If you are old, with multiple health conditions (young, for that matter ).......it's potentially serious. Just like the seasonal flu. Or the hundreds of others resipatory ailments.
For a high school senior that lost their lacrosse season? It's really this simple. Our politicians don't wear masks. How did the Dr. from Virginia, and his wife, test positive for V19? He IS the Governor, is he not? remember all the infotainment railing against his lack of concern?
yeah, us neither.

What does the coach "wanting" 90,000 fans in the stands and the players in his program testing positive have to do with each other? There is nothing wrong with wanting normalcy, he doesnt get to make that ultimate decision! So again, wanting normalcy is not wrong in any regard. The coach is not PHYSICALLY responsible for his players testing positive. Again, its a f*****g communicable virus, it's not a surprise that members of the UF team tested positive. Reports are, majority are asymptomatic. What is shocking, is that people are genuinely surprised that the players did indeed test POSITIVE. Regardless of your political/viewpoint/age,etc. THIS and only THIS is what's wrong. It's going to become and HAS become a part of life, like many many other respiratory viruses. That does nothing to DOWNPLAY it all. Think critically, not emotionally!ardilla secreta wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 7:52 pmIsn’t that the program where the coach wanted 90,000 in a packed stadium? I am not worried about the athletes.... it’s all the parties for the games that is the problem. Just keeping that virus circulating so that we can’t get back to something normal. If hospitals start to fill up, we are shutting down again. And after the election it will be quicker no matter who is in office. The campaign will be over so we will get a different response.JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:17 pmWhat does the coach "wanting" 90,000 fans in the stands and the players in his program testing positive have to do with each other? Re: All things Chinese CoronaVirus
You are 100% correct. There is not a thing wrong with wanting normalcy. But it may also be the case that there is a ton of work needed to be done to get normalcy. As for the coach in question, one would surmise he carries a bit of sway with those in charge no? That taken with the recent action of the governor to open stadium up could lead a person to conclude that 90K in the stands is a distinct possibility.JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:17 pmWhat does the coach "wanting" 90,000 fans in the stands and the players in his program testing positive have to do with each other? There is some growing evidence that although R is important it is only the average of transmition, and this may not be the best variable to look at in this instance. There are some that think over dispersion or K, the measure of weather a virus spreads in a steady state or in bursts where a single person infects many around them. There is one estimate that something like 20% of infections cause 80% of the spread. Tis may lead someone to question why put that many people in 1 place where the likely hood for such an event increases?
Here is an interesting review from the atlantic on K: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/arch ... ic/616548/
This paper from the above article looks at the stochastic nature of the virus: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2005.13689.pdf
Now getting back to the coach in question, if he aware of the growing nature of the evidence regarding this type of spread? Probably not, he is a coach and that is not his job. That being said, one could understand why people who might read the literature may question his "wanting" of a packed Swamp.
There really are no easy answers to this.

"want" normalcy.
Who doesn't "want" such, sooner the better?
But it's not going to be normal until the virus is beaten.
Get over it, we're in for a tough slog.
But have hope, we can do it.

