Except for the FOGO, goalie, midfield depth, and rope unit…
MD losses Donville added to Cornell, then add Fletcher and move one of Piatelli or Long from attack to midfield with Teat filling that role. I’ll take Adler, Follows and Doria at base D. Petrakis would fight it out…..

Cornell squad all freshman recruits…..

Both coaches Cornell Alum…..

So we’re talking Teat/Kirst/Piatelli at attack, Long/Fletcher/Donville in 1st midfield. Perhaps the most devastating attack ever.

But I’d still take the Terps and the points. 8-)

Fair… unfortunately to the disappointment of players and avid supporters this didn’t happen…. But all seemed to make the best of it….

Angelo Petrakis is 3rd best faceoff man now, as analyzed by Lacrosse Reference. I don't see Rutgers' faceoff man Jonathan Dugenio on the list.

It's interesting that all the attention, and rightly so, that is paid to all the attackmen vying for the Tewy award, yet the leading goal scorer in the COUNTRY, has quietly been John Piatelli of Cornell. I believe this is his last year and for going through what he's been through missing 2 years of Lax, is just a testament to what the Cornell Lax program means to him.
Congratulations to Mr. Piatelli, and here's hoping you do what you do best, and help Cornell get 2 more wins.

And he is not just a goal scorer. Captain and leader; sets a great example for work ethic; rides hard. And great on ground balls-- it's amazing how many times he goes into a scrum and comes away with the ball. He will be sorely missed. As you say, let's hope he goes out in a blaze of glory. GBR

Do even Cornell fans think Petrakis is the third best FOGO in the country? He’s not in the top ten.

He's the faceoff specialist for one of the remaining 4 teams. That's all that matters at this point.

Ok… The response was to a post saying that he’s individually a top-3 FOGO (separate from Cornell’s performance in the tournament).

Take your complaint to Lax Reference. I only reported what they said.

MD at #2. 75%.
Cornell at #19. 53%.
Princeton at #25. 49%.
RU at #31. 45%.

I dunno...

So Petrakis is the 2nd best FOGO remaining!

Petrakis has had some bad games but has also gone toe to toe with some of the best this year. He got 50% against Sisselburger at Lehigh, 55% against Ignacio at OSU in their first meeting, even got 50% against Phaup at cuse. Phaup is one two fogos to get above 50% on Weirman of MD this year.

Angelo has been competitive against the most highly regarded opponents, and he improves as a game goes on. He has been a real asset to the Big Red this season. Based upon stats, Cornell should gain a slight possession advantage. If they minimize turnovers, Cornell should have more than their share of offensive sets. Also, Cornell has an advantage in riding, limiting opponents to 77.8% in clears - Rutgers allows 89.9% successful clears. This combination is a Cornell advantage.

Petrakis may not have been this high early in the season but the last 5 or 6 games have been his best and his last game was an amazing 15/19. Do I think he's top 3 , maybe not but he is definitely Top 10 and he has gotten hot just when Cornell needs him the most. With Cornell's great offense and stubborn D, if Angelo goes 50/50, I love our chances of winning.

I think you're cherry-picking his best games. He went 43% the second time against Ignacio, 42% against Yale's Ramsey, 28% against Army's Colletti, 40% against Dartmouth's Myers... these are all in games in April and May. He's pretty hit or miss.

I would put at least the following guys ahead of him right this instant: Wierman, Cole, Wietfeldt, Reilly, Lasalla, Inacio, Colletti, Naso, Myers, and Zusi. I've seen him play against several of those guys (Colletti, Myers, Zusi) and lose, and I've seen Wierman have a tough time with a few of them (specifically Wietfeldt).

Petrakis has been below 50% in two of the last three games. I think he's solid, but the wing play around him has contributed to his lower FO percentages (though it has improved dramatically since the middle of the season).

All that being said, he's one of the last four main FOGOs left, and Dugenio is not a top FOGO either. So I could see him winning that battle.

And... he didn't make the first three teams of IL AA attackmen. This Cornell team has been under estimated all year long.
