I think a lot of the upgrades are because kids committed to certain school. And what club team they come from.

or...they continue to advance in maturity and performance, as shown against competition?

Seriously, you think these upgrades are because they committed to Dartmouth? color me skeptical on that...man, we wish that our brand meant that much, but sure seems far fetched to me at this point. ;)

Did these youngsters switch club teams and suddenly get more recognition?

Or did they show well against more competition and over a longer period of time?

I'm not in any way suggesting that IL's star system or rankings is accurate or predictive of future success, I just don't think we have any basis to think an upgrade hasn't been earned by more times being seen actually perform well. Undoubtedly other players are missed, because these observations can be relatively short.

We need some "3"s to turn into 4's in college and a 4 here or there turning into a 5 in college. What happens prior is not terribly important, but positive trajectories are nice to see nevertheless.

Agreed. Upgrades for a Dartmouth commitment definitely seems farfetched at this point. Hopefully in the future.

Or... How much $$$ they paid for the ranking?

I think it is probably a little bit of where they committed and a little bit of how they played this summer.

I presume 2025 recruiting is almost done, and in that spirit, here are updated video links for the current 2025 HS grad class. 9 of the 12 have updated film from 2024 play.

Yesterday the Big Green received their first '26 commit: Blake Farnsworth, an IL four-star LSM/defenseman (STAB, Team 91 LI). Not a physically imposing player but one who looks to have a high motor and be good on GBs and in transition. Given his sub-six foot size he likely projects to play LSM in college as he does in HS. https://youtu.be/5dB8eZS2nrs?si=_-w_G0U3lXQzy6M9

'25 defenseman Cole Meyer (Exeter, NH Tomahawks) committed to Dartmouth on 7/2 as part of the Class of '30, so we can expect him to PG next school year. https://youtu.be/ZzaLxC1Z6wI?si=MAPhRK-q02JsWAiW

Program elevating get for the Big Green with the commitment of Milki Conway-Reppert. Top 20 overall IL recruit at a position (Attack) that Dartmouth has historically struggled to recruit blue-chip talent in. Kirwan and the rest of the staff are clearly doing the right things on the recruiting circuit. You have to think the additions of Matt Whitcher and Ajax Zappitello have not only bolstered Dartmouth's ability to develop players when they step foot on campus, but also creates a tangible avenue for players to progress into the professional ranks down the line. That, combined with Dartmouth's innately attractive qualities, leads to better recruiting, better culture, and hopefully more W's down the line. Exciting stuff happening in the woods.

Exciting indeed. Agree wholeheartedly that Kirwan and Co. have been able to get consideration from the type of high-level recruit who has not paid much if any attention to Dartmouth in the past. Stu Gates is one from the '25 class who falls into this bucket as well. We shall see if Whitcher and Ajax create a path to the pro ranks. Honestly that would be gravy and likely isn't a focus of the players but wouldn't it be nice to have that level of talent on the roster?!

IL three-star FOGO Quinn Frood (Cannon School, Team 91 Charlotte) also announced his commitment to the Big Green today.

An explosive-shooting MA middy has just committed to Dartmouth. IL 3 Star James Strik https://youtu.be/frefg5SDVso?feature=shared

Clearly the current regime is raising the bar for recruits. They committed 4 Star Tyler Juhlin in 8/2023, then committed a 2025 class with five 4 Star players, and six 3 stars. This year, they have committed a 5 Star, two 4 Stars and two 3 Star in 19days.

Terry Foy agrees,
Adding Conway-Reppert and Frood moved Dartmouth’s class up to 16th in IL’s 2026 Class Rankings on Monday, furthering a steady climb over the last five classes. The Big Green’s recruiting classes ranked No. 58 for the 2022s, 49th with the ’23s, 21st with the ’24s and 19th with the ’25s.
