Appreciate the thorough notes, RF.

Points wise seems like:
Degnon - 4
Collison - 2
Bauer - 2
McDermott - 2
Angelus - 1
Melendez - 1
Chauvette - 1
Phillips - 1

Add two more apiece for Collison and Marquis if you count Q5.

Going > 50% on faceoffs as a team is a good sign, especially for Callahan who apparently was 10/13. Trying not to get too excited but he keeps getting it done when given extended run, and Stathakis is no joke.

Sounds like a defensive struggle. Did the offenses look rusty? Weather was no factor.

Started subbing down the bench a bit defensively with 4 mins left in Q3
Q4 more subs defensively brown, deans, kaufman at close

Seemed like goalie competition may be Marcille's to lose at the moment. He got the run with the 1s today and looked generally serviceable to good. Carraciolo sure looked good to my eye though it may have been some level of competition stuff playing against the Denver bench too, but he really did just look the part had a confidence he carried himself with and the way he moved when making saves and outlets he simply looked like he belonged out there and knew what he was doing.
Thanks Ruffeled for the excellent write up.

Who on close D impressed? Brown or Todaro? Any CTs?

In terms of TOs, which side handled the ball better?

Defense was pretty solid. Deans and Brown flashed most of the day with both creating some turnovers and nice on ball pressure. All 3 goalies played very well. Hopkins offensively looked more confident and fluid throughout the day. They did have a couple turnovers that lead to 3 fast break goals by DU. All in all team looked very impressive and everyone who was at the game should have the same sense that they are improved and could be a team on the rise. They played very hard and won most of the 50/50 balls. Every time DU scored they answered right back. Should be an exciting year.

I’ve heard a few reports from the day and it all sounds very positive. No glaring concerns as in the recent past. This is good news as it is a heck of a schedule looming.

Did I miss a report on Mazzone?

It's a home game isn't it? Only question is whether the weather will be warm and dry enough to bicycle to Annapolis. Then avoiding the amateur drinkers on the way back.
Last year was at Hopkins. This year is at Navy Stadium.
Yes and if the game is within 200 miles of Homewood Field, then it's a home game.

RF - thanks so, so much for the writeup. Really appreciate it.

So the second midfield is the "OCanada" line?

Maybe someone from UNC was there and can add details.

I know he’s on the roster, Jacksonville was slow in releasing their
roster, and Waldbaum is the one guy I wanted to see if he still
had eligibility left.

Mazzone, Smith, Ruddy and Deans played most of the 1st half on close D. They would interchange Deans and Mazzone on the wings as well on FOs. Those 4 looked the part. Very athletic and strong on ball. Once they get 44 back they will have solid depth at D with Brown and others in the mix. Bauer looked very quick and was winning his matchup consistently. Collison is a Stud. Created space off dodge well and can win against a ssdm or pole. Have to think once Matt N comes back FOs will be outstanding. Really good mix with him, TD and Callahan. The offense created early and made strong adjustments to DUs false slides. Again this is a January scrimmage but they looked night and day from last year. Team is bought in and coaches have them competing and heading in the right direction.

Seriously? Waldbaum arguably Jax best offensive player rumored injured vs Lynchburg scrim.

Sometimes no news is good news for a defenseman. He definitely played judging by photos.

Reports I'm hearing are also mostly positive but someone did tell me it was sloppy (even for a scrimmage) and that the infamous clearing bug reared its head again. Had they cleared better the score would have been more lopsided. Would love if they could sort that out now instead of halfway through the season. They've got the athletes now to do it.

BTW here is Collison shrugging off a 6'1'', 205 junior d-mid like he's a gnat in his ear. Shoots an overhand missile with the guy draped on his back: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn-IipvtSBU/

Hoping that Collison and Marquis send a message to the IL raters this year. Collison should have been a five star and Marquis at least closer to it. Leaving Willem Firth off of the top 50 is their latest disrespect to Canadian talent.

Appreciate the notes.

You know what's going on with Narewski? Another setback or are they just being extremely cautious with him (for obvious reasons)? It's great that we have the luxury of TD and Callahan but I'd love if all three were healthy and ready to go.

That is an absolutely enormous group of defensemen.

As far as Narewski seems like being cautious and making sure he’s 100% so no issues happen during season like last. Really looking forward to next Saturday. Should be a solid matchup and one that the Jays could win and really start the season on the right foot. They need it with this schedule.

Collison was on practically every Under-xx Canadian National team, box, field, plus Ontario Jrs - so its not as if he didn’t get a lot of easy to access exposure.
