Given this season and the angst, this has to be one of the best shellackings” of those bottom feeders on the south of I 95. Darby withstanding . Way to go coach. It’s MARYLAND and that’s all that mattered today!

Hopkins CRUSHES Maryland!

Expected this all along. ;)

Terrific gut check win. Blue Jays finally played a full 60 minutes and they just beat one of the best teams in the nation. The WAY they beat Maryland was truly impressive. Very proud of the young men! :)

Great to see Coulter and Zinn get more playing time!

At their best, this Hopkins team can play with anyone and beat anyone. Glad they finally proved that to themselves. ;)

One down, two wins to go!

Not that I saw. Narewski was just more effective today.

Well. That was fun.

Good:

- ZINN PLAYED OFFENSE
- Epstein
- Williams
- Narewski
- Most of the rest of the offense
- After getting beat twice early by Bernhardt, Foley won that matchup the rest of the way
- Pole goals
- Logan Blondell selling out to stop a fast break opportunity
- Ryan Coulter giving us our best SSDM play since...Marshall Burkhart/Phil Castronova? Why has he never played? Does he have another year of eligibility?
- Zinn couldn't find the back of the net tonight but he was a menace in transition. It's comical watching him run by defenders with complete ease. Gets the defense rotating every. single. time. He is a gear faster than everyone on the field.
- Perfect on clears
- Didn't foul
- Stayed mentally tough in the second half, weathered Maryland's runs

The yikes:

- Fairman ate us alive
- Darby couldn't stop a beach ball
- Mark Dixon continues to call Matt Hubler "Chris" and I'm pretty sure I heard a "Danny Narewski" in there at some point.

Haven't had many opportunities to say this this season, but today, it's a great day to be a Jay.

Now let's do it again. Darby has to tighten up for round 2.

If that were the first Jays game you watched this year, and you hadn't been reading this board, you'd be fairly certain that JHU was a lock for the NCAA tourney.
Let's see what kinds of adjustments Tillman makes for Round 2, and moreover how Petro prepares his young men. No resting on your laurels. Congratulations, really well done.

Doc, I would argue they played 45 but it was the right 45 as their was no 4th quarter slide. Q1 was reminiscent of Q4's against Cuse, UVA and OSU IMO

adding to the Yikes:

Zinn played defense, or attempted to. His Matador style needs work.

The question is, if he's bad on defense and good on offense, why has he been playing almost all defense and no offense this season?

I am not going to credit the kid for this win, obviously this was a huge team effort with contributions from many people but I don't think it's a coincidence the offense had probably its best game of the season when he was out there getting regular midfield runs. His speed from up top opens up a lot of things the offense simply doesn't have without someone like him on the field.

How did MD only wind up with 20 shots, 13 of which were on goal, and 11 went in?

Definitely take the W, but those are some WTFoxtrot numbers.

Which result in... 2 saves.

I would expect MD to shoot more often next time.

CRAB!

Zinn changes the game. He flat out runs by guys. He should be running on the first line the rest of the season.

When guys question why people come on here banging the drum for guys on the bench - Exhibit A - Ryan Coulter - 3 3/4 wasted years.

Exhibit B - Zinn - Thankfully only wasted 3/4 of a season.

That's on Petro

Loyola needs to win the Patriot League tournament. If they don’t, that’s one less at-large spot available. Please no upsets.

The Towson situation is interesting. Jays badly need them to win the CAA. But if they don’t, they have to lose in the first round rather than in the conference championship game. If the final spot comes down to Towson and Hopkins I assume they’d give it to Towson by virtue of the February head-to-head shellacking—even if Hop’s overall numbers are slightly better. Great way to make that not matter is by beating the Terps a second time.

Inserting Narewski turned things around.Up 5-1, the Terps looked ready to run the visitors out of the stadium. Jays go on an 8-1 run to take a 9-6 lead at halftime and maintained it. Darby was not the only goalie having trouble seeing the ball. Slow down one of 1,2, and 12 for Maryland and you can beat them. Even more impressive than Foley’s late second quarter goal was the gb that led to it. Had he missed the gb, Maryland would have had a man advantage with Hopkins’ best dman behind the ball. He sold out for the gb, converting on a coast to coast goal. My idea of real highlight material, more so , for example, than most dives.

Absolutely stunning win after down 5-1. Where have these guys been all year? I hope but, can't believe they do the same in round two!

Why so much love for Rutgers? (slightly higher chance of conf championship than Hop...)

Marquette is now out of their tourney, so zero chance of AQ. (or did you just update Hopkins & Md?)
