the stick' infraction at the beginning of the clip and even more so for the blatant and obvious cross-check applied by the very same Canuck player in front of the net shortly thereafter. Both should've brought play to a stop. Garbage NHL officiating at it's finest.
