Fire Warne! Still no quarters!!!

Saw Ty Xanders tweets from scrimmage vs Rutgers but nothing more. Anyone there to give some perspective on how Hoyas looked. Final was 16-15 Georgetown but with full rosters playing not sure that tells us that much.

Interesting write up. Looks like a lot of positives! Seems like some of the question marks on offense are being answered.

Don't like to see them giving up goals in bunches and digging themselves into a hole which was a chronic problem last season.

And cringing a bit at the goalie situation, seeing as though they couldn't hold on to Chris Brandau, but Owen McElroy was very solid as a starter most of last season, so I suspect that will come around.

Short write ups on Denver Hoyas and Nova. Away from those three I do think Providence most likely to make some noise, although who takes over in cage has big shoes to fill. Marquette always tough but with Amplo gone and a few key transfers leaving it may be a bit of a rebuild. SJU has many issues currently and will leave it at that.

For Hoyas -from what I read regarding Rutgers scrimmage and what I saw during alumni game (strong talent was represented by alumni squad) a few things stand out and will be key to success this year.

Attack - you just can’t replace Dan Bucaro but with Carraway, Clark returning for 5th year RS and Dylan Watson, who could really be the offensive X factor, the attack unit should be very strong. A few underclassmen also impressed in fall so rotation should be deep.

Midfield - whittenberg a huge loss. Bucci back after a breakout junior year and Mcdermott off a very strong freshman year will be leaders. The freshmen Bundy and Godine will be involved heavily from day one IMO and look to be ready to contribute right away. Key will be finding other upperclassmen who can produce - Thompson, Elders (who had a solid season) etc.

Fogo - Bean finally seems healthy, Reilly has a nice freshmann campaign. Heverly and incoming freshman Milburn also had a nice fall. Need to get this unit above 50% at a minimum.

Poles and SSDM - Aslanian and Dunn are losses but Geddes had a strong freshman season and short stick and Licalzi at pole was strong. Poles should be fine as depth there is good. Finding two more SSDMs is key for the spring.

Close D - entire unit returns. Smith Is a stud on wings, transition and down low. Mazzone had a strong freshman campaign, Macleod a senior was solid. Freshman Donaldson is a beast and will be a big contributor i believe.

Goalie - McElroy, who started most of season is back and Stephenson, a senior is a great stopper. Hopefully get a midyear transfer to add depth and competition.

Similar to last year, this is a strong team, the culture is excellent and it will all be about the X factors of freshmen and rising upperclassmen who take on key roles making meaningful contributions. Can’t wait for February.

Let’s go Hoyas!

It’s not the final roster yet. Have 3 more players to cut to get to 23. They are at 26 right now. But still a great accomplishment so far.

You are technically correct on 23 for final dressed game day roster but I believe they will keep 26 in case of injuries etc. Either way great accomplishment for the young Hoya and all the other boys who made the final 26.

Nice job Hoyas. Big time win which made most of America happy. Winning a NC in any sport is incredibly difficult. That's 3 BE teams with recent championships in sports that really do matter: Gtown, Nova, and Denver. If any of you have some pull, ask Commissioner Ackerman to let DU join the BE in all sports. We play you in many sports now. So we stink in basketball; BE teams could use a breather in conference play. We are good in everything else. Go Pios.

Hoyas have added much needed quality depth in the cage after the Brandau transfer. Noah Klein, mid year freshman transfer from BU. Played at Gilman and was the #10 rated incoming freshman goalie this year.

Gibby Smith 2nd team and Jake Carraway HM named to the D1 media preseason All American teams. Only BE team with multiple selections.

Hoyas vs Maryland Saturday on Cooper in 1st scrimmage of Spring season. Will be a great barometer for where the team is at with many new faces going to be playing meaningful roles this season. The following week Hoyas scrimmage Navy and Penn in Annapolis in another great tune up before the season opener at Lafayette on February 8th. Let’s go Hoyas!

Was at the scrimmage. Don’t know much about Georgetown but here are a few takeaways
1sr Georgetown was not ready for Maryland’s Bernhardt. The GT had a goal
2nd GT bounce back played more even with MD. The got two extra man goals.
3rd several times GT got shut out on scoring opportunities. A player were #47 went down with a lower body injury. Not sure if GT was wearing their correct numbers
4th lots back and forth.

Overall GT seem to do well on FO
Coach Warne is as lively as ever.

I watched the Lafayette game on Patriot League stream. The team looked good but it was hard to judge the level of competition.

Gibson Smith and Bundy the freshman middle did not play. Any word on injuries, etc.?

Neither injury is major. With no setbacks, both should hopefully be a go Saturday at UMBC.

So, 2-0 with a couple of impressive wins against less than impressive competition.

What are the general impressions of the team so far?

I'm liking what I'm seeing in a few areas that have been weaker in the past:
  • Defense looks strong. Big, aggressive, poised.
  • Face-offs look much improved
  • LSM: Mazzone taking to the move well
Other positives:
  • Solid goaltending
  • Aggressive and successful on ground balls
  • Good production from attack
  • Assisted goals
Things that will need improvement:
  • Going to need more offensive input from the midfield --- although they are young there and should improve as the season progresses

The Hoya seeds of success were planted when Carraway arrived. :D

How has Munro looked so far? Feel like his transfer and impact on GTown is somewhat binary, either he will be an under the radar “holy hell what a impactful move” or “eh, another coaches kid who wasn’t as good as his press” (which could still be very good of course).

Nothing "game changing" so far, but he has contributed a couple quiet goals from the second midfield.
