It was brutal. I changed about 20 times as the crazy results kept coming in.

I also want to apologize in advance to St. Joe/Drexel fans as my top 20 will come out immediately following the Denver/Yale game, and the St. Joe/ Drexel game will not be over by then.
Thanks to fans of those teams as that game will not affect my top 20, but it still means a great deal to fans of those teams.

lol.

This year could be a year when any team goes on a heater at the right time. The favorites of Duke/UVA/ND can be had; I feel like this is the year of 2016, unseeded UNC taking the title.

(***I’m prepared to eat my statement if one of those three ACC teams wins the rest of their conference games)

That was considerate of you but that game has little affect other than Pennsylvania d1 order. PSU should surge this week in top 20, Lafayette has quietly improved and moved up

PSU
Penn
Villanova
Lehigh
Lafayette
St Joes
Drexel
Bucknell

If there is one silver lining to last night's game, it is that I feel vindicated in my statement that SU was much better than their W/L record. Good losses (close losses to good teams) are indeed reflected not just subjectively, but in the Power Rankings (not yet updated as I type this).
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.

Agree . ACC*, Big Ten and Ivies are all deep but no dominant team ie Maryland 22" appears to exist.
(imo* UNC top talent too young to surprise with run)

Denver and Army ( be great to see the academy win it all ) obviously can compete .

Richmond is my underdog pick, hope they make tourney

Thanks, it kind of reminds me of my rooting for Cornell this upcoming weekend in BASKETBALL, as they participate in Ivy Madness. Fans of Duke, Houston, Uconn,Kansas etc. And for that matter, Joe Lunardi or any of the college basketball gurus, caring about a tournament that will produce a 13 or 14 seed, but I CARE, and certainly the fans of Yale, Princeton, and Brown care.

Looks like Hopkins remains at #2 RPI with wins over #4 and #16.

Syracuse moves up to #10 RPI with wins over #2 and #26.

Penn State is #3 RPI with wins over #5, #11 and #17.

These teams are getting close to locks for the NCAAs with still half the season to go.

FYI, I’m assuming ND, UVA, Duke are locks.
Army is closing in on a lock as well.

Have any of them played any in conference contests yet? think you are putting the cart before the horse on locks..........
That being said, if anyone looks like they have a clear path it's Army, whose toughest remaining opponent is UNC. The others have multiple tough conference rivals and other top ranked teams to face

Interesting comments in last week's Inside Lacrosse media poll relevant to the discussion about whether pollsters take into account the nature of a team's losses (i.e. "good losses):
“Villanova did not make the Media Poll cut, but I value their dominant win against Colgate, the strength of their losses to Penn State and Yale, the fact that a super young team is already improving and the strength of their efficiency numbers.
(Matt Kinnear, Inside Lacrosse 3/5/2024).
“I understand why I’m higher on the Spiders than many other voters. They’re suffering from a similar problem as last year (and, candidly, a similar problem to a team like Syracuse): their good loses have far more quality than their best wins.”

Good poll. I’d maybe flip Maryland and pen state spots, and yale and Denver spots

You need a martini after these weekends. This poll work isn’t easy, other than Army.

Not gonna lie, I’d be really happy if Army found the Natty at the end of the season. I can’t imagine them losing until the tournament; I don’t see anyone they won’t certainly be favored over. The only return to some semblance of polling predictability is if they lose to Loyola or one of the other PL teams.

Great job yet again, JoeWillie!!
