In May/June- Many were yelled at by the left for not continuing to lock down. We supposedly let out too early to dangerously spread out 6-8' apart and play sports and go to the beach.
Trump was calling it a hoax.
Meanwhile the other side (out of the other side of their mouth) was saying that protests were "worth the risk" by health officials, community activists and community stakeholders:

And let's not get into NY Ohio , NJ and other states who's governors bumbled the handling of retirement homes.
But undoubtedly it was entirely Trump's pandemic.

Yes, it was Trump's pandemic...he was POTUS, he made the decision to "downplay" it. Early and then ongoing. He made the decision to not federalize the response to PPE, testing, tracing. He made the decision to encourage Governors to open up prior to CDC recommendation. He made the decision to encourage the resistance to Governor's following public health counsel and mandating various behaviors, including mask usage. He made the decision to politicize various therapeutics, some falsely, giving false confidence for some. He made the decision to politicize the vaccine development effort and timing, reducing confidence in the safety of the vaccines under development.kramerica.inc wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 9:49 am In May/June- Many were yelled at by the left for not continuing to lock down. Others made errors, but none were as responsible for the mismanagement of the pandemic than Trump. And he was POTUS...
get over it, Kram.
He blew this responsibility and still is.
Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
I don't hear anyone, here or otherwise, calling the pandemic entirely Trump's fault. With over 300 million people in our country, heck, let's look globally, I'm sure we can find several but, for sure, this is not a common perspective. What is a common perspective and justifiably so is that Trump is the POTUS and he is doing very little, he is calling the Coronavirus the China Virus, pointing fingers elsewhere, he is minimizing and obfuscating, etc. All of this as *the POTUS*. That's not small, kramerica. No, of course it's not entirely his fault. That's an inane perspective. But the reality of his role in how this pandemic has been handled, it's pretty bad. His role will undeniably be written about in history books for years to come.

Separately, I was chatting with a guy in Melbourne (AUS) and... He saw a film in a theater. Pretty amazing. Melbourne has managed the virus very well and currently they haven't had a new case in some 54 days or so. Pretty impressive.

And the person reporting it actually lives in Australia, and posted video of normal life now occurring there.
One good caveat - it is almost summer there now, so there is that advantage. But if we were willing to go through a short term pain we could get the numbers down MUCH lower.

No, the protests (those millions of people that were peaceful) were 90+% mask compliant. Millions in the streets wearing masks. And lots of people, including posters on here who supported those protests, said the congregating was nevertheless dangerous...and thank goodness mask compliance was high.kramerica.inc wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 9:33 amNo. I'm trying to reckon how protests were deemed NOT spreader events when I watched them first hand and they were no different than that Bicycle Rally in SD. Survey the group that went to the big motorcycle rally in South Dakota. Or maybe, any of the attendees at any of the recent Trump rallies. The ACB announcement event at the White House?

You and I both know saw it if you're being honest with yourself.
Those that spiraled out of control and the opportunists at night, etc, were far less mask compliant. Less dense, but definitely dangerous...and no one on here was excusing either the violence nor the lack of masks.
By contrast the Trump 'protests' and rallies were explicitly defiant about not wearing masks at the urging and example of Trump.

That is an utterly ridiculous take. Its an island country, very far from most other populated countries. If they EVER want to have tourism again, the virus will return to the country, its as simple as that. Please stop with the baseless comparisons to the United States to prove some point that validates the narrative that you choose to believe in. The United States is vastly different, this approach will never work NOT ever. Afan, don't bother asking me how many deaths am I ok with? I'm not addressing that, because no matter what I say, it won't sit well with you. Enough about how poor The US response has been, it's too late now to change that. Rehashing it does NOTHING, nada.
