US Army Creates Single Vaccine Effective Against All COVID, SARS Variants
Within weeks, Walter Reed researchers expect to announce that human trials show success against Omicron—and even future strains.
All well and good I suppose. Let's hope it works as advertised and is safe of course.

The anti-vax issue doesn't go away and probably won't. Unless mandates are enforced, we're not going to see any new takers, just my opinion.

I keep harping on it but that is why we need therapeutics access for everyone no matter how many vaccines are developed. That will be the game changer.
We ain’t working on therapeutics?
it's a legitimate question to ask (begs the question?) about how ready we are to push for wide access. monoclonals... i'm not sure what kind of investment has been made by .gov in this country of $4-6 trillion budgets, maybe someone can answer... monoclonals are still in limited supply, ya?

not approved yet, but paxlovid:

less than a week ago, the wh declined to answer what kind of support they'd give to increasing supply, even a nod to it. i suspect if it sails thru eua, we'll get some kind of push, maybe a major one, and hurrahs all around for spending our money wisely. especially now that vaxx uptake has stalled.

apparently the monoclonals that worked with delta don't work with omicron; new formula is in production, but supplies are short...delta continues to be causing most deaths, but that could change as omicron progresses.

In have not heard any government official, anyone from the “medical establishment or anyone on the planet earth that has said “we don’t need to consider therapeutics. I have posted links of many companies working on it but for some reason it’s been ignored….In other news:

Vaccines and staying away from people are the pathways out.

Exactly. Now lack of a therapeutic supply is the government’s fault because people won’t get vaccinated….whatever happened to “personal responsibility”?

do they need to say it? if they don't actually do anything, or more accurately don't max what they can or should, doesn't that say more?

vaccines are stalled and staying away from people is not sustainable. unless case fatality spikes. imo.

We have to try harder coach! Staying away from people coupled with other mitigation efforts is better than “go about your life as if nothing is wrong”….. put the unvaccinated at the bottom for societal privileges. Like a caste system. It’s been done before.

Leroy and Billy are waiting for therapeutics to be developed that’s why they aren’t getting vaccinated. They are following the research.

What would you suggest that wasn't addressed yesterday in Biden's speech?

Seems to me that you've been right that there are no 'easy' answers, there's downsides for most everything.

We're going to see the employer mandates push more vaccinations, and certainly there's been a rise in boosters...would other measures help on that front?

I agree that we're not going to keep everyone away from each other, and indeed the unvaxxed are the least likely to behave responsibly in that regard, so there's going to a whole lot of infection amongst that crowd. Remains to be seen whether that'll result in a proportionate rise in deaths, but maybe not...

Therapeutics may well address some of this, keep more out of the hospital, but it's going to take a bit before we see that at scale.

what else do we think .gov should be doing?

I've suggested draconian measures that I don't think will get considered seriously, but other than those, not sure what more we can do other than hope numbskulls wake up.

In have not heard any government official, anyone from the “medical establishment or anyone on the planet earth that has said “we don’t need to consider therapeutics. I have posted links of many companies working on it but for some reason it’s been ignored….In other news:

Vaccines and staying away from people are the pathways out.
do they need to say it? if they don't actually do anything, or more accurately don't max what they can or should, doesn't that say more?

vaccines are stalled and staying away from people is not sustainable. unless case fatality spikes. imo.

Therapeutics may well address some of this, keep more out of the hospital, but it's going to take a bit before we see that at scale. ... and there is the rub -- the conspiracy for lunch bunch are already claiming it is a government conspiracy holding back approval, production, distribution, whatever ...

what else do we think .gov should be doing?

I've suggested draconian measures that I don't think will get considered seriously, but other than those, not sure what more we can do other than hope numbskulls wake up.

Hard to decide if its good or bad news but, perhaps, just more news that we need to think about
thanks. what's the next variant going to bring? i didn't look it up, but my son told me omicron most closely resembled an original strain(s). like it's been hiding out somewhere, mutating. the walter reed news is encouraging.

... the numbskulls aren't going to wake up. I say give them what they want, "new improved cyanide flavored" ivermectin. Hire Fox News to market it -- although its not clear hiring them would actually be necessary.

The belief is that it’s been cooking in South Africa because of the high percentage of HIV patients in that country. Glad Trump isn’t around to come up with a cute nickname for the variant. My wife mentioned it to me when the news started breaking on Omicron.
