A Florida pastor is imploring his parishioners to get vaccinated — after six members of the church recently died from COVID-19 within 10 days.

“Four of them were under the age of 35. All of them were healthy, and the only thing they had in common was they were not vaccinated,” Impact Church senior pastor George Davis told told WJXT-TV.

One of the victims was a woman who was recently married and had a young daughter, he added to WFLA-TV.

“It’s definitely taken a toll on us,” Davis said of the deaths. “Some of [the victims] have been extremely close to us. And to watch some of these people in the prime of their life.”

Hoping to prod unvaccinated parishioners to get their shots, the Arlington, Fla., church set up a vaccination clinic Sunday to encourage inoculations.

Davis said he has pushed parishioners to get the vaccine to counter misinformation — but that many have resisted his calls.

“It’s very frustrating knowing that these were avoidable deaths,” Davis told the Washington Post.

“You also don’t want the loved ones who are left behind to feel horrible and don’t want to seem like I’m putting guilt onto them, but the reality is I know that these people would still be here had they gotten the shot.”

Davis told the outlet he believes the vaccine is a divine gift.

“The miracle is no less of a miracle if medical science has to kick in to finish it off,” he told the outlet.

“For me, that’s a little bit of a turning point, because I’ve seen God do it with no medical help up until a point and then finish it off with medical help. And that’s what I [see] in this virus, too.”





To his credit, the church's pastor has done his job. But the politics of right wing stupidity overrides his wise counsel and the result is death.

Not true. Too much disinformation and propaganda out there. It's not about how informed a parent is, it's how they are informed. Who is informing them, how much they trust the informer, and when. If they're informed with the wrong info, it's exponentially harder to get them to do the right thing. Even if that original informer changes their tune.

Read an interesting article written by an educated (GW 4 year degree) women who explained why she was not getting vaccinated. She was well informed generally, in general knew the arguments, but in my opinion was misinformed on some issues, sounded like right wing talking points. Consulted with her "trusted" physician who agreed with her that she was very low risk. Young, healthy, stay at home mom (of 7 kids). Claims she has no issue with vaccines, but feels she has been lied to by those urging people to vaccinate. Claims if her doctor had not agreed, she would have gone out and gotten vaccinated.

Claims she wrote the article because she wanted vaccinated people to stop thinking the unvaccinated are stupid.

this, to me, has seemed to always be the case since this started. without being able to parse it out, media shock, proposed restrictions and skittishness on consequences will take up their roles in driving any increased uptake in the coming months.
the vaxx rates and numbers lately (shown in graphs and text in daily mail link) are encouraging. if we can squeeze 2 months of 500k 1st shots it can get us up to 215 mill in those presumably looking to get fully vaxxed. that's a 75% number on over 11s and what i always guessed would be near a best case. between that and previous infection immunity we'd be strapped up as best could be expected. hopefully, enough people get scared of the virus or what they might lose.
if not, we move on.

I'm fine with eventual "move on" as long as I don't need to be put at risk, my loved ones put at risk, by those who are refusing vaccination. Keep'em off my bus, train, plane, out of my restaurant, bar, venue, business, school, etc...they want to join the community, great. If not, I also don't want to pay for their health care. Yes, "what they may lose"...

It's an interesting microcosm of America in here. These posters' words exhibit one of the more insidious ideas to worm its way into the American (and global) right since the late 1970's, accelerating with Fox and far-right talk radio and the 24 hour news cycle.

1. I don't care about it or you until it affects me.

Anti-LGBTQ+ until they have a son, daughter, or friend. Anti-abortion until their daughter or mistress gets knocked up. The list goes on and on.

The problem we face is that even if these people are affected directly, many double down on their erroneous beliefs. How many people got mild COVID and still believe it's "no big deal"? Too many. How many people had friends or family die and still believe all the right-wing talking points? Too many.

We could have been in a much better situation a long, long time ago if the previous president and the right had been united with the rest of America and not sown doubt, disinformation, and distrust in mundane science since the beginning.

Too many dead Americans at their hands.
