Swiss,
Yeah only difference between C2C and United East is that more lacrosse playing schools in UE. Also less travel, believe it or not, for other sports, than in the C2C.

IMO, SMCM will not be in this conference very long. It is not a draw (to attract student-athletes), it makes little sense without the AQ, and the travel stinks for both SMCM and the NY schools.

The NEAC got an AQ pre-Covid (Morrisville was the AQ in 2019), but did not last year, and does not this year as the United East.

Cabrini and Stevenson used the model of being in a weak conference to almost "guarantee" an AQ, and then you ramp-up the OOC schedule for NCAA prep.

SMC would be smart to do that. Even if it meant travel. Unfortunately, this conference doesn't seem to have an AQ for some reason, and I highly doubt SMC would choose a sports conference for lax-considerations only. I too think this conference is a short-term home for the Seahawks.

Conference affiliation has been an issue for SMC for years. Especially after the old CAC fell apart.

As a public honors college, and with the high academic standards, they would probably fit best school-profile-wise in the Centennial. But they are public...so it ain't happening. The other smart solution competition and location-wise would be the MAC. But I think that would have happened already if it was allowed or feasible.

Landmark would've also been a good fit for SMCM, but I presume the same factors apply as with the CC?

In this situation it seems the NCAA has eliminated the AQ due to strength, or lack thereof, in conference.

Again, I beg the question, why enter the conference if no AQ? But, this is not all about lacrosse for SMCM. Other school sports factor into the equation and decision-making.

Tough situation for SMCM, especially the men's lacrosse program. I feel for the student-athletes, parents, and coaches.

Lack of strength shouldn't be an issue. Some BAD conferences get AQs.

More likely a lack of paperwork follow-through, missed deadlines, or poor timing on membership numbers on the conference's part.

Agree with you Kramerica, but I think that is the case here...at least that is what I have heard thru connections on the NCAA decision makers.

Again, I feel bad for the players as they are having a helluva season so far. Coach has put together a decent OOC schedule...not as strong as last season though.

Might be something the SMC recruits want to know.

Looking at some of the teams that are ranked in the region, Based upon their record alone, I could see the NCAA committee making SMCM a "quality win" and regionally ranking them by the end of the season.

But not ranked high, so they are still probably a VERY long shot to get an NCAA at-large invite, unless they somehow can go at least 9-1 the rest of the way and beat on of those top teams like Dickinson or SU. Then they could potentially be in the hunt. So probably not happening.

Still, a conference championship, and perhaps the highest season win total EVER is still something to go for and be proud of.

Good luck Seahawks.

Is Pool B even a thing anymore?

Who else doesnt have an AQ that would compete for a Pool B bid? Colorado College, Whittier, anyone else?

Agree with Kramerica, the Seahawks just need to take care of business, and play for the conference tournament championship, which they will now have to travel back up to Morrisville for most likely. The rest will take care of itself...control the controllables. Let the pundits make prognostications.

Congrats to Jude Brown (John Carroll School, MD) for breaking the school's all-time assists record at St. Mary's, previously held by SMCM HoF-er, Dave Mueller '06 (North County HS). Especially impressive that he did it with a much-shortened '20 Covid season.

Kramerica,
Jude deserves all the accolades. He's earned it! The young man is fearless on the field. Where there is risk there is often reward. He is the engine that makes the Seahawks soar! Kudos on a great career, and I'd love to see him get a chance at a D1 program since he has extra eligibility.
