Just saw an updated ESPN schedule for Saturday and NU at BC is now listed at noon. This rounds out a very nice opening weekend. All the marquee games are covered. And as an added bonus, Michigan at Notre Dame Sunday night to top it off.

Fri - #13 Stanford at #3 Syracuse - 6pm - ACCN

Sat - #4 Northwestern at #1 BC - Noon - ACCN
- #2 Carolina at #12 JMU - 1pm - LSN

Sun - #23 Michigan at #5 ND - 6pm - ACCN

In addition to the obvious best games coming up...

Friday at 5pm on ACCN we can get our first look at Pittsburgh as they host Duquesne. It will make for an appetizer before the battle of the colors (Cardinal vs Orange) gets underway at 6pm.

#9 Maryland at St. Joe's Saturday at 3:30 beaming on espn+ might be a nice 2nd game of the day after NU at BC at noon. We'll get a peek at the new look Terps and who knows--the Hawks might prove competitive for a while. They finished 10-7 last year with 2 OT losses plus a first round A10 tournament win over then #19 Richmond.

Ohio St vs Cincinnati and Lehigh vs St. Joe's--both 4pm start times Wednesday on espn+

Friday the 18th offers a couple of intriguing matchups:

#18 Jacksonville hosts USC at 3pm on espn+ and the ACCN offers a very interesting early test for both teams as #11 Virginia hosts #9 Maryland at 5.

Plenty of good games to choose from this first week coming up. Hopefully the camerawork will be up to snuff for these games. One can always turn down the sound on brutal commentators but a body can't do much to get away from poor camerawork.

Will be interesting to see USC this year. They struggled last year and nearly half of their roster is new to the team this season (15 of 31). They have 12 frosh and 3 transfers. USC's goalie situation is GR transfer from Iona (18 career starts, 0.430 SV%), SO transfer from BC (2 game appearances), and true FR - so, that should be interesting.

Sounds like they have their work cut out. They were ranked 4th in PAC12 preseason coaches poll behind Stanford, Colorado and Arizona St.

Zo! Movink shmartly on from der claptraps and der kerfuffles...

#8 Maryland at #10 Virginia - 5pm Friday - ACC Network.

#4 Stony Brook at #3 Syracuse - 4pm Sunday - ACCNX

No doubt these are the two marquee matchups of the weekend. I know the #7 Gators are hosting the #2 Tar Heels but I have reservations that game will be competitive past a certain point. The Heels are motivated and they won't let Florida get in the way of their stated goal--to win a 3rd Nat while the (excellent) grads and seniors are still here.

All 4 teams will get their first real test of the season. Will Innovator Joe be able to coach 'em up to counter the overwhelming talent of Syracuse? We'll get a good initial indication of where Maryland is in their rebuild, if I can call it that.

Now some honorable mention games that are streaming:

Friday

USC at #18 Jacksonville 3pm - This is a very interesting game. Will Jacksonville continue to disprove the naysayers or does USC actually show up for a road game against a ranked team and get back in the national spotlight.

#15 Denver at #14 Stanford 9pm - This might be a great game seeing as how they met in the NCAA's last year but good golly that's late for this old timer. We'll see how much energy is left in the tank.

Saturday

#9 Loyola at #21 Johns Hopkins 11am - This is another dilly of a game but alas, the ears have to get lowered and nowadays one has to make an appointment for a haircut. If I'da known, I would have chosen another time. This should be a real test for both clubs. Loyola won the last meeting in 2020 by a 16-7 score. The year before Hop took it 13-11. The Hounds own the series 14-5.

Sunday

#16 Princeton at #10 Virginia 12pm - First look at Princeton since 2019. Crazy to think it was that long ago. We'll see what state the Hoos are in. If they knock off the Terps Friday they may be too busy reading their own press clippings to put in a strong mental effort. On the other hand, if they lose to Maryland they may come out loaded for bear, as the saying goes.

All in all, a great 2nd weekend of women's lacrosse in the young season.

Hop hosts Hounds

Unless the Gators bite the Heels, this is the game of the day for me. (And Doc and hmmm will be there in the stands--those two lucky SOB's πŸ˜‰)

Forecast is nippy in the low 40's and a bit windy (15-20 mph).

My haircut appt should allow me to get back in time to catch the end of the 2nd period and the whole 2nd half.

Pretty sure the game streams free here: https://www.centennialconference.tv/hopkinssports/

Hopefully it'll be a good'n.

Go Hop! Go Hounds!

Should be a very lopsided game, but it aint. 8-)

Unless you're Georgetown. In 2020 The Hoyas dominated Hop 26 to 4 in the draw circle and lost 15-14. Yesterday, G'Town held a 24-13 advantage over Rutgers yet lost 17-16.

SBU v. Florida -- SBU by 1 or 2
Harvard v. Penn -- Penn by 2-3; don't think they have the scoring to get out ahead as much as Doc thinks.
St. Joe's v. Towson -- SJU by 1 or 2
Syracuse v. Duke -- Syracuse by 6. Duke's only hope is, as you'd expect, for Jenner to completely dominate and then for Duke to be remarkably efficient on Offense.
Vanderbilt v. Denver -- Pioneers by a few.
Drexel v. JHU -- Hopkins by 2.

I don’t think Louisville gets lucky like last year when they played BC. It won’t even be close . BC by 8
Cuse will win but another close game …I think it will def come down to how well Duke goalie does . Jenner will dominate on draw . ND over UVA. SB easy win over Florida
