My money is ACC, or SBU to play with his Dad.

Guessing (for pure speculation) in order for me would be:

1. UVA
2. UNC
3. Syracuse
4-5 split between SBU and Maryland

While i would LOVE to see him in green and grey - i frankly dont see Loyola outrecruiting these other schools

Edit: I'm also very very surprised that Hopkins did not make his final cut
I'd be surprised if Spallina picked same school as Sunderland, UNC and Cuse would feel more likely, less competition for that alpha attackman spot

With Joey Epstein eligible to hang around for another three seasons, I doubt Hopkins was ever high on his list. Still, it would have been a great pairing.

As much as I'd like to think that's the reason, I highly doubt that was a major factor. It'd be at most one season together and it's not like these other programs he's considering will have vacant attack rooms. We also have no idea what his academic situation/ambitions are.

The Jays are well stocked (with "5 star" players) at attack for the next four years. It'd obviously be nice to get one of these top '22 attack recruits, but it's not necessary.

It's worth repeating that we had a top 5 ranked recruiting class for basically every year for a decade, and that resulted in one Final Four appearance and several first-round blowouts. Maybe let's let the new staff do their thing for a few years before we start getting jittery.

"Most importantly, three slots ahead of Duke (#12). At least we’re beating Duke at something. :P ;)

Can only help with recruiting.

Hopkins also among the top schools for diversity and international students. Also good for recruiting.

https://hub.jhu.edu/2020/09/14/us-news- ... s-hopkins/"

Duke w/out Coach K is Vanderbilt or Wake Forest

The only diversity lacrosse recruits care about is if the blondes and brunettes they see on their visits are 10s or 9.5s.

That’s part of the new diversity. Young women make up more than 50% of the undergraduates these days.

The diversity argument is pure BS.

I want to play ball because of ...

Asians?

Yeah, right. Said no one, ever.

Ever heard of yellow fever? I know a guy who’s got it. Watched Fast Money on CNBC solely because of a host named Melissa Lee.

That’s why college coaches don’t put to much stock in the 5 star ranking at Inside Lacrosse

This attitude is an unfortunate result of your upbringing in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I forgive you.

the IL website says Princeton only has 25 mens team members for next spring potentially. That's like the number of syracuse attackmen and number of academic learning specialists at college park to help their leisure studies majors with their academics.

Are we also assuming that if Hopkins lacrosse is allowed to happen there will be no fans and no band in the stands, will the kids have to travel w/extra vehicles to games for more space?

I would suggest the old staff did. I would also suggest the new staff does not.

I don't think you can field a competitive lacrosse team with 20-25 players on the roster. That's how many guys usually get into a game. That essentially means there are no bench players/backups. One or two injuries and you literally may not be able to fill a position. IF there is a season, and if Princeton players remain on leave for the year, I don't see how they play at all in 2021. Seems more like those guys are betting there won't be a season and trying to get ahead of the curve. I've heard players from a few other Ivy League schools are considering doing something similar. It's clear that if there's a season in the spring, it'll need to have an asterisk attached to it.

walkons.

I'm obviously not on the insider email chains and phone calls, but I'm sure the spring conversations are probably already underway. Campus would first have to be reopened I guess, then you get athletic competition approval, then you see if rival schools are a go and logistics.

So Spallina to Syracuse. Not particularly surprising and seems like a good fit culturally. Apparently he gets #22, which seems odd to me given that they gave it to Scanlan last year as an inducement to get him to come - hey, sorry, Chase, but we found someone more important than you and you're already here, so you have to find a new number for your last couple of years, ok?

Scanlan is not expected to use the extra year from Corona. So while he will techinically be a R-Soph this coming season he will likely have graduated when Spallina gets on campus.

LOL I hear ya trust me, I struggle with the same thing as a Cuse fan. 22 is a great recruiting tool but obviously you can't be throwing it around every year.

US Lax Mag has the Jays at 15 in their way ahead of preseason rankings. Here's their blurb, none of which is unfair.

Maybe a new voice will immediately revitalize Hopkins, which found itself overwhelmed against high-end competition before the season was halted. The Blue Jays’ first new coach in two decades is Peter Milliman, who did fine work at Cornell but is tasked with energizing a team that frankly was subpar at just about everything other than faceoffs (17th nationally) and man-up offense (33rd) in 2020. Milliman inherits an excellent offensive centerpiece in Joey Epstein, who dealt with injuries last year after a brilliant freshman season. There are a lot of places Hopkins needs to get better, but the defensive end again was a glaring issue. Little wonder Milliman’s early moves on the transfer wire addressed that end of the field. The addition of long pole Jared Fernandez (Syracuse) and goalie Josh Kirson (Ohio State) figure to make the Blue Jays more competitive, but it’s probably premature to expect an instant return to contending for Memorial Day weekend trips.
