who is the IL 4 star recruit?

Porter Lewis. I know this will surprise you, IL's list is both wrong (listed players who are not coming to VMI) and incomplete (missing at least 6 players from my count). If you look at the archived Salisbury commitments from last year you will see him IL rated at 4 stars coming out of St. Chris.

Not hitting IL though, they are dependent on information that is difficult for them to verify.
This kid who’s got USMA next to his name? Looks like he also was committed to Furman at one point.

https://mobile.twitter.com/porterlewis9?lang=en
Yes, USMA in 2016 which would have been his freshman year if I count correctly. Pretty sure this year was the last or next to last of the ERs.

(As a USNA grad, why they allow commitments to Service Academies before they have at least nominations is not right (or at least should have an asterisk)(for perspective USNA acceptance rate is 8%, same as Dartmouth & Duke)...but I digress.

Next was Furman, which disappeared as you know.

Next was Salisbury and he did get some playing time which is respectable given Salisbury's proclivity to playing older players (no judgment, seems to work).

Now VMI. Do not believe playing time will be an issue if he is as good as advertised. Rat Line started Saturday so good luck to class 2022 + 3.

If he got decent PT at Sals he’s probably going to see the girls for you but it kind of looks like the 4 star may be a little be of an inflated grade given how it went down for him.

Didn't mean to stir the pot, IL is honestly the only publication I know does the star system so I figured someone had based the comment off that database.

I apologize for derailing the conversation

Let’s just hope everyone on the team is ready to take a step forward. Many great players never had any stars but even 5 star kids had to work hard in college to excel. That’s all the kids at VMI need to worry about, working until their hands bleed in practice and playing through the last whistle .

Nice podcast with Coach Purpura. Recruiting, challenges, personal growth and lacrosse offense/defense trends. Worth the listen even if not a VMI follower.

For your longer range schedule, looks like January 29th is the date shaping up for Navy/VMI scrimmage at UVA. Time and other details TBD.

22 of 24 recruits made it through hell week. Pretty good considering many did not even visit the campus before they arrived.

Met parents and player last night. Quite pleasant.

VMI will improve this year for three reasons.

1. Continuity of coaching staff/systems.
2. Addition by subtraction.
3. Highest rated incoming players are in highest need areas.

Yes this is VMI and yes there are many needs but from where they were 4 years ago to where they are today is quite the improvement. Of course it needs to be reflected in W/L’s.
Wasn’t there a fan a year or two back angry the middie from Tx took too many shots but he ended up doing pretty well?
Too many Bloody Marys too early?

Great Alumni/Keydets game last night. Perfect weather. Great tailgate. Lots of playing time for rats and many stepped up. Seems each year recruiting brings in better players and this year there is better and more than usual. Especially in positions of need. Go Keydets.

Good article I guess. Would like some mention of incoming players like they do for other teams but I guess that will come if we win more.

Have JHU fans/Alumni fallen that low that they now troll VMI pages?

It was a tale of two different half’s. First half, which ended with VMI leading 9-4, was not even as close as the score. VMI dominated FO’s and time of possession. Most goals were scored on individual breakdowns from on top. Several people scored (Jordan, Ridley, etc.) Very few unforced TO’s which usually plague VMI so hats off to staff having team ready to play at the whistle.

GK Jack Liselli played spirited in the crease and made several spectacular saves, this was countered by the Navy goalie appearing to not pick up the ball well.

I do not believe there was a penalty in the first half but the game was starting to get chippy as it wore on. The referees called a good game in my opinion and allowed a physical but clean game.

The second half VMI changed FOGOs, GK, and many other players while Navy appeared to keep basically the same players. Remember Navy had already split their team for one half VS VMI and the other half VS UVA. Multiple USNA parents told me at the pre-game (hey, I am a USNA grad so I felt no problem going to their tent) the team split was not starters vs non-starters so not knowing any better I will take it at their word.

In the second half Navy won basically every FO and continued to run weak side screens to free up cutters that our defense was having difficulty sliding in time. Maybe it was due to first game, or many rats getting time, or packages not used to each other or more likely Navy was just better than our second/third strings. Our offense rarely saw the ball in the second half.

So in summary each team can walk away with both positives and things to work on. Most likely exactly what each coach wanted.

Don’t forget tomorrow VMI scrimmages W&L so we will see what, if any changes are made.

not sure what this means... what kind of rosters/subs did Navy run for the scrimmages? Sounds like you are suggesting that they had two different teams for the UVA and VMI scrimmages, and that neither roster included a disproportionate amount of (predicted) starters - is that right?
