Maryland loses at least Bernhardt, Grill, Brown, Holden, maybe DeMaio
Hop loses Williams, Lyne (?)
PSU loses O'Keefe, Arceri, Foulds, Cardile, Kneese
OSU loses LeClaire, Terefenko, Henrick, Wenz
Rutgers loses Charalambides, Mullins, Kirst 1, Kirst 2
Mich loses Myers, Papa, while Buckanavage and Mack are transferring (neither played much in '21)

Hopkins and Michigan appear to lose the least amount of talent from their 2021 teams. According to IL, Maryland brings in the best freshman class, followed by PSU, OSU, Mich, Hop, and then Rutgers.

This would be my pre-transfer shot-in-the-dark ranking of the six teams headed into next year. I reserve the right to change this several times prior to January 2022:

1. Maryland
2. Hopkins
3. Michigan
4. Penn State
5. Rutgers
6. Ohio State

There is not much separating 2-6, IMO.

You sure Rutgers loses “all” those players. Hmm
They have no eligibility left so yes they do. Well, Chams has a year left technically but has said he won’t use it.

I guess Kirst (the goalie) technically does too as he barely played at Lehigh, but the Rutgers fans here were saying he's not coming back. I was just going off what they said.

Even if Colin Kirst comes back, I don't think I'd change their ranking (pending transfers).

This was Colin’s 5th year of college lax so it seems that he should be out of eligibility, irrespective of how much he played at Lehigh. He wasn’t red shirted so all of those years count. Maybe if he transfers to Denver....

In that case, no clue who Houndfan is referring to. Did Chams change his mind?

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there are many elite FOGOs in the portal right now...maybe the kid from Hobart who was >60% though he faced pretty weak competition.

If we're speculating, Connor Morin of Notre Dame is in the portal and a NJ native, could help fill a bit of the void left by Chams/Mullins/Kirst. Talented kid but didn't play much for Corrigan.
I agree here...Dugenio really helped in spots, I actually like him...he was a massive upgrade over where RU was in 2020/2019...but they still need to be better...getting someone else would be a plus here

As I stated in a previous post...I don't think RU will win the conference or be in the 1 or 2 spot...but I'm also not ready to put them in the 5-6 spot either...IMO

They have a HUGE void to fill at attack/scoring and maybe that never happens...but I do agree that Brecht will be a heavy portal player and will find a few guys...and how that turns out...well we just have to wait and see...

I love a couple of their guys in the middle of the field (rope unit) and defensively they bring back some nice pieces...but you gotta score...

We will see...maybe I am wrong...wouldn't be the first time...

He did not play his last year at Lehigh. So couldn’t he still have a year? Don’t you get 5 years to play your4 years of eligibility plus he gets a COVID year?

You have to apply for a redshirt. If he just didn’t play because he was on the bench that doesn’t count. That would have been something he’d have to have done at Lehigh and I doubt it.

last year was the freebie. if you played in any games/scrimmages, they don't count toward your 4. he played in games in years 2017, 18 and 19. so unless:
-- he suffered a year-ending injury in the front half of the schedule in either of the 2 of those years he played in < 30% of their games
-- then requested a medical redshirt

... '21 was his fourth year. it doesn't matter that he didn't play in '20, as everyone got a free pass.

If a freshman in 2020 took a red shirt year do they get a covid year and a red-shirt year ?..... 6 years .. or does the
Covid/ redshirt year count one in the same..

No, a redshirt year would not count as one of your 4 years assuming you declared it and played in <30% of teams games. You do NOT get a redshirt year just for not playing much because you are on the bench, only for injury. Unless I am missing something, I think wdgsr is right. He has now played 4 years of lax. Last year (2020) would have been his 4th but he got the COVID freebie. As far as I know, even in the messed up situation the NCAA has created, there is no loophole to play a 5th full season.

Don’t know about that. Would have had to declare a redshirt before the shutdown. It is two separate questions as to how many seasons you can play in and how many years you are allowed to spread those playing seasons over.

same. at uva for instance, shellenberger was planning on taking a redshirt unless they needed him, and by game 6 that was probably by the boards.
he has 3 years left now.

cormier took a medical in 2019, played in '20, but that was a freebie. he still has 3 years.

but no one actually took a redshirt year in '20, as the season was cancelled and eligibility restored.

however, if you took a redshirt prior to 2020, you get 6 to play 4 (see -- cormier (medical), rehfuss (non-medical). you can also take multiple medicals (charalambides) but only one non-medical in division 1.

Don’t think it’s been decided one way or another. Probably been discussed amongst coaches but I doubt we hear anything on it for awhile

But, this year's play in was a separate weekend. I doubt the coaches are all that jazzed up to lose an entire weekend of play to account for a play-in. Now, if they play during the week, that is another story. Though I am sure the coaches would find something to complain about.

I have no idea what the coaches will decide or think about the whole thing. I’m sure in some ways the 5th and 6th placed teams will want a shot at making the tournament so they have more of a chance at making the NCAA Tournament.

From what I know, Chara, Mullens, and the two Kirsts are out of eligibility. They all used their COVID year this year. Unless you know something?
