I’m impressed by Denison! After 7 hour bus ride they find themselves down 8-4 at half on the road to a top 15 team, faced 30 shots and are 0-14 in face offs! And don’t just not quit ... they find a way to win the game! Say what you want but that takes heart ... and plenty of it!

Probs couldn’t feel their fingers at the end so maybe give both team a pass on the sloppy front. But hey SJF scored just 1 goal after halftime! Gotta give some love to the Big Red D and the goalie! Never gave up!SixBySix wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 5:57 pm Tuned in for the 4th quarter and now overtime--can't say either team has looked too impressive. Lots of indecisive dodging, poor shots, and a handful of ugly turnovers both ways.
SJF is going to have some very bummed offensive players if they don't pull this out after missing three layups in OT.
This was a game of 2 halves and DU was just that much better in the half they won. Still winning only 3 of 24 FOs ... that ain’t going to get it done if the Big Red are going to make any noise this year!

Sometimes a great goalkeeper trumps a great face-off man. Great FEBRUARY game for two teams who will dominate their leagues.

Re: SJF vs. Denison Tues Feb 25th
Had this one on my early season watch list. Enjoyed the strong season SJF had last year.
It is clear that the Empire 8 is not a strong conference especially after Stevens left for the MAC. But, I'm impressed with SJF using their solid 2019 finish to bolster their non-league schedule this year. Definite improvements by dropping Potsdam, Wooster, Brockport…keeping RIT… and then adding Ithaca, Denison, and Union.
SJF came out strong dominating the First Half Stat line (SJF/Denison): 8/4 G’s, 30/13 Shots, 15/7 SOG, 14/0 FO’s, 26/8 GB’s, 9/7 TO’s, 3/7 SV’s. If not for Reeves' 6 Saves in the first quarter (he had 12 on the day), Denison could have had a much larger deficit to overcome in the second half.
But as some have already said, there were 60+ minutes to this one.
Second half, Denison made some good adjustments on defense that limited clean touches for SJF’s play maker (#2). As a result, SJF’s offense was much less organized leading to only one goal the rest of the day. Denison did improve at the faceoff X with 3 draws but still finished a paltry 3 of 24. SJF's 14 second half turnovers, has to have them shaking their heads.
Before the first whistle, I wouldn't have been surprised with a close game, but after watching this one, Denison was fortunate to come away with the W. Second game of the season, neither team looked sharp, tons of room for improvement for both teams.

With all due respect it was more than simply limiting clean touches for SJFs #2 ... it was just playing better lacrosse across the board .....Fast Break wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 8:28 pm

2nd half (+6min of OT) stats bear that out ....
(Denison / SJF) 6/1 Gs, 23/16 Shots, 13/6 SOG, 3/7 FO’s, 18/16 GB’s, 6/14 TO’s, 5/7 SV’s
Denison’s turned the game around by playing better lacrosse across the board once they got their feet under them. That took them a little time ... 1.5 quarters actually because from 7:30 of the 2nd Q Denison outscored SJF 8-2. Denison just started playing more like Denison.
BTW that goal SJF #2 scored with 5 seconds before the half was “a big boy goal”! That was an impressive individual effort!

SJF was successful in cutting off Big Red's big scorer Pitroff - accounting for no goals and just two assists. I noticed in the last five minutes and in the OT, he was covered like a blanket by a very talented short-stick middie - #25.
Re: SJF vs. Denison Tues Feb 25th
#32 was covering Pitroff, had a CTO against him. Then after halftime they switched it up. SJF has 4 senior starters on D, #24 and two poles #32 and #38 plus the goalie. They played very well considering the offense couldn't turn it over fast enough.oldtimelax wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 7:56 am SJF was successful in cutting off Big Red's big scorer Pitroff - accounting for no goals and just two assists. oops #25 not #24. #24 is a Fogo he's a junior.
