To be fair (at least to the freshmen pre-season rankings and other HS rankings), they are made by looking at the player within the context of the high school game. College is a different game with different team needs, tactics, systems, rules, etc. IMO it is extremely difficult to project how players players will do in college in many team sports, including lacrosse (as opposed to individual sports or team sports that are very individually skill-based like swimming, track, gymnastics, baseball, softball, etc.)

Great article.....100% accurate. My daughter was recruited by KAH and everything she says in the article is exactly what she and her staff said to my daughter throughout the process. Totally professional and transparent.

After reading so much information and data on this site, I thought I would throw out a question to see if anyone has done the research to help future recruits. Does anyone know a breakdown of playing minutes by class per school. An example, NW has played 17 games this year for a total of 1020 minutes for the team and a total of 12240 minutes combined for a 12 woman roster. What percentage of those minutes were played by freshman/sophmores/jr/sr/grad. Love to be able to understand which coaches play younger talent vs upper class/grad to help with future decisions and help the recruits understand generalized playing expectations. Good luck mathletes.

Each player is an individual. To try to make some kind of math formula about playing time disregards the human element. Madison Taylor played (with a great deal of poise and fearlessness) in every game as a frosh for Northwestern, whereas highly touted Mallory Hasselbeck has been an abject bust for Boston College.

Coaches are playing the best players period. Even at the highest level of HS, the gap in strategy and tactics between high school and D1 women's lacrosse is massive, especially on the defensive side of the ball. For the best players, it probably takes 1.5 years to learn more programs system which all of the reads, slide patterns, etc.

I highly doubt ANY top 20 coaches is expecting any recruit to contribute in her first (or in some cases even second year). If It happens, great. But definitely not built into depth chart planning

To just look at minutes by class probably won't give you the full picture. There are a lot of moving parts that go into it. You need to at least take in to consideration graduation losses, injuries, transfer portal, the type of system a program plays, etc. And all of those different parts are constantly changing for each program, and even taking those things into consideration, I don't think you're going to get a clear picture.

Seems like it's just a service trying to make money off people. As most who have been through the HS recruiting process know, there are several companies that try to do the same at that stage making all sorts of promises. College coaches monitor the portal heavily and reach out to players they are interested in. In my opinion, there's no need for a service for transferring. Once you're in the portal you can reach out to whoever you want. They'll either return your call or they won't. They aren't going to listen to someone at Verified Athletic's opinion on the matter. Some of my friend's kids have gone into the portal and all were contacted by schools they hadn't even reached out to. I can't see what a service could do to help with this process.

And that's only for non-grads. Grad transfers can go into portal as soon as their season ends. It's why you are already seeing destinations announced for Ivy players on the men's side.
