I would really like to read FFGs take on this. This is his area of expertise. It would be a sad state of affairs when people can use people suffering and dying as a source of a quick buck.

Stern warning from Russia to Israel...flooding Hamas tunnels in Gaza will be viewed on their part as a war crime. You seriously can't make this stuff up. Curiouser and curiouser it becomes to quote Alice from her adventures in wonderland.

Another Shameful US Veto at the United Nations
Nothing could be more divorced from reality than an administration that is actively stoking the conflict while pretending that a ceasefire is bad for the cause of peace.

https://www.antiwar.com/blog/2023/12/10 ... d-nations/

Friday was another shameful day for the Biden administration and the United States:

The United States vetoed a United Nations resolution Friday backed by almost all other Security Council members and dozens of other nations demanding an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza. Supporters called it a terrible day and warned of more civilian deaths and destruction as the war goes into its third month.

The excuses that Robert Wood, the U.S. deputy ambassador, gave for opposing the resolution added insult to injury. He said that a ceasefire would “only plant the seeds for the next war,” as if the continuation and intensification of the current war weren’t already doing that to a much greater extent. The resolution called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the unconditional and immediate release of all hostages, but the U.S. representative had the gall to call it “unbalanced.”

The U.S. objected that the process had been “rushed,” but speed is obviously crucial when there is a major humanitarian crisis that requires urgent attention. If the U.S. hadn’t shot down other Security Council resolutions on this conflict over the last two months, the situation would not be quite as far gone as it is. Wood claimed that the resolution was “divorced from reality,” but nothing could be more divorced from reality than an administration that is actively stoking the conflict while pretending that a ceasefire is bad for the cause of peace.

The resolution that the U.S. vetoed had the support of almost 100 other member states, including several major treaty allies. Vetoing this measure doesn’t just leave the U.S. isolated on the world stage, but it also confirms in the eyes of the world that our government is a rogue great power that cannot be trusted. In addition to being profoundly wrong in itself, this veto will do significant damage to our country’s reputation in the eyes of almost all other nations in the world. Agnes Callamard of Amnesty International summed it up well:

US veto of ceasefire resolution displays callous disregard for civilian suffering in face of staggering death toll. It is morally indefensible, a dereliction of the US duty to prevent atrocity crimes and a complete lack of global leadership. Just appalling.

“ but the U.S. representative had the gall to call it “unbalanced.”. Unbalanced?!

Once again the US government operates in alternative reality than the rest of the world and totally blind to the reality on the ground and is lying to itself.

Small wonder why Biden's approval ratings are at the lowest point in his three years at the White House.

Israel-Palestine war: Israel accused of staging footage of Palestinian man surrendering weapons
Video showing aluminium workshop owner in Gaza handing over guns called into question by disinformation expert

FAKE NEWS PHOTOGRAPH:

Israel's military has been accused of staging footage showing stripped Palestinian men handing over weapons in northern Gaza.

In a video shared on Saturday, scores of men wearing only their underwear are seen next to an Israeli tank holding up their identification cards.

One of the men proceeds to walk forward with his arms in the air in a surrendering motion, before placing at least one gun on the ground.

The Palestinian man in the video was identified as Moin Qeshta al-Masry, the owner of a local aluminium workshop. The video was taken in front of a United Nations-run school in Beit Lahia, north of Jabalia refugee camp.

In two separate clips shared online, Masry can be seen handing over a gun with his left hand, and then again with his right hand. An investigation by Al Jazeera's fact-checking unit found that it was two takes of the same video.

Marc Owen Jones, academic and commentator who writes extensively about online disinformation, posted a thread on X, formerly Twitter, suggesting Israeli troops temporarily armed a civilian for the purpose of a "photo shoot".

In the footage, an Israeli soldier can be heard telling Masry: "Grab the gun I gave you, don't shoot. Walk slowly, and leave it on the ground on the other side."

Jones also pointed out that it would appear illogical for Israeli troops to remove the clothes of the detainees while they were still armed.

A BBC Verified report suggested that both clips were part of the same continuous sequence, and three guns were handed over in total.

"I don't really understand the one continuous take argument. It seems to be splitting hairs," Jones told Middle East Eye.

"The fact is they seemed to be using him to fetch guns for the purpose of propaganda film. Obviously whether they reshot or filmed it continuously seems irrelevant."

The BBC report stated that Masry was being held at gunpoint and issued directions by Israeli officers, raising questions about whether he was "surrendering" weapons.

