Thus far, three new fantasy coaches and one coach (who has been with us for many years) may be ducking out. Net of +2 coaches.

Last season, our Coach-to-NCAA-Team ratio was 20-to-24 or 5-to-6. With 22 coaches, we'd probably add 2 new NCAA teams. Something like that. But let's see how the numbers play out.

It looks like we have all 20 coaches back and we have 5 (possibly 6) new coaches. So, a question and a thought:

1. Does anyone want a co-coach? i.e. Someone to help with garnering information, making decisions, just staying on top of stuff, etc. (I'm actually strongly considering it. Might be fun to have someone to talk to backstage about my/our squad. Plus, I'm badly in need of friends.)

2. Jumping from 20 to 26 coaches is too much. We'd need to add a bunch of NCAA teams which would effect the keeper aspect of the league. So, my thought is, maybe...

a. Each season, if demand requires it, we add two new teams. (I'm going to come back to this.)
b. Some coaches will request a co-coach.
c. Some coaches will be required to have a co-coach. Something like, the bottom whatever # of teams need to have a co-coach.
d. Draft as usual. But within the Draft, we'll have a sub-Game. In this game, in the Second Round or later, the new coach to the league needs to draft a player that they believe will shine in that given year. Each new coach selects one player and announces that this is "their racehorse".
e. At the end of the season, the two new coaches who drafted the highest scoring racehorse gets their own team in the following season. The new coaches who didn't finish in the top two maintain their status as new coaches, stay as co-coaches, and get another try the following season.

So, for this season, we wouldn't add any new NCAA teams. But 5 (or 6) teams would take on co-coaches. Wadya think?

Also, made up my mind, I want a co-coach. I'm not 100% sure yet but I think we're going to be best friends.

amending "d" above.

d. Draft as usual. But within the Draft, we'll have a sub-Game. In this game, after the First Round and before the start of the Second Round, the new coaches to the league, in a randomly selected order, will "draft a player"* that they believe will shine in that given year. Each new coach selects one player and announces that this is "their racehorse".

* - This isn't an actual Draft Pick which is why "draft a player" is in quotes. But, though the picked player won't actually be placed on a team, we will teat this pick as if it is an actual Draft Pick. i.e. The coaches can only select a player that hasn't already been drafted, etc..

Typical has the first pick this season and was a new coach/team last season.

Typical Lax Dad Season
Devin Spencer JR A Umass 15
Joe Robertson SO A Duke 26
Dylan Watson FR A Georgetown 7
Joe White FR A PSU 2
Carter Zavitz SO A/M Princeton 0
Charlie Curran SO A/M Fairfield 0
Matt Magnan FR M Syracuse 0
Matt Manown FR M Army 17
Matt Sovero FR M Towson 1
Brett Hobbs FR M PSU 2
Sean O'Brien JR A Army 14
Bryce Tolmie SO M Hofstra 3
Finlay Collins SO Midfield UPenn 0
Fairfield D -31

With his first pick, it's entirely possible that he'll get a Robertson like point-getter. He won't make his D mistake 2 seasons in a row. (I think.) He has several double-digit As and 1 double-digit M. Starting a new team isn't such a bad deal.

At the bottom of the Fantasy Page are Draft Resources. May be helpful for some. Current plan is to start the Draft on September 15. Rolling Draft. Coaches pick one after another. So, pick as soon as you want. And as late as you want BUT... 24 hours after, for example, Pick #12, Pick #13 can be leap frogged by Pick #14. Also, 48 hours after Pick # 12, Pick #13 loses their pick.

Matt,

Can two current coaches decide to co-coach together? They'd have to drop most of their players to get to one roster.

I don't understand your racehorse idea at all. Can you give an example, maybe using last year's draft?

We have 5 (or 6) new coaches. I want to find a spot for them. Simultaneously, I don't want to add any new Fantasy Teams. So, I'm looking for 5-6 current coaches who would be open to having a co-coach. That's Part One. Part Two is that it's now one year later and... these 5-6 "new coaches" still want their own team. So, we'll add 2 new Fantasy teams but... Who gets those teams? The answer is... The Game we outlined above.

Totally separate from the Draft (but during the Draft), the "new coaches" will pick a racehorse who will decide who will get one of the open 2 spots in the 2021 season.

I guess I am one of the new potential 5-6 coaches. I am happy to share a team if that works best. Or own my own team.

I like the idea of the two leagues as well where winners get promoted to the more experienced conference and newer teams or the bottom performers compete against each other.

Since this is a keeper league, it sounds like new teams might be at a disadvantage as their entire team will be from newer available players.

So, unless anyone has any objections, the plan for the 2020 fantasy season is...

1- Fantasy League - For the Keeper League, business as usual. No new fantasy teams, no new NCAA teams, Draft is scheduled to start on September 15, etc. The only change, which isn't really a change, is that some teams may have co-coaches that are new coaches to our league.
2- New Fantasy League - Separately, for the 2020 season, we're going to have a completely different fantasy league. (Obviously, it's possible that coaches from this 2nd League may fill vacated spots in the Original League but, currently, these two leagues are simply running in parallel. Details of the New Fantasy League are TBD. (I want to leave this to the coaches of the New Fantasy League.) Keeper, non-Keeper, etc.
3- All coaches have these options:
a. If you're in the Fantasy League and also want to be in the New Fantasy League, let me know.
b. If you're a new coach and want to be a co-coach in the Fantasy League, let me know.
c. If you're a new coach and want to be a coach (with no co-coach) in the New Fantasy League, let me know.
d. If you're a new coach and want to be a co-coach in the Fantasy League and a coach (with no co-coach) in the New Fantasy League, let me know.

That's it. Let me know.

We're going to have two Fantasy Leagues this season. The tried-and-true (20 Team, Keeper) Fantasy League and a new (TBD # of Teams, Non-Keeper) Fantasy League. The new, Non-Keeper League, thus far, has 8 teams. New coaches, if you haven't created a FanLax account and told me your profile name, please do so. Also, for the upcoming Draft (which will start on Sunday, September 15th), this is the Fantasy Lacrosse Page. At the bottom of the page are some links that may be helpful for the Draft and, at the top of the page, there are the Draft and Fantasy Rules.
