Do you just want me to list famous UNC alumni?
This incredible UMD education clearly never taught you about the straw man fallacy.
UNC has 9 Nobel prize winners, 23 Pulitzer Prize winners and 51 Rhodes Scholars.
Correct me if I am wrong, Maryland has had 3 Nobel Prize winners, 15* Pulitzer Prize winners and 2 Rhodes Scholars?
The US World and News Report ranked Maryland 58th and 19th among public schools. That same rankings had UNC 28th and 5th among public schools.
Maryland’s acceptance rate is 47% to UNC’s 23%.

I don’t know alumni that well off the top of my head, but if I do a quick 15 minute scan on the internet…

LT (Goat Football player)
Mia Hamm (Goat Women’s Soccer player)

You can’t go one day without UMD in your life

Google
Seinfeld
Hybrid Engine
Octane system
Pulse Doppler Radar (weather radar)
Universal price bar code
Sirius Satellite Radio

If UNC evaporated vs UMD evaporated the world would only be radically changed by no UMD impact.

Omg… I don’t want to pile on.. but I was going to admit the inventor of Pepsi was pretty good for UNC. Falls between Underarmour and well below the Muppets ( which… let’s face it Henson was a genius) since it was basically a copy of Coke. Then it turns out that the Pepsi inventor went to UMD medical school.. so now UNC gets pounded even worse ! All that other crap.. lawyers, politicians, business managers… test takers .. UMD and every college has tons of that stuff that’s not big enough to matter. UMD is lacrosse and geniuses (and Crabcakes).

Ok…. I’m really sorry I didn’t include this in the prior post … but it’s late and I forgot.

….. the richest man in North Carolina is the UMD alum that invented Fortnite (which is way down the list of UMD impactful unable to escape even one day of having to use genius)

😂😂😂😂😂😘😘🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

This thread and the twin in the Maryland thread are making me laugh. Y’all are funny!

Both schools have a tremendous history of nurturing and supporting women’s athletics … and have hardware to show for their effort and investment. You can get a great education at either … largely influenced by the culture and environment created by the adults in the room.

The out-of-state acceptance rate at UNC is 14% which makes it very hard to get into.

UNC takes a ton of transfer students from out of state that evens out that freshmen acceptance rate.

Plus you don’t have to be literate to graduate. So it’s a pretty easy school.

Like I have said many times, there is no such thing as a bad academic school. I try to never compare and contrast schools based on who their alumni are. Every school has their distinguished graduates, whom have made their mark on our society.

Please find me 1 legit ranking where Maryland is not just higher ranked than UNC academically, but ranked within the same vicinity.

US News - UNC 20 spots better
Forbes - UNC 18 Spots better
WSJ - UNC 25 spots better (!)
Washington Monthly - UNC 41 Spots better (!!!)

The question shouldn’t be UNC vs Maryland, it should be which institution is better academically Maryland or FSU!

PS. Many big Tech billionaires were college dropouts, so the UMD education likely played 0 role in developing google.

College is as much if not more of how much a student puts into it as to the school itself.
