Last week of fall ball for the Spartans. what is everyone looking for when they play on Saturday? What's the most significant question mark in your opinion?

who replaces Kennedy and Smith on defense?
what does the offense look like with the new pieces?
How many freshmen get a look?

I’ve got questions all over the field.

Here’s what I feel is likely so far.

Attack:
Mayer
Harnick
?

Defense:
Blackmon
?
?

Midfield:
Grayson
?
?

FO:
Facciponti

LSM:
Greene

Goalie:
?

If anyone can put some numbers to those question marks with any degree of accuracy, that would be swell.

I’m tempted to put Burbank in that third attack spot, but I’m just not ready to yet with the other experienced players available. He has never played a single game of college lacrosse and is coming off a season long injury.

So my biggest interests for the coming scrimmages are the attack unit, and the goalie play.

14-Wilhelm at midfield.

Ok. So he was one of the experienced players, who had previous success at attack, that was keeping me from theoretically placing Burbank there.

With him up at midfield I feel more confident on Burbank getting that third attack spot.

Mayer
Harnick
Burbank

I would imagine that Clark will also play middie

All open questions, as they are losing 6 who were AA (5 were repeat AA), and 5 of whom were 1st team All Mac and one 2nd team All Mac. So there are many shoes to fill but i am Interested to see how they fill the middie spots. Wilhelm and Clark will be there with Grayson, but they lost Wolf (USILA 3rd team AA and 1st team All MAC), Ranck (USILA HM AA and 1st team All MAC), Reynolds (long time team leader) and Meringer (huge contributions and particularly against CNU).

I do think that there is some depth at the midfield position but, you are correct that losing Wolf and Ranck are big losses, Marenger to a lesser extent. If they can find a competent 3rd attackman (Burbank, Russo, Townsend, or one of the freshmen) it will allow both Clark and Wilhelm to play middie. The depth at midfield is generally younger, I have heard that Kazella (Freshman) is going to be hard to keep off the field and that the VMI transfer Palheoki(sp) has also looked good as well as Sophomores McCarver and Almond. Also hearing that Facciponti may get some run on offense now that they have 3 other fogo's.

It is hard for me to expect much out of kids who have been injured (Burbank) but when he was healthy last year he looked good. The same can be said about the VMI transfer who is working his way back from injury as well as the Sophomore goalie.

Defense may look like 18 - Briegel and 35- Biava to begin with then a rotation. 42- Hull will probably get the first look as Greene's back up but 10 and 77 are both fighting for time as well

this is all based on the alumni game and reports I get from practice.

Nice day for scrimmages. I believe that Lynchburg and Dickinson were missing several kids but here are the scores.

Game 1 7-6 Dickinson over Lynchburg
Game 2 22-10 York over Dickinson
Game 3 14-9 York over Lynchburg

York looked faster in both games. I heard Dickenson was missing a top offensive player and fogo. I noticed Lynchburg had about 10 injured on the sidelines.

Looked like they rotated 7 or 8 at midfield the first half of both games. Lots of rotations with the top 6 mixing it up. The entire bench got in both games in the second half. Same 3 attack and top 3 middies started both games.

EMO looked good, I think they scored on each opportunity

York looked good. The Lynchburg game besides mid field I’m not sure either team played many starters after the first quarter and that was sparingly on both sides. Both were playing their second game. Lynchburg did not start their only returning attack in an the first quarter. He came in about the 8 minute mark. York was up 4-0 after 1. Lynchburg has a lot of injured DMs. Lost one against Dickinson possible MCL/ACL and lost 2nd LSM to a concussion on an old school hit.

With that being said, York looks good. Should have a good season. Mayer vs Zingo was a good matchup and I personally thought Zingo got the best him, but was fun to watch.

Just glad to get to watch some lacrosse in October.

Looks like another big recruiting class.

16 so far from the 2023 class. 4 from Texas/west coast

7 attack (6 lefty)
4 middies (2 are D-middies)
3 long poles
1 goalie
1 fogo

Unless some seniors stay, I count 12 seniors and grads on the roster that will graduate. Roster keeps getting larger.

Per Instagram. Another 23 from west of Texas (Colorado). Up to 17 in this class. Trying to compete with RIT roster size of 57 last season.

It will be interesting to see how he handles the roster. as it sits now he is at 51, I think he would like it a little smaller (48) but if everyone leaves and all 17 come in that would make the roster next year 56, if there are no other losses, but the reality is that there will always be losses and kids who leave or stop playing. I believe that this happened to them with fogo's when they were down to 1 fogo a couple of years ago. This is a very diverse recruiting list and I am sure that is a reflection of the success of the team and of the hard work of the staff.

That’s too bad. I think he was a D-middie? Seems like the last two recruiting class were more offensive focused.
I would expect more to switch or leave the team. York is transitioning from a good team, to an elite team. It is drawing more attention from kids that could either go mid/low level D1 or top level D3. But I think many kids that look at D3, assume they will get playing time early, vs sitting on the bench at the mid level D1 team. I think when they get there, and see how talented they team is, some will realize they might not be getting the instant playing time. Many kids coming to York were studs on their HS team. It will be tough for some to accept reality. Maybe this is normal. Considering each class gets smaller as you look at the roster
