\I understand why his lawyer and fellow cops are trotting out the usual “he feared for his life” excuse, but the video clearly shows that isn’t the case. He seems to be running after Brooks as fast as he can and is within 10 or 15 feet of him. If he truly was fearful, no way he would have run after him that quickly. He would have approached him much more cautiously, using vehicles, trees, etc. as cover. He knew Brooks had a functioning taser, but didn’t seem to be concerned about it as he was running pell-mell toward him.

I think what happened is that he was ticked off that Brooks had been able to escape from two cops. Brooks had gotten the better of them, and Rolfe didn’t like that. Macho adrenaline took over. He then used extremely poor judgment and unjustifiably and illegally shot Brooks in the back while at the same time endangering bystanders.

since we're doing speculation- this is my guess too.

and i'll add to the discussion about adrenaline- even if the officer was excitable at the time, then maybe the larger issue here is what we consider an appropriate level of "heat of the moment" that one can make a decision with any kind of dispensation, before cooling off.

i think we all know being a LE officer is hard. the issue i think is how much to discount it.

A good idea in there, except disarming police. But can we do more then one thing at a time? How about we educate black youth, especially women, on what the future possibly holds for them and their children as single mom's? How about we stop subsidizing destructive behavior. For a party that claims Republicans are the "anti science" party Dems sure seem to promote behavior that statistics show is counterproductive to the people they claim to champion.

If you want to cast stones at groups, start with the various churches that have stymied efforts on sex education and birth control.

Want to actually help fix the problem here? Get your party off their butts, and start an Apollo-type program to eliminate unwanted pregnancies. Do you have any idea how fast Democrats would embrace a program like that? Massive Federal funding to end unwanted pregnancies?

I was hoping to spend that windfall at Del Lago when they opened up. Looks like we will be paying those doctor bills instead. That is the way it goes. Life is funny my unemployment windfall will be just enough to pay for the surgery and rehab. No casino for me...

Thank you TLD in the last 3 years my wife will have had 1 knee replacement and very soon will be doing hip#2. To say she is depressed would be an understatement . My job is to not let her have a meltdown every single day. When she does I always remind her I will always be there for her. When I remind her what her surgeon told her, that 30 years ago she would be in a wheelchair. She can't understand why this keeps happening to her. One more major surgery and 3 months of painful rehab. Why do bad things happen to good people ? I ache for my wife. It kills me inside to see her in so much pain and crying every night because her hip hurts so much. We will get through it together. We have no other choice.

Thank you for your input MD. My wife new this was coming. She new it when she had to have her other hip replaced. I see her every day in horrible pain. She has 3 more weeks until her surgery. She plans on working until she goes under the knife. Every night she tries to hide it but she breaks down and cries her eyes out. It breaks my heart. She is 60 years old and thinks she is broken down and no good anymore. You are right, her hip surgery will take care of her pain. I tell her that every day. Her other hip feels great. We should be grateful we are alive in 2020, not 1970. My uncle died after his second heart attack and his treatment consisted of a bottle of nitroglycerin pills. Six years ago I walked into my local ER and told them I thought I was having a heart attack. I was. Within an hour I was stabilized and undergoing the dye scan. That was on a Wednesday. They determined little damage, if any, but I had a blockage in an area where a stent would not work. By Friday I was having “beating heart” open heart surgery for a cardiac bypass. I was up and walking the next day, and home by lunchtime on Monday. I was back to the office the following Monday. Just this February my wife, who has had a heart murmur her entire life had reached a point where she needed a total valve replacement. Same hospital, same team, same result. Home a day earlier than we thought. She is doing great. Wishing your wife a successful procedure and prayers for her speedy recovery. She should count her blessings that she was born in 1960, not 1906.

As someone wisely said on my Twitter feed - people like Washington and Jefferson, while being slaveholders helped to establish a framework for their eventual freedom. They set up a philosophy that inevitably led to the conclusion that slavery was wrong.

Now if we just can get it in our heads that promoting large prison populations with exploitable labor is really almost the same thing...
