lacrosse games against Bucknell have been postponed due to the Naval Academy being under a restriction of movement. The women's lacrosse game vs. Bucknell has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 1 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium as part of a doubleheader with the men, who play host to Virginia.

@ now, Navy's MLax hosting UVA is still on & no make up date for Bucknell.

On May 1, Bucknell plays their 2nd game vs Laffayette.
Navy has no remaining sched bye weeks once play resumes at Laffayette on Mar 20.
@ now, no makeup of Bucknell at Navy unless mid-week.

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point men's lacrosse game against Colgate University, previously scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 13 at 1 p.m., has been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test within Army's Tier 1.

Rescheduling of the game will be announced at a later date.

NCAA TIER 1 DEFINITION: Tier 1 is the highest exposure tier and consists of individuals for whom physical distancing and face coverings are not possible or effective during athletic training or competition. Whenever we get back at it, we’ll see where we are.”

Navy men’s lacrosse coach Joe Amplo echoed those concerns and believes after a two-week layoff the staff has to start from ground zero.“You need to hit the reset button and go back to the basics. We’ll see where we are skills-wise and with retention,” Amplo said. “We are going back to lacrosse camp. We’ll have 15 stations planned for practice on Monday and the focus will be the fundamentals.”


Not a fan of the messaging from the lax coaches, I like the baseball coaches' stance...“We’ll be ready whenever the next game is allowed to be played.”. Back to the basics? sheesh, are these men and women that bad of players that a 14 day break made them forget how to pass and catch, run a 9 and 10 man zone ride, and get back in to 2-3 offensive formations....C'Mon man. What I hear from all this.....is excuses.

Agreed. It so damned hard to get anyone to actually talk about lacrosse anymore.

God Help the MIDS with Army/Lehigh/Loyola/Virginia on the schedule.

After multiple combat tours in Middle East, the words "ground zero" hold a significant meaning to our brotherhood/military team. But, We are dealing with Civilians that are trying to "Coach" the future military leaders of the Navy/Marine Corps.

Post WWII, ground zero to mids used to come from WEPS 400 geo location under the burst where yield/altitude were used to determine triple point.

Then it became the snack bar in the Pentagon center courtyard.

Then it became 9/11 WTC as we all know.

Navy athletics announced the following schedule adjustments due to the restriction of movement at the Naval Academy.

Wednesday's home baseball game vs. Mount St. Mary's and home volleyball match against Loyola have been postponed. The schools will attempt to make the contests up later in the year........

IMO:

Time will tell, but it's not looking promising for the MIDS to be back practicing today or tomorrow. The MIDS are still under restricted movements and confined to their rooms for a majority of the day/21 hours (of course masked up).

Something strange about all this. You pump 4400 kids in Bancroft for 21+ hours with crappy ventilation, masked up, expect them to get all their ya-ya's and anxiety out during limited & Isolated fresh air time, and yet they are uncomfortable even allowing practices? And they wonder why they are wearing down, getting sniffles, headaches, exhaustion, sinus infections, then sent to solitary confinement. And yet, the are not testing many of them during ROM....weird.

Seems they may just be trying to save money in testing and using 'new strain' as a cover, in hopes of getting them all vaxxed up with their first shot before cracking the barn doors.

Update from The Yard, Per the Navy Athletics Webpage- Navy's men's lacrosse game at Lafayette has been postponed. The two schools will work together to reschedule the game.

MIDS still are not practicing and under strict ROM.

7K doses of that AZ vaccine should be sent to USNA for the Brigade, faculty & support staff. Use them as a study group.

Save enough for all the crews of all the ships in the Fleet & other military units that would benefit from being vaccinated asap.

Thanks YA, for the PM heads up. Found this in the Capital. They started vaccinating the Mids a week ago today. First for those first leaving for summer training. Depending on which vaccine & how long to take effect, not likely to help with the spring sports season. Nothing special for staff.

Midshipmen will begin to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as early as Thursday {3/11} after the Department of the Navy authorized the Naval Academy to administer it, according to an academy announcement Monday evening.

The first midshipmen to receive the vaccine will be those participating in summer training, beginning May 15, Superintendent Vice Adm. Sean Buck said in testimony to Congress on March 2. His timeline, which he presented to the Navy, had the remaining midshipmen vaccinated in April.

“The Navy has prioritized vaccinating the operational forces first, and they’re developing very safe and healthy bubbles,” Buck said in a statement. “For midshipmen to participate in summer training programs to meet Navy requirements, we need to begin vaccinating them now.”

The Naval Academy is currently experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19, with nearly 200 midshipmen temporarily residing in local hotels to increase quarantine and isolation space within Bancroft Hall. The Naval Academy cannot release the number or estimate of midshipmen diagnosed with the disease because of operational security, said spokesperson Cmdr. Alana Garas.

While the midshipmen are currently in hotels, the academy is exploring all options for isolation and quarantine space if the coronavirus continues to spread, Garas said in a Friday email. During the H1N1 pandemic, ill midshipmen were placed in squash courts that had been converted to an isolation space complete with bathrooms and showers.

Based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, midshipmen who are allowed to leave isolation will be allowed to return to their rooms in Bancroft Hall.

“We know that there are new strains of COVID in the United States to include Virginia and Maryland,” Garas said in her email. “We do not yet know to what extent these new strains are affecting us, but it would be prudent to assume that these new variants are impacting our situation and the rapid increase in cases at USNA.”

The Naval Academy is testing randomly weekly and any midshipmen that might be symptomatic or had close contact with someone who is sick.

Midshipmen who receive the vaccine do so on a voluntary basis, as the vaccine is still on an Emergency Use Authorization. If the vaccine receives a license from the Federal Drug Administration, it could become mandatory. The press release did not say if the midshipmen will receive the Moderna, Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Midshipmen who were treated with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma for COVID-19 will need to wait 90 days before receiving a vaccine, according to CDC guidelines.

The Naval Academy will continue its schedule of vaccinating faculty, staff and employees who fall under Navy Phase 1B, including those who are deploying, frontline essential workers, those older than 75 and those with jobs that fall under critical national capabilities, according to the Department of Defense.

Those who fall under 1B can get vaccinated once the vaccines are available, according to the release.

Two thoughts:

1. On the issue of whether the Navy MLAX and WLAX coaches should be talking about the challenges of missing two weeks of practice in the heart of the Division I lacrosse season: Bill Belichick is one of the great coaches of our age. This year the Patriots were 2-2 and COVID struck. They could not practice for about a week. When they came back, they lost three in a row, starting with an ugly loss to a bad Denver team. Even BB needs for his teams to practice. I think it's reasonable -- particularly in a sport which is one of the toughest for goaltending -- to acknowledge that a total pause to all skill work and team drills, let alone game action, for two weeks is a significant hurdle. These are very smart kids -- and your average service academy attendee, Mid or cadet, is plenty willing to be cynical if they think somebody is blowing smoke. I would think they appreciate the honesty.

2. In terms of possibly having an affect on the spring sports season (even at the tail end) it would be good if the Mids get Pfizer -- 4 weeks from first shot to total protection -- rather than Moderna (6 weeks). But glad they have access to the vaccine either way, even if it doesn't help with paving the way for the spring sports Eason.
