Agreed. I don't know what the deal with them is. They seem to start strong and then fizzle out as the season progresses.
Here's the main reason. Last year they started 4-2 with wins over Colorado, Lindenwood, Vandy and Pitt. Losses to Denver and UVA. What happened after that hot start? 3 of their next 4 games were against BC, UNC and Syracuse where they were outscored 56-20. That's a sure fire way to take away any momentum they had built up.

I can see that. Hopefully they'll have a better season from beginning to end. The tougher opponents seem to be spread out a little more evenly this year. We shall see.

Louisville has some real nice players, but so does every other ACC team. It's more cyclical for the bottom half than the loaded top.

I see the ACC in women's lacrosse in the same light as the SEC in football. The ACC contains more talent than the other conferences, but the Big10 can compete with any team in the country and is in play to win a natty every year. Northwestern in lacrosse and Michigan in football is an example from this year.

The talent pool is getting deeper and deeper. I hope there are more upset wins every year. I am usually rooting for underdogs in the regular season and playoffs. The continued success of Denver, Loyola, JMU, Stoney Brook, etc. only makes the sport better with more drama.

Louisville never seems to be able to make that next step. It is the coach's seventh year there and the recruiting classes have been mostly underwhelming for an ACC school which is surprising with how big the classes have been. 4-39 conference record since he took over. Can't see any way this isn't another 10 loss season.

Teeter clearly has a different recruiting strategy.

On a 40 girl roster, he had 4 girls from MD and 4 girls from NY (and none of NY girls are from Long Island). I doubt any major conference team has fewer.

Beyond yet, Louisville has

- 4 girls from Canada (makes sense since he is canada)
- 5 girls from Ohio (I guess its a close state)
- 4 girls from Florida
- 4 girls from Pennsylvania
- 2 girls from Texas
- 3 girls from Georgia
- 2 girls from Japan

#23 Maggie McMahon is from Long Island. Lead all of LI in goals in 2019 but she tore her ACL so she has not played yet for the Cards.

I’m surprised they don’t attract more high end talent. I understand the Scientology feel is a turn off to many but the dorms, the campus, The steak house, the movie theater. If it wasn’t for the Stepford wife like feel. 😁

Problem is the actually town is a bit rough. You're encouraged not to leave campus. But, it's also a dry campus. Couple of my daughter's club teammates went on visits there a few years back and they were literally in bed at 9pm. Not exactly the recruiting visit experience they get at most schools......

While their basketball team has had some great runs in the past, Louisville doesn't hold any glamour like Nashville and it is still a downtown city school. We already hear so many parents on here crying about safety and not sending their kids to certain schools--I'm certain that factors in here, too.

The quality of recruits for Louisville is mid-tier. Teeter hasn't had his knockout assistant he had back at Canisius, although he's still a good coach. I think it's hard to draw kids to the school for lacrosse.

My daughter didn't really enjoy the area when we visited and it just didn't spark any fire in her belly.

I hope Scott has a great season, as I'm always rooting for him, even though I'm not a huge Louisville fan.

I was surprised how little I saw Louisville on the recruiting trail this summer and fall. Didn't commit one MD kid...guess that's not his cup of tea (and runs along the lines of only 4 MD kids total on the roster...).

Son is a current senior at HPU ... dry campus? Uh, no. Active social scene, including Greek houses for men and women. Facilities are beautiful but they have some work to do to build out the academic rigor to match the stunning (and growing ... new hibachi restaurant just opened) campus. Assuming they have $$ for athletes.

Pretty sure it's not a dry campus. What Nido Qubein is doing for High Point's academic and overall growth is pretty remarkable. I have zero affiliation, but live close enough - and if you pay enough attention and actually look at what he is building on the academic side, its kind of interesting. And "rough" area? Maybe there isn't a lululemon down the street ...but I can name a handful of other top 20 campuses that are actually surrounded by areas a lot rougher. Not sure why I dove into this. I literally don't care

Is balance to be found during lacrosse season?

I sure haven't figured it out yet...

When one looks at all the games slated to be played opening weekend, and I'll bet most of them will be streamed on espn+ and other platforms, it can be a bit daunting for us fanatic fans. And this pretty much continues for the entire regular season. Scads of games every week. So many interesting teams and players and matchups.

https://www.insidelacrosse.com/league/wdi/calendar/2024

How many games can one watch in one day? How many full game replays can one watch after they've been played? Being a rabid lacrosse fan can be a real challenge. And I watch only D1 women's lacrosse. Couldn't care less about the menfolk.

To use an analogy--it's like crawling through the desert for 8 months, just yearning for a drop of water, just a little drink, when suddenly a rainstorm begins and it pours for 4 months. Too bad the season doesn't spread out over six months or so, but we're all fully aware of the college semester boundaries, which are rightly in place. I don't even have to think about it--I'll take the deluge. So it takes me eight months to dry out. Comes with the territory.

Keep your eyes peeled, folks. Soon ESPN and BTN Network will release the games which will be nationally televised. Always great to pore over and anticipate and kvetch about.

I pay for ESPN, but won't dip into the BTN paywall. More expensive for much less (relevant) content...

BTN plus is the mac daddy for me. $40 per year and I can watch replays back to 2016. I kid you not. They've still got games I can watch pre-shot clock era. ESPN plus (which I also ante up for each new lacrosse season) keeps games on their servers to re-watch for only 2 to 3 weeks and then they're gone with the wind.

YouTube TV is also a dynamite tool for women's lacrosse fans. Once I spy an NCAA D1 women's lacrosse game and click on the plus sign to record, I am prompted to answer if I want every single NCAA D1 women's lacrosse game recorded. (I did this years ago) I answer in the affirmative and I never have to worry about it again. Every single game gets recorded automatically. And I can watch them for like 11 months after they've been played.

Really only $40 for the year? I could have sworn it was much more. I get the ESPN/Disney/Hulu deal through Verizon so don't have to pay extra for ESPN anymore...

With BTN you can purchase it by sport. For lacrosse it's $39.99 for the year and includes all women's and men's games covered by the network that season. It's a pretty good deal.
