:D well, kinda did... ;)
Though not of me personally.

Just my personal "old-school" opinion, certainly not important in any way.

Neal’s work/images have been part of Hopkins lacrosse for more than 50 years.

And that is a whole lot longer than the "official" image that looks like the Toronto Blue Jay (minus the maple leaf).

US Lacrosse's preseason AA list is out. Mazzone, honorable mention. No other Jays mentioned. Feel like Degnon might have a case, but gotta earn back some respect I guess.

Woof. Scott Smith is better than a bunch of the defensemen on that HM list. More fuel for the fire I guess.

Degnon would have a case as a midfielder but now that he's moved to attack, it's going to be harder to crack that group.

Not sure Ernie ever did social media stuff. Last year they hired Grayson Jons to do it, she also works with STX, USA Lax, and a few of the other lax media/content companies. She's great. Those drone shots of Homewood are awesome

Ahhh ok just assumed it was him but now that you mention I believe Joanna Ye did it in years past too. Anyway the content has been great. Hope they keep it up.

They woke up and realized their conference rivals and many out of conference ones were on national television all fall, winter and now may long and decided it was time to join 2023.

Given our schedule offensive players have to be superstars to win those kinds of honors and they have to be the reason we win as well. I think there's a better shot at those honors for defensive guys given who they go up against week to week and the amount of national coverage those matchups get. Those tuesday games especially for Smith et al.

You and I, as old geezers, probably prefer the blue and white panels... ;)
Wouldn't work in todays helmets.

For me, hearkening to whatever traditions plays to the Hop legacy, but of course it's really about what the players like, not us.

I agree re the cartoon, though I think for a t-shirt etc it's fun.

When I first saw the cartoon jay (April 17, 2016), I thought it looked kinda silly. Now that I understand the history of it, I think that it looks whimsical, traditional and kinda silly... no, it just doesn't look traditional, sorry.

Just to clarify, MD, while you are indeed an “old geezer,” BlueJaySince1947 is part of classical antiquity.

I enjoy reading both of your posts. However, 1947’s posts are truly special because, well, there may not be anyone else around who was alive during some of the events that he witnessed in person.

Learning of 1947’s existence was a bit like:

—Learning that the USS Constitution (launched in 1797) is still seaworthy and in active service;

https://www.history.navy.mil/browse-by- ... state.html

—Reading about a nearly 1,500 year old Japanese construction company, Kongo Gumi (possibly founded by three Korean carpenters in 578 AD), is still in business; or

https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Compan ... succession

—Hearing that a grandson of 19th-century president John Tyler (1841-1845) is still alive.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Ruffin_Tyler

In other words, BJS1947 shouldn’t exist, but he does!

Can’t beat that. Indeed, the half-century old cartoon Blue Jay is a Spring youngster by comparison.

DocBarrister ;)

It really is such a shame that the play on the field that night was so god awful and maybe some people just want to let that outfit die along with the memory.

I wish this was a look they would've got in the habit of repeating.

Was that the night that Maryland abused Enright and Kelly with the 2 man game?

No - Kelly not on field - It was the game that on one of Maryland's goals Enright tripped on the back of the goal and completely turned it over. It was a defensive struggle - Hopkins looked OK up 6-3 halfway through the 3rd - lost 9-6. Neither team hit 30 shots - Bassett had 2 saves over 45 minutes after standing on his head at the beginning of the 1st. Hopkins out ground balled despite winning 14 of 19 face-offs and turned the ball over 16 times. I didn't think they could play any worse - then I saw the Navy game (and the 2nd Maryland game).

Yeah it was 2012 the wheels just completely fell off the bus after Boland opened the scoring in the second half.

Bill Belichick and John Harbaugh were both on the Hopkins sideline that night. Harbaugh was kind enough to chat with students and take a few photos. Belichick had absolutely zero interest.