"Given he is already in his underwear and he cannot have been concealing them on his person, it's unlikely Israeli troops did not know about these weapons, suggesting this may be performed for the camera, rather than as an act of authentic surrender," the investigation added.

Journalists and aid workers detained
Last week, images and videos emerged showing Israeli troops detaining dozens of Palestinian men, stripping them of their clothes and forcing them to sit lined up on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs.

Israeli media suggested that the men were Palestinian fighters, but provided no evidence.

i24News, an Israeli broadcaster, said Saturday's video showed "another batch of Hamas jihadists surrendering to the IDF in Jabalia".

MEE obtained a list of full names, ages, and professions of 25 people among those arrested by Israel last week.

That list, as well as eyewitness accounts, indicate that those detained are academics, journalists, teachers at UN-run schools, school students, blue-collar workers, and employees with the Palestinian Authority.

Among the detainees were Darwish al-Gherbawi, 58, a school principal; Ahmed Akram Mohammed Lubbad, 35, a teacher; Youssef Khaled Mohammed Lubbad, 15, a student; Tamer Omar Surour, 35, a barber; Atiya Faye Lubbad, 43, a tailor; Ibrahim Abdul-Raouf Lubbad, 35, a computer engineer; and university students Abdullah Akram Lubbad, 19; Abdul-Rahman Abdul-Raouf Lubbad, 19; Hamza Jamil Lubbad, 19; and Jihad Abdul-Raouf Lubbad, 22.

On Thursday, Israel's broadcasting authority said that the Israeli military has jailed around 700 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and placed them in administrative detention since 7 October.

When Hamas takes non combatants it is said to be "kidnapping". When Israel does it it's called "detainees". As with the stories about children getting beheaded and imaginary tunnels, the Israeli propaganda myths are exposed for the lies they are.

Unless we had a set of triplets with the same hair cut it becomes impossible to believe any of these FAKE NEWS photos are real. IDF National Security Adviser Hanegbi says you will not see photos like these anymore as "they serve nobody’s interest". The reality, however, is because of the international backlash against this type of propaganda and the inhuman abuse of civilians.

LOL! Let's turn that around. Imagine someone being dumb enough to believe an overaged, overweight grandfather who runs a successful business and is well known in his community is going to be a gun toting "terrorist". The IDF in its stupidity made the mistake of using him as an example of someone engaging in "terrorism". When their propaganda is exposed they suddenly decide to stop using pics like this because the truth about their lies is readily discernible.

You continue to misconstrue my comment. Maybe die to your preferred “reality?”

But let me be more explicit: both Hamas and the IDF have revealed themselves. The whole world should “believe” them.

P.S. I say Hamas and IDF because they are the actors. Are there others deserving of opprobrium? Undoubtedly, but they have not revealed themselves fully, yet.

Phuk around and Find out.
Turkish lawmaker Hasan Bitmez collapses from a heart attack just seconds after saying Israel would "suffer the wrath of Allah."

The 53-year old lawmaker collapsed after giving his speech in the General Assembly Hall in Ankara, the Capital of Turkey.

"We can perhaps hide from our conscience but not from history... Israel will suffer the wrath of Allah," he said seconds before collapsing.

Israel’s ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, rejected ideas of a two-state solution and said Israel would not accept it as a prospect.

Bengie has said the same. I noted tgat at the beginning of the conflicf. It is all about taking the land. BTW sea water in the tunnels could make the land inhabitable.

Where else have we heard of mass rape, kidnapped children, murdered civilians? Ukraine. GOP which is the current residence of antisemitism in the USA including the potential presidential nominee registers off the scale on hypocrisy both on these issues and impeachment.

I think we can't really say that the GOP is the exclusive "residence of antisemitism" though I'd agree that Neo-nazi, white nationalists are no longer rejected by the GOP, so it would be fair to say that the MAGA GOP welcomes these right wing "America First" types. That became obvious in the 2016 campaign, Charlottesville, and then 2020.

But there's also a virulent left wing anti-semitism strain that is part of the Dem Party, though that strain is more about pro-Palestinian views than it is anti-semitism per se. But the strain is there too.

I quite agree re the hypocrisy though.

And yikes, I just watched the interview of the Israeli ambassador to the UK, and she was quite clear (love how hard the UK press is able to question) that the current Israeli right wing government is worlds apart from the US...the rift appears to be widening fast with the reporting on the "dumb bombs" being used and the new efforts to tie funding to commitments on how weapons will be used...and requiring the President to report on that...seems to me that provides cover to the Admin to pull back hard on funding this bombing campaign...
