as for WOMBAT and Petro, I really pity the program that has to play hopkins homecoming next year when they honor the seniors that didn't get sr day this year and then honor the 05 team at halftime that didn't get honored this year on field and call petro's name. Schedule maryland for the game and watch our guys whip them w/all the emotion they have seeing petro back at homewood for the first time.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
you shouldn't pity anybody that would would have to go though that. it won't affect anything that happens on the field.jhu06 wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 7:28 pm as for WOMBAT and Petro, I really pity the program that has to play hopkins homecoming next year when they honor the seniors that didn't get sr day this year and then honor the 05 team at halftime that didn't get honored this year on field and call petro's name. I think the Blue Jays’ free agency class—Fernandez, Kirson, and Szuluk—is among the best this offseason. Filled in some real areas of need. Great job by the staff.

Great news on Szuluk, who seems to have 4 years of remaining eligibility. And all credit to Hopfan, who posted this news very early on Friday morning, almost 3 full days of TX. I feel bad for every doubting.
Agree with Wombat, healthy and respectful Memorial Day to you all. And let's all think about and remember to tell our kids about Brendan Looney and Jimmy Regan and Raymond Enners and Michael Nathe and even Welles Crowther. And all the rest of those who have served this great country.

how do we pronounce szuluk. Some of you keep talking about the roster churn at maryland. I can't imagine the forums if petro was adding what 7-9 guys from other programs a year and dropping that many.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 9:15 pmGreat to have confirmation!AreaLax wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 7:08 pm Per TX twitter

Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
Of minor importance and interest but since it was tangentially brought up about Homecoming - I wonder what they will do about schedules if there is a '21 season. Since the big portion of the schedule was never played do they keep it as is? What about out of conference that were played and were not played? Will Hop still go to Delaware? Navy? Jays better pack some extra undies if they have to go to Towson/UNC/Syracuse/Delaware/Navy.
It's no accident that all 3 transfers are on the defensive side. Colwell - if he returns - and Reinson are your only experienced players. Unfortunately their stats are not eye popping - 12 gbs 4 CTOs for Colwell in 6 games - 8 gbs and 3 CTOs for Reinson your #1 LSM.
Darby's statistics are well documented here.
Szuluk, BTW, is going to have to learn how to avoid "a night in the box" - 6 penalties - 4 personals.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
If the out of conference games that were played this season change location, bu the ones that weren't played remain the same, then we'd be home against Loyola and Princeton but away at the six others. Even if the B1G schedule stays put—three home, two road—in total that'd be five home games vs. eight road games. That's not going to work. FWIW, in a recent interview I believe Tillman said the Big Ten schedule that went unplayed this year will be preserved in 2021.51percentcorn wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 8:02 am Of minor importance and interest but since it was tangentially brought up about Homecoming - I wonder what they will do about schedules if there is a '21 season. If we are on the road against Ohio State in the Shoe, at least we probably won't have to worry about our goalie lacking experience playing in big stadiums with blank backdrops.
PS I'm fine with playing UNC on the road—we tend to do much better at their place, for whatever reason.

The switch from a .45 goalie to a .58 goalie is huge. Instead of giving up 13 goals a game, you're now giving up 10 goals a game.51percentcorn wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 8:02 am

That makes games winnable for your offense. With Kirson coming in and Demopoulos coming in 2021 the days of horrific goaltending look like they're over for us.
It's clear this staff isn't looking for one year fixes. I wouldn't be surprised to see a starting defense with both Szuluk and Smith next year and a starting attack of Epstein, Grimes, and McDermott. Those are units that would grow and improve together over time. Sort of like surrounding Lamar Jackson with young talent. It's certainly working out for the Ravens.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
I'm excited about Kirson but not sure it's totally accurate to call him a 58% goalie—he was 52% last year and 48% the year before that. The trajectory is exactly what you want to see and what really matters IMO is that he's north of 50%. We just need someone to give us a chance. After years of playing the 45 game, having someone more steady is critical if you want to get back to playing competitively in May.Sagittarius A* wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 11:01 am The switch from a .45 goalie to a .58 goalie is huge. I'm also incredibly pumped about Grimes and McDermott as I think I've made quite clear by now but we should also pump the brakes on that—these freshmen might not even get a fall ball to help adjust to the college game on top of not having a full high school senior season. The new kids come in green and mistake prone even under ideal circumstances, so if their preseason is curtailed then it could be quite an adventure come springtime—that goes for freshmen on every team, not just ours. Some guys like Grimes and McDermott are probably good enough to overcome that and still be contributors but we should probably temper expectations for the freshies in year one league-wide. There's also a kid named Owen Murphy who might have something to say about two freshmen coming in and taking his spot. The kid had 11 points in three games once he was made a starter—hat tricks against Princeton and Syracuse. He's for real.
I don't think anyone here has a clue what the defensive configurations will look like—Fernandez gives you the option of bumping Reinson down low. We don't know if McManus and Lyne will be back in their same roles, if Smith will take to the D1 game quickly, if guys like Rodgers, Ruddy, Calnan will develop under the new staff, lots and lots of question marks that won't be answered for awhile.

For the first time in a while, we seem to have good depth everywhere. This team is ready to win again.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2021
Regarding the transfers of Kirson and Szuluk, as per Ty Xanders:
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ ... kins/56455
"The Blue Jays had a 2-4 record when the season abruptly ended, as they finished as the 54th-ranked scoring defense in Division I with 13.17 GAA, tied for 52nd in man-down defense (.533) and 66th in clearing percentage (.789) in 2020. Junior Ryan Darby has started all but one of the Blue Jays' 22 games, who have consistently had their goalie play hover around a save percentage of 45% and a 13.00 GAA during that time, so these additions could provide a shot in the arm along with the transfer of LSM and No. 1 underclassman Jared Fernandez."

I think I posted a hypothetical schedule if we keep this years unplayed+do normal rotation from games played we have 8 road games/5 home.51percentcorn wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 8:02 am Of minor importance and interest but since it was tangentially brought up about Homecoming - I wonder what they will do about schedules if there is a '21 season. 8 gbs in 6 games for reinson was low considering how much pt he got. Kuuuuuuuuuhn was usually around 27 or so, Pellegrino, who just got promoted in foxborough, averaged around 30 in his career.
