"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- An armed 22-year-old entered an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, just before midnight Saturday night and immediately opened fire, killing at least five people and injuring 18 others, before patrons stopped and disarmed him, police said Sunday.

The suspect in the shooting at Club Q was identified as Anderson Lee Aldrich, according to Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez. He used a long rifle in the shooting, and two firearms were found at the scene, he said.

Law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation told ABC News that the suspect in the mass shooting is the same person arrested in a June 2021 bomb threat incident."

Previous arrest (3 felonies) for a bomb threat, kidnapping, menacing and he still has firearms :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Anderson Lee Aldrich

Scion of a fine, fine American family of patriots...

'Heavy has confirmed that Aldrich is the grandson of outgoing Republican state Rep. Randy Voepel, the former mayor of Santee, California. There were calls to expel Voepel from the state Assembly after he made comments comparing the January 6 attacks to the Revolutionary War. Aldrich’s mother, Laura Voepel, has written posts praising Randy Voepel on Facebook and confirming he is her father.

This is Lexington and Concord. First shots fired against tyranny,” Randy Voepel, who was defeated in a Republican primary in August 2022, said in a San Diego Union-Tribune article three days after January 6. “Tyranny will follow in the aftermath of the Biden swear-in on January 20th.” According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Voepel “later tweeted that he condemned violence and lawlessness.”'

Colorado Springs has more than its fair share of religious nuts. Headquarters for Focus on the Family. Real extreme anti-LGBTQ "church".

WAPO report on Aldrich's early life. It looks like the kid had a less than optimal life, weak relationship with father, troubled mother, trouble with the police and history of being bullied.

"I talked this morning about an inflection point in this country right now, specifically for reporters:
What are you more afraid of? Being on Breitbart for saying that trans people deserve to be alive?
Or are you more afraid of waking up to the news of more dead people?"

Another salient opinion also on Twitter

"If you think someone’s gender threatens you, that who they choose to love or marry threatens you, that the pronouns they use or the clothes they wear or the sports they play, THREATENS you… they are not the problem.

You are."

... a big fan of Ben Collins and the work he does in the cyber world.

In my opinion the current clear post election increase in violence coming from the right against the LGBTQ community is a signal that their "attack" on democracy during the midterms failed. The highly visible electoral pushback and loses in contested states surprised the sh*t out of them. They are not defeated in detail but make no mistake this was a significant loss. Naturally as a reaction they turn up the volume against the weakest. It is what lowlife garbage, sh*t bags like Carlson, DeSantis, Evangelical ministries, etc. do.

In my opinion they had their greatest success down ballot where they organized to dominate school board elections by scaring parents with "the blacks are coming for your kid's souls", "the gays and friends are trying to indoctrinate your kids", and other similar LIES, trying to stoke fear of the "other" in white parents. In this battle of the school boards they had a huge advantage in dollars and organization(s). Decent society was slow to react and organize. Basically it was a Pearl Harbor like attack.

USA Today over the weekend ran an article that did an accounting of the battle. They looked at the races where easily identifiable "fascist" candidates ran. Identified by the astro-turfed right wing organizations they were affiliated with, Parents Defending Education, Moms for Liberty, various Evangelical organizations, Koch funded organizations, etc. All the members of these organizations are not fascists, the leadership is. Many if not most are members of the group who just bought into the lies and believe they were recruited to a noble cause.

These candidates all across the country were only successful in slightly under (IIRC) 50% of the races they ran in. Decent society had an advantage in that their candidates were incumbents in many cases. So basically it was a tie in battles fought, with only 2/3 rds of the school board positions up for election being battle grounds. So 33% won by the fascists, 33% won by decent society and 33% sides did not engage. Interestingly like the up ballot results in battle ground states, the BOE results were less good for the fascists. In non-battle ground states, the fascist BOE candidates did better. This likely a result of decent society paying less attention where the up ballot was not a concern. Note that most BOE stagger the election of board members, rotating all seats over 3 or 4 cycles.

The battle is not over and decent society needs to match the fascists in effort to protect our public education system. Their goal is the destruction of the public education system and replacing it with a private education system where the poorest will suffer even more. They don't really care about education as anything other than another profit opportunity and their ability to control who gets educated and what they are taught (indoctrinated with). Better to control society.
