He then said, " I'd rather trust the hospital to help me get better when sick, then just shoot my a$$ up with something". I told him at some point it may begin impacting where you can go and what buildings you can enter, b/c legally they can refuse entry without vaccination. he replies "well, when that time comes, then I'll be left with another decision, until then...I'm good".

At this point, we can not, but as more agencies and buildings mandate, it will squeeze those that are not vax'd...as he noted. I do have one guy medically should not.....an adult lifer on prednisone/steroid, so he likely gets waiver but will need to suit up.

Based on your numbers, the question is why are blacks (aka ggait identified knuckleedraggers, mouth breathers, etc) refusing the shot at a higher percentage than whites?

This afternoon, I asked an associate who I hired and reports to me and was hospitalized fall 2020 w/CV-19 and rhabdomyolysis at the same time, why he has chosen to not receive the vaccine.....his reply "black folks just don't trust stuff like this, and we especially will not get anything from jnj because of what they did us".

He then said, " I'd rather trust the hospital to help me get better when sick, then just shoot my a$$ up with something". I told him at some point it may begin impacting where you can go and what buildings you can enter, b/c legally they can refuse entry without vaccination. he replies "well, when that time comes, then I'll be left with another decision, until then...I'm good".

Good for him. I would make him foot his own bill if he chose not to be vaccinated. Dude may not have insurance…Hospital has to take care of him anyway. Probably hits up the emergency room instead of a regular doctor. He’s the reason my insurance is high.

At this point, we can not, but as more agencies and buildings mandate, it will squeeze those that are not vax'd...as he noted. I do have one guy medically should not.....an adult lifer on prednisone/steroid, so he likely gets waiver but will need to suit up.

I know guys that are requiring employees to get vaccinated or tested frequently. So frequently that it will be a hassle. That guy has a good excuse, BTW.

human behavior (carefulness or fear) no doubt helps. daily vaxx #s are up 20+% after a mostly continued decline. maybe a careful/fear barometer.

Uptake on the shots will definitely be correlated to perception of risk. And, more generally to the perceived risk/reward proposition.

As cases and deaths declined from March thru June (due to vaxx uptake and seasonality), that lessens the incentive to get the shot among the remaining people. Less perceived risk and fewer hassles -- so why bother. Since the drops allowed the elimination of masks and other restrictions for everybody (even though the restrictions were supposed to stay in place for the unvaxxed).

The Delta surge raises perceived risk -- so more folks have now started to get the shots. TBD if the MAGAs would ever take the shot based on increased health risk. But almost everyone (even most MAGAs) would be motivated to get the shot if we implemented rules (like the NFL for example) that treated people differently based on their risk profile for the community. If you are vaxxed, you are basically good. If not vaxxed, then testing, masks, social distancing, work from home, no cruise ships, no indoor dining, etc. etc. etc.

A big problem has been that we have let the unvaxxed off the hook by not making those kind of distinctions. Why get the shot if no one has to wear a mask (shot or not)? Or if everyone has to wear a mask (shot or not)?

hesitancy was always going to happen. incentivizing negatively probably, too.

the recent announcements on masks for all (your last sentence) as well as -- delta's contagious so vaxx need to mask up also-- to me seems like it could be a detriment. we'll never know on the numbers, nor will we know why they pulled the trigger on it (cost/benefit). maybe they have some research that suggests it won't hurt whatever progress they think they'll make.

Sounds right to me. You'd get the shot if (i) you are afraid of getting seriously sick or (ii) not getting a shot was more hassle than getting it.

For the past several months, (i) and (ii) were not at high levels. Delta is bringing (i) and (ii) back.

With the benefit of hindsight, the miss was not keeping (ii) in place over the past few months. If being not vaxxed was more of a hassle (e.g. the NFL rules) folks would have kept getting shots even if cases/deaths were low.
