I tend to agree that it is "obvious" that there's been a ton of political pressure out of the White House onto the scientists, much of it quite unhelpful, and I'm not really sure there's much reason to debate that reality...however, you seem to want to debate it...but again, that could be a mistaken read...

Germany is doing WAY better than the US on cumulative covid death totals per million. And I expect Germany to get this spike under better control much faster than the US will.

But I don't think you meant it that way, you just have a style that takes exception, sometimes seemingly just for drill...I can be said to do the same at times, so I don't think you need to sweat it (or I do too!

Is there some reason to think that Germans aren't wearing masks, distancing, etc as well as Americans are? I wasn't aware they were battling this another way...genuinely interested, not arguing.

ok, fine. note that's the last part of the exchange for your future observations. i didn't say if i'm condescended to, i'll just sit there and take it. maybe i'll let it pass, maybe i won't. also for the record, that was me letting it go. my retort was a good deal earlier.
tld and i are fine, i'm fairly confident. try not to read into our exchanges too much. a fan, too, prior to now and i'm guessing this blows over given what i can tell about him.

Thanks, I wondered whether you were referring to the IHME estimates. I've thought their mask estimates about the US were wildly high, based upon my own observations 'out in the wild'...I wonder how they arrive at these estimates?

Update on vaccine availability. Looks like there is an option to purchase another 400M of Pfizer, no date specified. Just purchased another 100M of Modern off option allocation. Plan seems to be to cover 150M people by end of Q2. 100M Moderna and 50M Pfizer.

they've been the loss leader, in a good way.
epidemiologists will have a field day for years after this pandemic. i saw a month or so ago they had had 5 kids under 18 in icu. total. they're tanks.

Talked to a friend that’s a nurse at the OSU hospital....she was kind of depressed....a good friend of her’s lost both parents to COVID this week...that’s not what had her depressed..... she said seeing patients back in the hospital for a second time with COVID has her down.......worried about when it will end....that is not good.
