27-21 is not a good record for a program with all of the esteem and advantages of UNC. I would submit that except for one magical season, Breschi has underperformed. Certainly, the last three seasons look that way.

They need to turn it around and quick.

Agreed. Their magical season was the anomaly. Every other season, very different. For a long time, UNC has been the school where great HS player go to lose. (UVA was similar but this has seemingly changed.) Then they won a National Championship and... Not much has changed.

The Heels will be just fine. Coaching staff is excellent and most importantly, they have their priorities right. GO HEELS!
I tend to agree with this, though I'm not as certain about 'priorities' given the willingness to be a leader in ER and the academic scandals (which weren't focused on the lacrosse team but were part of the environment). I wonder whether ER actually was collecting the best college players or just many of the best in high school. Early bloomers, highly touted.

Lots of talent doesn't always translate to hunger. Nor leadership.

I'm a big fan of UNC's captain in 2016, Jake Matthai, who indeed was a stud early, an offensive star player 6'6" midfielder. But he became an SSDM at UNC and I suspect that sort of sacrifice and leadership was instrumental to UNC's magical run.

That was a gritty team. And very few of the really "early" commits were on the field. Cloutier was the last recruit in the class.

Couldn’t agree more about Matthai, who was in for just about every one of Loyola’s and Maryland’s possessions at the Linc in 2016. Tough dm who was, I believe, an art major.

Yes. For several years Breschi’s priority was getting the top 9th er .... 8th graders to to “commit” to him. He pushed the envelope so far that ultimately a rule change was needed to get him to stop. His vaunted 2020 class was built this way. He’s too good of a coach to resort to these tactics. And yes, I know that he was not the only coach to do this; Petro, Starsia even Tillman towards the end were culpable. That said, Breschi was the undisputed ER leader from the moment he arrived in CH, pushing the calendar up to ridiculous levels. I’m sorry, but commiting 3-4 top 25-level attackmen in one class as 8th graders is not quite fair... and I hate to use that word. Hard to know what your team needs are five years in advance. “Let’s just get as many of the top kids as possible as early as possible” is not a good strategy for numerous reasons. Glad it’s over.

So, after 91 who would have thought UNC would not win a title for 15+ years? And, go 7-7 for how long ? When you have the fortune of recruiting @UNC 21 losses is a lot of losses. 1 goal losses are on the right side of the column. They should be fine, but the last two years is not an appropriate record w the level of recruits.

Maybe a good pick up for Hoyas but not a loss for UNC. He had 1G and 3A in career at Chapel Hill. Given his IL ranking (?)....I would have expected much more from a recruit of his repute. Not sure if his style did not fit what was Metzbower’s scheme or if there was just too much talent ahead of him...

Best wishes to him.

Munro was injured a lot while in Chapel Hill. If he wanted to play attack then transferring was likely his only option. Wish him luck at Georgetown.

Will Fox hired as the new volunteer assistant.

Glad to see Breschi finally bringing someone in that really understands face-offs.

Breschi, Desko and Petro can’t coach is the takeaway from three schools.

8 national championships in the last 20 years. pretty funny.

It’s always the coach when things drop off expectations. Anything else is too complicated I guess. But it’s the only conclusion I can find in those three topics here

We’ll see how Breschi and Petro do without getting 8th grade recruits. I don’t feel bad for them getting criticized. Their choices.

A little hyperbole I think. There are programs recruiting as early and more successful. Some were holding back announcements for a year or more. Some had kids announce for one school knowing they were flipping to them if they got admitted. Far more complicated an issue

And Desko?
