Cheyenne Mountain blocks Erie in Class 4A semis (CO)
Red-Tailed Hawks to make fourth straight title game appearance
By ALISSA NOE |
PUBLISHED: May 23, 2022 at 7:59 p.m.

ENGLEWOOD — Success in high school athletics isn’t always measured by wins and losses, but by how a team can progress in its short existence.

Erie boys lacrosse has epitomized that rise since its inception in 2019, even as its season came to an end on Monday night at Englewood High School when, for the second straight year, they fell to perennial powerhouse Cheyenne Mountain in the Class 4A state semifinals by a 9-7 final.

They just couldn’t match the defensive pressure that the Red-tailed Hawks were throwing down, especially as their foes dominated the faceoffs to gain possession after extra possession. Still, two Tigers managed to stand out among their crowded,

talented offense as senior midfielder Corby Tecu (Drexel) netted a hat trick

and sophomore attacker Liam Connors added another two goals.

ANC (Academy New Church PA) holds off late Hill School rally,
10-9, claims @Victory_Events
Mid-Atlantic Preps championship
Sunday, 22nd May 2022

The end of the season means the end of Jack Joyner’s high school career.

Joyner (Drexel) who scored a goal and had an assist in the win, was the only senior who played and the only team captain.

Mid-Atlantic Prep champion Academy of the New Church
“Jack Joyner did a hell of a job cementing his legacy at our program. Winning two championships,”
ANC head coach Jack Forster (Penn State) said,
the Friends League title being the second championship. “I can’t say enough about him. That was all him. We kind of just gave him the team halfway through the year, and he went running with it.”

The thing of it is, that guy could be about to miss the ocean from the beach and from the picture you'd never know.

What the picture conveys is mainly the development of his lower body musculature and flexibility. Which you can see from the picture but don't have a sense of until about his junior year in HS.

"Blue blood" programs bet on the things you can't see in the picture -- stick skills and field vision before you really see the physical package or the work ethic. How's that worked out for them? I think we both know.

Its a crapshoot once you get past the top xxx recruits in any class,
and especially when you recruit from non-traditional or newer
programs.

Many of these recruits like this one come from multi-sport backgrounds, especially football which is likely their primary
sport. So, really you’re hoping those other sports translates into
high level athleticism on the lacrosse field.

In the case of some CAA teams, they’ve been able to bring in
top xxx recruits, so there is less doubt and more evidence that
those top xxx recruits can perform at the next level — you have
Michael Robinson and Owen Grant at Delaware, and Michael
Weisshaar at Towson this upcoming year.

Having flashbacks of Perkovic?
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Could be
But really, who know ?
I think Perkovic came out of an established program,
this one, Erie Colorado, is no more than 3 or 4 years old.

Anyways, just trying to highlight over the coming weeks,
post national title game, some of the incoming freshmen.

It was a successful year, from a CAA standpoint.
A team, got past the first round in the NCAAs.

Right aisle, wrong product. My flashbacks are every ssdm Hopkins trotted out circa 2015-20, nearly all of whom failed the basic test of being hirable as a body double in a movie about an ssdm. If Petro had just picked up four random guys a year who looked like Tecu, we'd have been in a lot better shape.

Maybe in the future I should add a signature line that if I start jabbering incoherently I'm probably just getting worked up complaining about early recruiting.

Too bad the Hobart Urick model of find athletes and teach them the game doesn’t work in a “daddy live through their kids” driven sport specialization world anymore.

I wonder if Urick had to back then.
There just weren’t enough actual lacrosse players back then.

He started out as football coach first so maybe you are correct though there’s a treasure trove of lacrosse players throughout that region so feel like for a program started in 1898 with our tradition hadn’t a decent pool to select from within a 2hr radius.

Tye Kurtz is at the top of my list of “other” AA type talent in
this league.

Kurtz made a play at the end of the Cornell game, desperation time, season is going to end — came close to getting Delaware to
within one goal with still enough time left on the clock for one
last attempt to tie it.

Michael Straub coming to Delaware this upcoming season.
A high level faceoff man, in the mold of Luke Wierman, out of the ChesMont league, same PA league Wierman came from.

Unfortunately, Downingtown West was upset by Unionville and won't be in the PA state tournament where Straub could have faced off against the best in the state.

There are notices out that Aidan Kaminska - UMass
passed suddenly.

Kaminska came on at the very end of the season,
giving UMass a solid boost during the CAA tournie stretch
run, scoring 8 goals in UMass’ last 3 games.

I also saw Matt Acchione is back to playing (OLA Jr A) — also Keaton Zavitz (Drexel 2023), Carter Begley - playing box this summer.

Delaware had a nice group. It’s a shame 3 failed clears did them
In vs Cornell. Total head scratcher considering how well they were playing.
