If the rules weren’t mangled and deformed then yes. But under the hood we know there’s communication, analysis and research done long before the day-especially with the rise of club sports in general and with lacrosse specific.

But also it’s the closest thing an axiom can be without being a “law” that situations move to the rule. Like when price floors and caps end up being the price ultimately for subject items/services. Game theory/Monte Carlo simulation stuff, of course the best kids and eventually the top 200-250 (out of what like 1,000 new D1 kids each year) will be signing within a week of the date.
it won't be. it might be 18 or 12 or 34 but it won't be 200-250.
2 weeks, 3 weeks there'll be some numbers piling in bit not close to that.

but also to youth... what's not talked about very frequently is fit and getting the guys that u want. you can't tell that from 10-20% of their best plays/games plus their promoter and kids can't tell the best place in a couple short convos.

obv there will be a superficiality to everything for whatever length of time, but pulling the trigger on hoo you want to be your guys (especially when you have some hand) in a couple of days is ridiculous. imo. and we can not crazily infer that offers are going out in 1st convo.
I was talking eventually if that wasn’t clear on the numbers. More will get into the same system and routine and it’ll ramp up. Same happened w early recruiting. One school does it then two then all the sudden Quinnipiac and RoMo were committing kids as Sophs in HS.

But also that was my point that the Sept 2 date is clearly being violated on the reg. So I presume they’ve spent a lot more time with the kids than we know. Any professional at the top of a sector would do that type of DD. If not they shouldn’t be a D1 HC.
I think the way there's 'some' additional 'contact' is through camps. Not supposed to talk directly about coming to their school, but a college coach can 'coach' a kid at a camp and get a feel for how they respond to that interaction and with teammates, etc.

Unfortunately, the bulk of the 'camp' stuff is more about the $ than actually evaluating...but that's the game.

But I doubt there's much, if any, actual violation of the rules by the coaches...at least for the more desirable locations, it's not necessary and the downside would be large.

Well look then it’s not even a rhetorical question to ask if it’s a bad idea or strange to make a four year commitment to a program that’s even built by a coach his staff and many other kids on little or no interaction. Of course that’s stupid and any success derived from that path is pure luck or a coach born on third base.

To your other point commitments have so little meaning these days why not.

Point was not whether it’s a good idea with little engagement to commit, should be noted I’d worry about a kid committing without the same evaluation, but whether it’s logical that eventually everyone will race to that date over time. In that regard this is precisely what I’d expect.

I think what it really means, is that they where likely already recruited before the allowable day.
Duenkel brother is on the football team and their father is an alumni so not a surprise
The Michigan commit believe his older brother is also a commit to Michigan so again not a surprise
Yep. I would have been surprised had Duenkel landed somewhere else.

People said that about Duke 3 years ago. Brennan O’Neills career is halfway over and he’s never been a 1st Team AA and the Blue Devils missed the NCAA tournament last year.

It's amazing how many kids work their ass off, to then pick a school to sit on the side lines.
Ryan Cosley 4 star freshmen attack lefty
Truitt Sunderland 5 star freshmen attack righty
Thomas Meneke 4 star soph attack lefty ( did not see field last year injury?)
Griffin Shlutz 5 star soph attack righty
Shellenberger Junior
2023 incoming
Mccabe 5 star
chase band 4 star

2024 incoming
Duenkel
Kyle Cosley
Sean Browne

They all play attack, and will be on roster together minus Shellenberger in 2 years, so we have 9 guys for 3 spots. would you want to be a middie and commit to Virginia.

schutz has been a middie more than attack (including h.s.), mencke is a redshirted-freshie but no injury. hoos have fewer guys on the sidelines than many or most teams, who carry 50+.

are you saying those guys don't matter at other schools, or that they don't work as hard? or are stupider?

The best players want to play at the highest level and win championships. If their personality was the type to shy away from competition then they probably were never going to be that great in college anyways, regardless of talent.

schutz has only ever played attack for his club team thus far. i haven't the faintest idea where he'd be happier. he earned a lot of pt his freshman year. usually how it works.

The surprising thing to me is not necessarily the number of possible UVA attackmen, but 3 years in a row they are bringing in a VERY highly rated attackman who seems to fit the role of an X attackman. I liked Tucker Mullen a lot, so I could maybe say 4 years in a row with Mullen, Sunderland, Millon and Duenkel. I haven't seen enough of Colsey, Band or Browne to say how their games fits with what UVA has been doing offensively. BUT, UVA has had success with 2 very good ball handlers on attack lately with Shellenberger and Moore. A couple PLL teams have gone that way as well, specifically the Waterdogs with Sowers and McArdle and the Whipsnakes with Rambo and Zed Williams. From my eyes, it seems to help offensive spacing two have 2 capable dodgers at attack, because the front of the goal can get really congested and having attackman who can be dangerous when behind the goal can put extra pressure on the defense by spreading them out more. Conversely, watching the Archers play offense with only Grant Ament behind the goal, the front of the goal gets really congested with Holman, Manny and their midfielders. They recently moved Manny to midfield and put Connor Fields at attack and had some success with that. The best Syracuse teams of the 2000's had 2 good dodging attackmen, like Powell and Coffman, Leveille and Nims. Yale's great teams recently had Reeves and Morrill, then Morrill and Brandau.

The game has changed and Lars with it. At Virginia, they start 6, mostly interchangeable, offensive players plus needs at 2nd midfield and subs. Several middies can invert and several attackmen can play a midfield role up top. It becomes, intentionally, very difficult to defend. The idea of pigeon holing players, only at attack or only at midfield, is over for many teams. So it’s a fallacy to say all these great atackmen are competing for 3 spots…..There also aren’t shoe contracts after college. Kids need to go where they will be happiest at a school whether playing or not.

So you are saying Schutz is happy playing middie? what I am saying I am sure you also have big time recruits at middie position, some five star recruits might not play for a couple of years.
and army has 66 guys on their roster. 66!!! there are some 3 and 4 star recruits that may never see the field. are you saving your outrage for that?

schutz has only ever played attack for his club team thus far. i haven't the faintest idea where he'd be happier. he earned a lot of pt his freshman year. usually how it works.
I only know Shellenberger talent wise, just asking does McCabe start on attack next year?
