The top 10 teams in the D1 power rankings right now (WM, Northport, Connetquot, Hills, Huntington, Smithtown East, Sachem East, Bay Shore, Sachem North, and Longwood) are a combined 8-9 in non league play (with the best wins being Northport over Port Washington or Connetquot over Islip)

The top 10 teams in D2 (Mt Sinai, SWR, BBP, Hauppauge, Comsewogue, Miller Place, East Islip, Smithtown West, Harborfields, and West Islip) are 14-2 with wins over Garden City, Massapequa, Wantagh, Farmingdale, and Briarcliff.

Really striking.
That can’t all be blamed on St Anthony’s, what’s the reason for this?

Bigger picture, aside from a few teams (Manhasset, MtS, BBP, and the Catholics), there are a lot of great LI programs with somewhat weak teams (Syosset, Pequa, Farmingdale, GC, CSH, both Smithtowns, WM, WI, Huntington, Comsewogue,..)

Some of it can be explained simply by West Islip and Smithtown West moving into D2. Even though they aren't great this year they make D2 deeper and D1 not as deep.

Some of it could be cyclical too. But certainly losing all the kids to St Anthony's doesn't help.

Yeah but neither Smithtown team is playing all that well in D2, and they used to be top notch D1 teams. Same for WI. That’s a really big fall off

Smithtown East is still in D1. Smithtown West and West Islip would both be top 8 teams still in D1. D2 is much stronger (and SW is still top 8 while WI is 10).

Real eye opener with Hauppauge going out to Wading River and rolling the Wildcats 14-6. Following their win over Comsewogue, guess we can safely say the Eagles are the team to beat in Suffolk B.

I'm guessing it's somewhat cyclical but you can look to the youth programs in all these towns for clues. Presently the amount of participation and dedication in Manhasset to lacrosse from HS all the way down to first grade is off the charts. From the parents, to the coaching, clinics, practicing, lessons etc is assuring a steady flow of experienced well taught players for the next 8-10 years right now. Maybe, for whatever the reason, some towns have a generation where that dedication and quality coaching isn't there or in the case where a school seems to rise out of nowhere it actually started years ago

Ok but both Smithtown teams are disappointing this year compared to their historic standards….as are the others. For some ( GC, CSH, WM) it’s cyclical, but there’s another layer of many of these programs not being ultra competitive for years (Farmingdale, Pequa, Smithtowns, WI, Rocky point, etc…)

Yeah, i had assumed the lacrosse culture was cemented in many of these places where it wouldn’t be an issue

Sure, I was just arguing that that one was one factor as to why D2 is better than D1 now.

The Smithtowns have a robust youth program and I would expect them to be fine in the long run. I don't know what to make of West Islip. Rocky Point was kind of a flash in the pan for a few years.

Ridgefield 1-0 with 3 minutes left in the half. One of the most remarkable half’s I’ve ever watched. Goalie must have 15 high quality saves, and Manhasset has misfired on a number of other shots. We’ll see how this continues but probably should be 8-1 right now

2-1 Ridgefield at the half. Manhasset did not score until 5.6 seconds were left in the half off faceoff following Ridgefield’s 2nd goal The Tigers held it for 2 minutes + before scoring hoping to end the half that way. Look for more of the same. Goalie is Dylan Penn, a sophomore. “Standing on his head” does not do justice to what he’s been doing.

Intense game….Ridgefield deserves a lot of credit for their tenacity. Manhasset seemed to crack the code for a bit, going on a 6-1 run, and taking a 3 goal lead but the Tigers battled hard, won a few face offs, scored the next 2, and shut down any easy paths to the goal. so Manhassset bled the last 9 minutes off the clock with keep-away.

6-5 Manhasset final. Ridgefield made Manhasset look mortal; clearly had scouted them well. Tigers played good team defense against them. Goalie was credited with 18 saves.

I do think if Manhasset executed a bit better/Ridgefield goalie was a little more mortal in the first half the game wouldn’t have been so close. But credit to that kid for how well he played

Syosset beats CSH 6-5. Just caught the final minute. They scored with about 50 seconds left to win.

Colsey has built a terrific program. His son is taking a red shirt this season at UVA.As is a guy from Manhasset Secondary School.I'm eager to see them step on the feld next season.

Not a surprise IMHO. Any team is mortal.Even one's that are 4 miles apart and in different conferences.

Eager to revisit this STATEMENT in June to see how those WEAK teams finish the season. Hell one of the WEAK teams hasn't won a state championship since last June.
