Why is this game in Cary NC in a soccer stadium and starting at 3pm ET?? This is an incredible sport, these women are incredible athletes, the action is amazing - we need more exposure !!

Florida is going play a lot of physically demanding defense. So its offense needs to give their D a breath whenever they have the ball and no fast or slow break opportunities are present. Play efficiently, stay out of the box, keep it close.

And you can bank it that most of the 50/50 calls will go NU's way.

Northwestern should have called a TO when Laliberty had possession of the ball outside the crease while a player down. Cost them a goal. And Lalibery got hurt on the play.

Start selling out and filling those soccer stadiums and you’ll get more exposure.

You can’t call timeout every time the goalie comes out of the crease. You won’t have any left. She just needs to protect the ball better in that situation. Florida will hound her every time the rest of the game if she’s forced out of the crease.

Is there an 8-meter shot that doesn't involve NU No. 4 fouling the ball carrier?

Goal circle violation. Another one. Pet peeve of mine that it’s simply not called enough. And oh, by the way, there is no such rule as “pushed into the crease.” Made up by the refs.

Edit to add: on the previous goal, the Florida player’s stick was in the circle before she released the ball. That’s a violation. After she shot, her body entered the cylinder even though she didn’t touch the two Dimensional Goal Circle. That’s also a violation.

Respectfully, it cannot work that way. Otherwise KAH's kids would shove every player with the ball into the goal circle. Hansen puts her stick and should on the ball carrier's back and propels her into the circle. Either it's a goal, or a mulligan.

Although the rulebook is poorly written, there is language that could be interpreted to wave off the goal circle foul if the attacker is actually fouled. But incidental contact is not a foul.

You make a good argument to change the wording of the rule, but that’s not what the rule says. I would be OK with a “but for” test. “But for” the contact, would the ball carrier have gone into the goal circle? But in this day and age, you see attackers running 1,000,000 miles an hour at the goal cage. No way would they have not gone into the circle. You actually see some teams now pulling back and not defending the ball carrier at the last minute because they know she is going to go into the circle.

Goal circle violations used to never be called. At least they are getting called some of the time now. Still not enough.

Understood, and reasonable. Here, however, NU No. 4's assignment is to effectively tackle the carrier.
