One of my favorite cat sites is found on Facebook and called Pokeypotpie’s School for Wayward Kittens. It’s a couple from Washington DC that have been fostering kittens since 2010. They have fostered over 100 cats with a 95% success rate for adoption. The other 5% have become family members. Jen and her husband Ian have created a site loaded with humor and touching stories. The resident cats: Hagrid, Dora, Pokeypotpie, Boop and blind brother Bop are all characters. There’s always new fosters coming and going.

Last April I lost my boy. See story in initial post. We wanted to wait until after last summer to find another as we really miss the presence of a fur friend. Last June’s we were casually looking about and discovered that if we had any interest you pretty much had to make a decision right away or they would likely be gone upon a second visit. I can’t just adopt a cat like buying a head of cabbage, but wanting a second visit resulted in losing out.

Then one day we stopped by the Erie Co. SPCA to look. The cats are kept in various rooms that look like office cubicles with windows and doors. We looked into one room that had clipboards for three cats but only could see two. As soon as we entered the room I locked in to a pair of bright green eyes that were hiding under a bench. Once I entered and kneeled down she came right to me. I then picked her up and put her on the bench between us. She became very comfortable and it was clear she chose us. Fifteen minutes later she was on her way to her forever home.

We had found out that she (age 5) and another cat from that room were found abandoned in an apartment were their elderly owner had passed away. They surmised that they had been left on their own for awhile. The now named Twiggy entered as a very shy cat has now blossomed into a sweet, affectionate, talkative girl. A great addition to our home.
