Question - Did BC choke the past 4 out of 5 years?OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 7:28 am
Correct--it is sports--and in sports, choking happens all the time. I define choking as doing something to lose a game because you get nervous in crunch time.
Merriam-Webster gives it thus: "to lose one's composure and fail to perform effectively in a critical situation"
"had a chance to win the game but he choked"
Thank goodness we were spared another year of chest pounding from the BC faithful (not that it will stop the "Ah, the magnificence of BC and their storied past! Ah, the genius of AWW! Ah, the 1 National Championship!" litany. The job of a team's social media account is to promote their team how they see fit. It's not run by the coaches or players, but someone in media relations. Maryland likes to hype their team a lot, but they have a lot of reason to do so this season and historically. Yes, Sterling probably had some moments she wants back from the Final Four, but so does everyone on the team. She was dialed in early to help them stay in the game when MD was losing draws and then struggled in the second half. It's not like Hall was a brick wall that day either.
+100 I agree and have tried to bring attention to those same things regarding social mediajff97 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 9:56 pmThe job of a team's social media account is to promote their team how they see fit. I know it's the media department but it doesn't make their boasting and bragging any less irritating. Always ALWAYS pounding their chest--the Chelonians. Whether they win or lose--Always. "Ah, the magnificence of Maryland and their storied past! Ah, the genius of Cathy Reese! Ah, the 15 National Championships!" I always root against this team for that reason alone. And the more humble pie they have to choke down their gullet, the better.jff97 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 9:56 pmThe job of a team's social media account is to promote their team how they see fit. Do you think….they posted that tweet….because Sterling was just today named IWLCA Goalie of the Year?……OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 10:15 pmI know it's the media department but it doesn't make their boasting and bragging any less irritating. And who said anything about Hall?
Though it was nice to see the goalie who has been trashed on these boards time and again throughout the season get the win over her far superior counterpart. As a wise man once pointed out, "The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong." That was certainly the case in goal on that Friday at Homewood when Rachel Hall, the goalie with no fundamentals and no tactical clue (sarcastica font there) beat the goalie who was The Best from start to finish--well, not the finish, but right up to it. That's the trouble with media departments and their social media accounts--they're so used to spinning everything that they find it hard to distinguish between the hype and the truth.
Bit off on the save percentage. Hall was .238 while Sterling was .320. Not either goalie's best day. And if he thinks the women's team social media account is excessive, he'd have a heart attack if he's seen how much the men's team has posted since they won the championship Monday to be in contention for one of the best teams ever.wlaxphan20 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 10:39 pmDo you think….they posted that tweet….because Sterling was just today named IWLCA Goalie of the Year?……OuttaNowhereWregget wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 10:15 pmI know it's the media department but it doesn't make their boasting and bragging any less irritating. And can you find a media department that didn’t post anything that had a player win a major award?…
When I look at their social media I see the same thing that every other professionally run team account posts, so I don’t understand why this one is so bad.
I don’t see any excessive posts about Marylands storied past, the genius of Cathy Reese, or their 15 national championships. They’re all about current events and accomplishments. Care to point them out?
Rachel Hall’s save percentage in that game was 0.3125 and Sterling’s was 0.47. Yes, her team won, but Rachel Hall was not the better goalie that day IMO. Maryland shot 100%, 5 for 5, in the 4th quarter and lost because they did not even get a shot off in the last 7 minutes of the game (huge credit to BC’s defense).
Social media accounts aren't "spinning things" they're just doing their job - highlighting the success of the players and the program. If you are looking at a team's social media for objective information you are looking in the wrong place.
Thanks, definitely took the GA number instead of shots, either way, I don’t think that was what tipped the scale in BC’s favor.jff97 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 11:28 pmBit off on the save percentage. It bothers me when the announcers are trying to talk while the mic'd official/players are talking during the draw. Too confusing. Announcers should be silent during the draw if the official is mic'd.totc wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 8:01 amDisagree! The ref mics are great when conversing with players or explaining fouls/yellows.

The women’s lacrosse Fanlax board has so much unnecessary sniping. Truly bizarre.
These girls are incredible, coming off an incredible tournament…that should be everyone’s focus, not stolen valor, hype cornermen, or promotional social media. Jeebus.
Not that I follow any female lax athlete, but I’d bet their own social media is about friendships and joy, not whatever this is here. Chill. Relax Francis. Enjoy the sports meteoric rise. Applaud the gals. Applaud their social media. It’s all good, I assure you.

Welcome to watching women's lacrosse. You will find it is a fascinating game. Don't sweat the rules so much early on (you will pick it up as you go), just enjoy watching the movement and flow both offensively and defensively.

Aside from the obvious difference in subject matter, why would interaction between members be any different here than it is on the politics board?
