The report on Madronic is that he entered the portal as a 2023 grad student, so finish out Harvard and then look to play an additional year. Probably gauging interest so that he can form a plan and structure the rest of his undergrad to align with what he wants to do for grad school. Shocking that a Harvard guy would have a smart idea like that.

Blackdoglax wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 7:06 pm One of the realities of the transfer portal is some of these players will not necessarily find takers of their services. Think about it if you are a Head Coach and you have a full class of freshmen coming in and unless you are a real difference maker like Michael Sowers for example, some players are not worth the risk to the locker room.....
A clear upgrade to a new team is a prerequisite. Many will not be and there may be cuts when they are. Thread 'how many schools will drop lacrosse" is telling of financial environment. Many programs will keep roster numbers tight and be picky with adding. What happens then to those in portal that do not embrace a lower levels to find takers ? Coaches have no obligation to take them back nor should they.

From a coach's POV, just ignore. A coach doesn't even know what '21 will look like, much less what position needs will be in '23.

Has everyone forgotten that most of the top-caliber D1 and D3 players know each other? They all talk and the basic storyline is that there was a party and a black woman at the party heard a player use the n-word and took exception. The black player popped the guy that said it and then it took off from that. Just as troubling is the very well-established narrative of antisemitism on the team. I mean, it would make you sick (unless you are a fan of the Third Reich). So, let's stop blowing it off. If you have nothing to do with it, then you will be fine. If you are dumb enough to send racist group texts or post questionable social media then you should be concerned that a large part of the lacrosse community will know this fact and you will be judged accordingly. I certainly wouldn't hire someone who is comfortable with airing those types of opinions publicly.

Dan Arestia twitter. @prolacrossetalk
Matt Gaudet of @YaleLacrosse tells me he will not take an extra year of college lacrosse and will enter the pro indoor and outdoor drafts.

Gaudet holds Yale's rookie record for goals (32 as a first year), scored 41 as a soph, 51 as a Jr, and had 18 in just four games this year.

Does anyone know (or care) what the numbers in the transfer portal compares to prior years? Also number or per cent freshmen vs soph vs jr vs senior. Underclassmen who may have surprised some by their prowess may be looking for an upgrade whereas some at top schools may feel buried on a depth chart and looking for a chance to play. Many different reasons to enter portal and I find it very interesting in almost all cases

I'll pick up the ball for comeonman. Matt Brandau broke Gaudet's Yale rookie record by scoring 50 goals 2019 season.

Unfortunately, the likely answer to your question is in your signature. Stewardship of the game certainly means different things to different folks ...

Yep. The 2021 and 2022 classes will see some disruption.....

I think it will be interesting to see how many teams take on a one-year rental player (seniors). Obviously, every team would make room for guys like Michael Sowers or Jackson Morrill. Maybe even take a flyer for Bucknell's Will Yorke for a year?

But what is the market for players like Davis Diamond (Albany) or Grayson Burns (Bucknell)? And I am not singling them out. There are a bunch of very good, but not great players looking to extend their lacrosse careers for one more year on another team. Who is going to potentially disrupt their team chemistry for guys that will give you 10-12 goals a year and a handful of assists? Are these teams better off cultivating some incoming freshman? I have no idea. Looking for opinions.

The really interesting transfers to me are the younger guys like Mac Costin (Utah) or Dylan Pallonetti (Maryland) who can join your team for potentially 4 more years. Guys that can seamlessly fold into the team culture and not have a "player for short-term lease" moniker hanging over their heads.

Very interested to hear your opinions on the guys on this list.

Not every player in the portal will land. These next two years will see a fairly high number. By that I mean between 10-20 impact players. Much more than we have seen with recent transfer history. My guess is that the last couple guys in a class will be displaced at some schools.

The 2021 season may be difficult from a money standpoint but the 2022 season will be twice as hard as schools try to fit 5 classes into 12.6 scholarships. For some like UMD which has a great Jr class will now will have critical decisions to make on how many of those guys will return for their 5th year if they choose to do so. And it trickles down to all the other classes including HS players trying to decide where options exist. It’s going to be a never ending topic.
