A lot of valid points in that piece. We will see how boosters are rolled out. It has always been suggested from the beginning days of the vaccine development that we might need a booster. Thanks for posting it.

A reasonable set of questions and arguments, so I'd want to hear from those who are actually involved in the studies and development of boosters. Has the author misstated or misinformed the reader in any way in making the case that we should do more analysis before rushing to boosters? (seems reasonable that we'd want good data, but is he really aware of what's been studied?). He's a hematologist, not an expert in infectious diseases or vaccines.

The ethical argument is an interesting one, that the world needs first shots before we use those resources to layer on still another level of immunity among the richer countries...it may also have a practical benefit of reducing total disease transmission and thus variants.

But it's not the same as suggesting that we (family members) shouldn't be looking to boost the resistance to severe disease among our most vulnerable family and friends.

careful, kismet. i've been trying to throw some data out on israel and waning and it wasn't received well. what, you think 2 doses are useless?

israel has played a large part in our policies since july, for those that aren't aware. their timeline has informed us and we're using it. what we won't see (in 3 weeks) as alluded to in the article, is intermediate to long term effects for safety. nowhere near even what we did at trials. didn't just one vaxx regimen get full approval yesterday after a year+?

i'm also dubious that with just several weeks of data on younger, healthier cohorts... that we'll see much in the way anything other than antibody jumps for boosters. maybe some on hospitalizations, but unlikely in a country the size of israel much in deaths as it'll be way underpowered. as will hospitalizations for anything but the very short term, and even then. there'll be bigger infection numbers, and we'll assume benefits from there.

but we're going to pass out 100s of millions of doses maybe.

meantime, i'm assuming someone is using this mrna platform to tweak those vaxxes for better to handle variants. what if they're ready in 3 mos? and everyone just got boosted?

I don't think we'll see a lot of docs taking this position, but I do think we're going to see a ton of mandates and/or financial penalties for those who refuse to get vaccinated, ala Delta Airline's just announced $200 per month additional healthcare premium for all unvaccinated workers.