Herd immunity and the White House:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/c ... story.html
"Maverick scientists who call for allowing the coronavirus to spread freely at “natural” rates among healthy young people while keeping most aspects of the economy up and running have found an audience inside the White House and at least one state capitol.
The scientists met last week with Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Scott Atlas, a neuroradiologist who has emerged as an influential adviser to President Trump on the pandemic.
When asked for comment, HHS referred a reporter to Azar’s subsequent Twitter statement about the meeting: “We heard strong reinforcement of the Trump Administration’s strategy of aggressively protecting the vulnerable while opening schools and the workplace.”
A senior administration official told reporters in a background briefing call Monday that the proposed strategy — which has been denounced by other infectious-disease experts and has been called “fringe” and “dangerous” by National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins — supports what has been Trump’s policy for months.
“We’re not endorsing a plan. The plan is endorsing what the president’s policy has been for months. The president’s policy — protect the vulnerable, prevent hospital overcrowding, and open schools and businesses — and he’s been very clear on that,” the official said.
“Everybody knows that 200,000 people died. That’s extremely serious and tragic. But on the other hand, I don’t think society has to be paralyzed, and we know the harms of confining people to their homes,” the official added.
Trump has long chafed at the economic damage from shutdowns imposed to control the pandemic, and has repeatedly pushed states to reopen, at one point threatening to withhold federal funding from states that did not open schools. After he contracted the virus and developed symptoms of covid-19 serious enough to require hospitalization, Trump still urged the public, “Don’t be afraid of Covid.”
In pushing his agenda, Trump has steadily drifted away from the counsel of his own government’s top doctors, such as White House coronavirus task force coordinator Deborah Birx and Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Into that void has stepped Atlas, who has relied on the maverick scientists to bolster his in-house arguments. At a recent White House news briefing, he cited them by name.
The three scientists pushing the strategy, which they call Focused Protection, have distinguished academic appointments. Martin Kulldorff is an epidemiologist at Harvard University. Sunetra Gupta is an epidemiologist at the University of Oxford. Jay Bhattacharya is a physician and epidemiologist at Stanford Medical School.
They have codified their argument in the form of a document posted online that called itself the Great Barrington Declaration, named after the town in Massachusetts where it was unveiled on Oct. 4 in a ceremony at a libertarian think tank."
And from the Times:
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/10/13 ... d-immunity
"The White House has embraced a declaration by a group of scientists arguing that authorities should allow the coronavirus to spread among young healthy people while protecting the elderly and the vulnerable — an approach that would rely on arriving at “herd immunity” through infections rather than a vaccine.
Many experts say “herd immunity” — the point at which a disease stops spreading because nearly everyone in a population has contracted it — is still very far-off. Leading experts have concluded, using different scientific methods, that about 85 to 90 percent of the American population is still susceptible to the coronavirus.
On a call convened Monday by the White House, two senior administration officials, both speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to give their names, cited an October 4 petition titled The Great Barrington Declaration, which argues against lockdowns and calls for a reopening of businesses and schools.
“Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health,” the declaration states, adding, “The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.”
The declaration has more than 9,000 signatories from all over the world, its website says, though most of the names are not public. The document grew out of a meeting hosted by the American Institute for Economic Research, a libertarian-leaning research organization.
Its lead authors include Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, an epidemiologist and infectious disease expert at Stanford University, the academic home of Dr. Scott Atlas, President Trump’s science adviser. Dr. Atlas has also espoused herd immunity.
The declaration’s architects include Sunetra Gupta and Gabriela Gomes, two scientists who have proposed that societies may achieve herd immunity when 10 to 20 percent of their populations have been infected with the virus, a position most epidemiologists disagree with.
Last month, at the request of The New York Times, three epidemiological teams calculated the percentage of the country that is infected. What they found runs strongly counter to the theory being promoted in influential circles that the United States has either already achieved herd immunity or is close to doing so, and that the pandemic is all but over. That conclusion would imply that businesses, schools and restaurants could safely reopen, and that masks and other distancing measures could be abandoned.
“The idea that herd immunity will happen at 10 or 20 percent is just nonsense,” said Dr. Christopher J.L. Murray, director of the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, which produced the epidemic model frequently cited during White House news briefings as the epidemic hit hard in the spring.
The move comes amid a coronavirus outbreak at the White House that has now grown to more than 20 people, as evidence mounts that the administration did little to prevent or contain the virus’s spread.
On Tuesday night, officials with the Department of Labor said that the wife of the secretary, Eugene Scalia, tested positive for the coronavirus earlier in the day. Trish Scalia, who was said to be experiencing “mild symptoms,” and her husband were at a Rose Garden event honoring Judge Amy Coney Barrett that is being eyed as the source of several infections in people connected to the White House. The secretary tested negative, officials said, but he will work from home “for the time being.”

So, it's NOT death that concerns you fear porn lovers........the kids are fine.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 8:32 amI thought I said, I wasn’t worried about kids dying? It’s the passing it along that’s the problem. Great. Don't some of you keep the parents locked in a "ASSistied" living facility? These places "locking down" the workers? no.....they are not.
instead, we are locking 20 years olds in rooms. Do colleges test EVERYONE?

SO WHAT
go to page 12
https://www.cms.gov/files/document/medi ... august.pdf
if anyone can find an updated spreadsheet, it would be appreciated.
But, even IF you divide the two month old payout of $3.5 billion by the number of deaths, that is $16K per death.
Who is getting this money, and what for?
oligarchy thanks you......same as it evah was

Kids get sick. They don’t die very often. Could take up a hospital bed though. We will figure it out. Are kids at home this fall like they were last Spring?ABV 8.3% wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 8:39 amSo, it's NOT death that concerns you fear porn lovers........the kids are fine.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 8:32 amI thought I said, I wasn’t worried about kids dying? Some of our institutions are being run by people who have failed us.....some of our institutions are populated by people who have failed us.
These institutions are being destroyed by people.
