Don't be surprised to see three poles up there if whoever gets the reps doesn't get off to a hot start.
It would be something to see 3 poles on the FO. If the BR scrapes out a win or 2 against that formation it could lead to some good early offence with shorties on Piatelli and Long!
They have shown that look in the scrimmages and the MO with face offs has been to start with either Jones or Altamari and if they are not getting the ball it is to one of the LSM's. Marr does not seem to stick with the FOGO's and is quick to give them the hook.

After last years disappointment, where we got hosed on an NCAA selection (come on, we beat ND on the Road), I think that this years team has an incredible shot in Jeffs final season (prediction: Teat scores over 100 points this year). Long wont replace Petterson, but paired with Piatelli, and Teat, this once again will be one of the best attacks in the country.

Midfield? Are you kidding? 2 MONSTER lines with Fletcher poised to have a great final year and Lombardi will have a breakout soph season.

On the X, we go at least 3 deep and with a healthy Ras, and the best incoming faceoff guy in the country in Petrakis, we will be nowhere near the ridiculous disadvantage from last year, and in fact , the X could be atrong point this year.

Close D has to be much better with all the young guys having a year under their belts, and Salvatore may be the best LSM in the country.

Our Goalie as a FRESHMEN was incredible last year, and now with CHASE basically settled into being what I believe will be one of the best tenders in the country this year.

Look, if we hold our own on the X, and reduce our goals against by 1.5-2 goals over last year, then this team could contend for a title.

The IVY LEAGUE is loaded, our schedule is LOADED and you know what I say to that, BRING IT ON. If we think we are great (and I do), then lets go out and prove it.

It all starts tomorrow, and I cant wait.

Welcome back Joe Willie! Great analysis. In hindsight, Cornell missing out on the tournament is a particularly bitter pill. I imagine that the "chip on the shoulder" factor will be a motivator this year.

It's interesting, that two ad hoc Instagram polls pick Albany as a narrow favorite. 80 pct of IL subscribers pick the Big Red.

Thanks again for the season preview.

Go Red!!!

I think is the Ivy is loaded this year (although I'm not happy about our conference tourney played at bloody Hofstra). From a die-hard Yale fan, go Cornell, beat Albany!!

Big Red looking pretty good so far, up 3-1 at the end of the 1st. Petrakis looks like the real deal at FOGO, that may be a strength this year. Offense has to change levels more on shots.

How do u waist 50 seconds of a 1 minute man up just to start the 2nd half with the ball?

Because there was a low upside and high downside to trying to score just before the half. The hold strategy makes sure that you go into the locker room feeling good in the first game of the season.

Middies are getting it done. Ierlan some nice saves. FO unit is 10 of 12 at half time. Pretty good for 1st game. Go Big Red.

I’d agree if there were 10 or 20 seconds to go, but 50? You only get so many man up opportunities Also shows a lack of confidence in your FO crew, who has been fantastic so far.

Went out for a run right after Albany scored on that nice strip/shot by the defenseman to make it 4-2 early in the 2nd. Get back to my car and it's 8-3 early in the 3rd. Drive home, walk in the door, and it's 13-3...

This is about as good an opening game - against a decent team, no less- as I could have wanted.

19-10 Cornell. A complete game, best season-opening game I've seen from the Red in a long time ...

Very positive opening game! Nice offense especially third quarter. Adler and Irelan, really nice work on the defensive end. Donville and Coyle nice performance on offensive end. Teat quietly adding several assists! Some good learning opportunities for Long and Petrakis. Coming games for UAlbany will help us figure out more on how we played.

Not sure what to make of 4th quarter, defense left doorstep open for frequent opportunities and Albany seemed to make good adjustments on FO that we didn’t answer. (Recognize the game was already in control but these are in game learning opportunities that coaches should capilize on for remainder of the season).

Holding the ball for 50 seconds of the end of half didn’t make sense to me especially considering stats on FO and our high powered offense.

Overall very nice 2020 opener.

You can ignore the 4th quarter of a blowout win. The game was over. It’s hard to keep that mental edge up by 10-11 goals.

The offense had a very different look in this game as compared to the previous two seasons. It was middie dominated with fewer assisted goals and not as many goals scored from the crease. The team was far less dependent on Teat, is more athletic, and more balanced.

What a pleasure to not wring hands over face offs. Raz and Petrakis looked very good.

It helps to open the season against another team playing its first game, but I didn’t expect the blowout. I’ll take it though. Too bad Towson, OSU, and Penn lost today.

I’m with you. It’s one thing if we were getting dominated on faceoffs, but the opposite was true; seems silly to waste almost 50 seconds of a man-up

Faceoffs were great today. Not just Petrakis and Raz. Graham won most of the ones he took, including the first 3 of the game. UAlbany rarely used the guy that dominated us last year for some reason. Petrakis had a goal off one of his faceoff breakaways, frosh Long played well, and sophs Coyle and Lombardi looked excellent. We'll see over the next four games, but I think UAlbany was a respectable team and we dominated them. I think we'll go 2-2 over the next 4 tough games. Maybe better.

Towson and Highpoint look like winnable games. OSU will be a tough one. PSU will be a major test for the team.

Not to look ahead too far, but OSU/Cornell could have a bubble-in/bubble-out implication for both teams.

WOW, what a start, and not to boast (you guys know thats not my style), but if you read my analysis from yesterday, almost all the points I made played out today like:

1. I said if we could just hold our own on the X, we would be in great shape with this offense, and not only did they jold their own, they DOMINATED, and the great thing is that we dont have to wear down Raz, this year like last year, as Petrakis and Graham are capable if not outstanding. What a start for PETRAKIS, and we have him for 4 YEARS, scary.
2. Reduce our allowed goals by 1,5-2 goals. Defense was outstanding all day and our GROUNDBALLS were awesome as we won nearly all 50/50, and as I stated, Salvatore may be the best LSM in the country and can play close D also.
3.Chase is just so solid in goal and never gets rattled.
4.I said we have 2 MONSTER middie lines and wow, do we ever. I said break out time for Lombardi and 3 goals proves he will be a force with Donville, Telesco, and of course Fletcher.
5. Even though he went scoreless, Long fit in well with Teat (as usual, passes that are mind boggling), and Piatelli, and will obviously get in the scoring column, with Teat feeding you the ball.

To have a start like this on the ROAD, against a quality opponent is I think more than even many of us expected, but as I said, I think this team can be scary good if not great and we will make alot of noise this year.

Heres my top ten tomorrow:
1.Virginia
2. Penn State
3. Yale
4.Maryland
5. Syracuse
6. Notre Dame
7. North Carolina
8. Cornell
9.Duke
10.Penn
