Are inconsistencies in gloves also removed?...
And the Forum Poll has them at... #19. Which is way too low. Keep in mind, OSU beat UNC, Rutgers, and Air Force (and have a #11 win ranking, not amazing) and their worst losses are to Denver, Cornell, and PSU (#4 "Best Losses" in the nation). Might not be obvious but this is the #6 resume in D1 Men's lacrosse...
Proof that computers don't have senses of humor.

Scores aside, they have losses, but don't have any rough losses. Especially relative to the other D1M teams.

I struggle to see how OSU even receives votes, let alone a place in the top 25...let alone a place in the top 10. This is beyond laughable.

On the plus side, it invalidates your entire poll so we can safely disregard it going forward.

FTR: OSU has lost 6 of 8; in 5 of those 6 losses, they weren't competitive. As in: The game was all-but over by halftime. Of their 5 wins, two are against good teams, the other 3 are against, to put it mildly, "lesser" programs. To their credit, the did take care of business against Detroit Mercy.
OSU beat Rutgers and Unc, at Unc. They have some solid wins, along with some rough losses.
Yes, that's why they are still hanging around at #24 in my poll.

This is interesting.

I almost ranked Bellarmine, but gave their spot to my honorary honorees, Quinnipiac.

Bellarmine was tied for #30 in my poll, just ahead of Princeton.

Admittedly, the Mercer loss is a LOT to forgive, but their only other two losses are to Duke and Utah (also ranked by me). Eight might be high, but gotta reward winning....

Reward winning? #8? Because they beat Air Force and Marquette...

I still question UNC being ranked as high as they are. Their best wins are Hopkins and Syracuse. The SU win quality is subjective based on where you put Syracuse in the rankings. I do recognize UNC is 9 in RPI and I am ok with their ranking based primarily on RPI. The SU - UNC game will be interesting, but the quality of the upcoming win is subjective.

I don't think the OSU win over UNC is enough to put OSU high in the rankings. Rutgers is a hard team to figure out this year. I think they are a little better than Michigan and Princeton, and not as good as they were last year.

The fl computer only rewards losing. e.g.: Ohio State @ #6

Hopkins is a top 5 win. Not many teams with one of those. Syracuse, Brown, and Dartmouth are all top 30 wins, and High Point top 40 -- a solid "middle" resume.

Saw an interesting graphic from laxreference that as of now, the only teams that are locks to be in the tournament are Duke, ND and UVA. The field is still wide open, lots of great lax left. Interested to see if the Ivy League sneaks a second team in and how many teams the B10 gets. UNC interesting to me as well as the big east, as in I have no idea how it will pan out. Best time of the year!

I've been tweaking my formula over the past few weeks, but I think I've settled on this. Note that I don't rank strictly on these numbers... I'll move teams around based on recent performance if the numbers are close. I did make a mistake on Georgetowns calculation this week, which led me to rank them #16 when they should have been more like #11 (chalk it up to an effort to avoid homerism).

1. Notre Dame (3.00)
2. Virginia (2.90)
3. Duke (2.83)
4. Maryland (2.20)
5. Cornell (2.11)
6. Penn State (2.10)
7. Rutgers (1.72)
8. Army (1.70)
9. Yale (1.55)
10. Hopkins (1.46)
11. Georgetown (1.44)
12. Denver (1.44)
13. UNC (1.36)
14. Loyola (1.10)
15. Villanova (1.09)
16. Jacksonville (1.09)
17. Boston U (0.90)
18. UMass (0.90)
19. Penn (0.88)
20. Michigan (0.80)
21. Harvard (0.77)
22. Marquette (0.70)
23. Dartmouth (0.66)
24. Ohio State (0.63)
25. Bryant (0.60)
26. Utah (0.60)
27. Brown (0.60)
28. Vermont (0.60)
29. Syracuse (0.58)
30. Delaware (0.54)
31. Bellarmine (0.54)

Top 5 RPI win = 6 points
Top 10 RPI win = 5 points
Top 20 RPI win = 4 points
Top 30 RPI win = 3 point
Top 40 RPI win = 2 points
All other wins = 1 point

Top 25 RPI loss = -1 points
All other losses = -2 points

I have never understood how a team that is a top 5 RPI win (e.g., Johns Hopkins at RPI #4) can count as a top 5 win for other teams but not be ranked as a top 5 team.

Doesn’t make sense at all.

What you gotta love about Doc is that he doesn't just defend Hopkins against naysayers, ne'er-do-wells, and insults. Nay, he patrols the forums looking for anything that might be seen as a perceived slight against the Blue Jays, however indirect or unintentionial, and immediately jumps in to defend the stain on their honor.

No sooner have the fan polls been published than Doc, who doesn't even participate in the enterprise, has spotted with his eagle eye that Hopkins has been left off a ballot and immediately insinuates conspiratorial nefarious intent on the part of the errant pollster.

Someone publishes the result of their ranking algorithm and Doc's eagle-eye again hones in on a perceived injustice to the Blue Jays and questions the entire enterprise.

Me, I'm just glad he didn't notice that I *gasp* ranked Cornell above Hopkins in my fan poll. The shame, the shame...
