As a matter of fact, smart*ss, there is. Remember? In fact, there's were countless rules on pronouns and ways to address people that YOU had to learn.
How big of a deal was it to address folks you served with correctly? Call a superior "sir" or "ma'am"? All the little rules civilians don't know...junior members salute first, and hundred of other tiny details you had to learn.
You got that just fine. Honorable discharge, right? So you managed to navigate those far more complicated social rules with no trouble.
But addressing someone in civilian life what THEY want to be addressed is somehow too complicated for you, and you just can't manage the energy to treat your fellow humans with just the barest of respect?
