Thanks that’s awesome but I’ll save it for another day with him as we are paying for these guys time and my son is probably the least focused of his friends.

(Naturally is in the gate program and tested at 7th grade reasons level in 3rd now but also a little wild, unfortunately exactly like my elementary school experience and we know how my sad story played out)

But I did get him a new (folks close your eyes for the next few words) baseball glove and we spent all yesterday working it in w mink oil, tied it up w a ball in it last night and he slept on it while I was schooling him in BB King and Bruce Springsteen all day so I did that right.

Coronavirus data have always been incomplete—but the situation in America is particularly murky now.

they touch on one thing repeatedly. that there has been so much varying and confounding results it's been very difficult to predict what's next, and where, and to what degree. the alpha michigan thing might be the weirdest.

wisco showing july results of about 79% protection from hospitalization, similar infection # protection, and still over 90% death protection. don't know for sure if that's all raw # and not stratified for age, but it sounds like it is (per 100k). so real protection in july is maybe higher.
“In February, among those who were vaccinated there were nearly 57 confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the state. In July, that increased to just over 125 cases per 100,000 vaccinated people, health department data shows.”

Who was vaccinated in February? 57 cases in February seems high compared to 125 in July?

it's per 100k, so a ratio.

also feb would've been seeing pretty big weekly % increases to vaxxed, so tough to measure probably.

july would've been seeing big weekly % increases to delta as a % of covid (< 1/4 prior to july 1 and well over 90% by the end july). august may tell more of delta/vaccinated protection.

Thanks for posting.

Demonstrates that we pretty much had Covid 1.0 beat with the vaccine roll out in the Spring. Even with millions of vax refuse-niks, it was contained.

Then we realized we were playing a doubleheader. Against a new, different and stronger team. Which means those refuse-niks all of a sudden really matter. And they really screwed us all.

Time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks. Not the regular folks. It is the unvaccinated folks who are letting us down.

Exactly. I don’t need to sit around a bar eating and drinking or being served “inside” a restaurant. Those are luxuries.
I will NEVER pay the Uber Eats/Lyft whatever bs delivery markup. NEVER.
I have never used those services. I call ahead and pick up. I do eat outside at a restaurant now that I am fully vaccinated but even now I am starting to re-think it until cases start to fall off and / or I get boosted.
We’re going to have a dozen kids over on Sunday for my sons birthday party. We’ve asked them to mask inside for the science part of the party and they get tested daily at school.

I’ve also had to take probably 20 flights in the last 15-18mo for business...
Mask inside and keep the windows open. It should be fine.
We have French doors in back of house and nice flow from these 100yr old pocket doors between living and dining rooms, one of those old swinging both ways doors into kitchen to back opening but windows may be tough right now here.

More saying I do a decent bit but I’m not as good as you and many. Little looser especially as I weigh very real and potentially consequential risks against similarly real costly and consequential costs to how much time I have to flip my now 7 and about to be 9yr olds lives upside down between all my other partially and fully created messes and 18mo of Covid plus the stuff w their grandmother dying, so I let my general circle which I would characterize as left of me in the school/friends of kids parents part of my life, kind of lead the path and I adjust from there. Ie if 12/13 weren’t said no to coming or expressed any ideas or concerns I’d have taken that into account given where there buses and general philosophy lies relative to mine. Could criticize that approach but kind of how let this stuff happen last few months since vaccination.
Like many things, manage the risk as best you can as often as you can. If parents have been vaccinated and air flow is good, risk is lower. My nephew was recently diagnosed with COVID. He passed it on to his wife but not his kids. He wasn’t vaccinated but his wife was. She tested positive and has mild symptoms. He thought he was going to die. He’s in Dallas and running around like a lot of Texans. He learned his lesson the hard way.
Here’s what is obnoxious, presumptuous and annoying.

We said masks for kids (at least inside house) in invite (evite where they have comment boxes). Also stated it was on the parents staying for masks if vaccinated. That’s what we communicated. More than a week of time to have any discussions. One lady show up demanding it as if everyone else is an jerk even though we had made it clear what our expectations we’re while being open to concerns or discussion whereas she assumed and didn’t bother to say anything. No some in laws are scrambling around etc. That’s a selfish a hole move when all they had to do is communicate said concern in advance.

you have to be selective. you and fam will be invited over inside year/mos unless something blows up. you'll be tempted to do something similar. don't. it'll be considered obvious and not explainable. most especially domestically unless she's in your camp (maybe she is with in laws scrambling). still, you need to walk your own path.

plausible deniability to all.

So far in 2021:

10 of Florida's 15 officer deaths were Covid.
Georgia even worse with 11 of their 15 due to Covid.
Of course, then there's Texas with 30 of 37 officer deaths due to Covid.

California had 6 of their 15 officer deaths due to Covid so far.

New York has had 5 officer deaths so far in 2021; 2 to Covid.

How dispersed were the other causes of death? Small ample size but is it relative to the general safety of a force as well?

For statistically insignificant but it says 40% of officer deaths in Ny/Cali are Covid related and 60-66% in Fl/Ga. of course one more Covid death in NY raises that % 1000bps to 50%...=

I like how on cop cars, "To protect and serve" is in quotes, like they're being sarcastic.

There's detail overall, and you can click through to specific states to drill down.

The other causes are nearly all related to the dangers of being a cop, a few to other causes, but very few.

The biggest states are of course California, NY, Texas and Florida...

Just seems like to few events to really conclude much with confidence. The Texas data might be the only one interesting IMO
