It would seem that no one would announce a transfer to FSU until next summer, right ? They wouldn’t announce they are transferring a year in advance and then not play for their current program , that makes no sense.

Idk. Allison Harbaugh announced she was transferring to USF last summer and completed her degree at ND this month. She just didn't play lax this year.

That’s what Sofia Chepenik did - transferred from Clemson, took a year off training at USF, will play next year. Kids who don’t want to use more eligibility at their current school will take a year off to train.

Are we sure FSU is still going to start the program?

Yeah, but when Chep transferred from Clemson, USF had the coaching staff in place. Cant see anyone transferring to FSU without knowing who the coach is.

From what I've heard, they have to (due to title ix rules). AND they have to start in 2025-2026 school year. Of course new NCAA court rulings could change things possibly, but as long as current rules are in place, FSU has to start the program.

Someone told me that contracts generally run June 1-June 1 so we could possibly start seeing things pick up in the next few days. Pure speculation on my part, but...

Either way, their handling of the situation makes one wonder how serious they are taking the program. If they do move forward with wlax it would not be surprising to hear they are moving their first season to 26/27. One year to get a team playing a regular season schedule seems a bit much. Wonder if FSU would be in compliance with title IX if they simply get the team funded and operational, but not officially playing games in the ACC until 26/27.

FSU program is a product of a title IX lawsuit. It is happening. To what level is the admin committed to the program…that is certainly in question. We’ve seen from Clemson what “committed” looks like, so we will have a great opportunity to compare and gauge where FSU is.

Could the James Madison assistant job posting and the FSU job be related? I could see Colleen Shearer being on the short list at FSU.

As someone said, JMU only had 2 paid assistants previously. Perhaps they are adding another...

If FSU cuts a men's sport, they wouldn't have to

It is a little more nuanced than that. Title IX isn’t necessarily a 1 for 1 situation. They have to consider the historical proportion of male/female at the school, aid being given to the programs, and opportunities to be given to programs (facilities, travel, etc).

I have no reason to believe the addition of WLAX at FSU is in jeopardy. I think they are doing their due diligence on a hire.

Title IX has improved things for women in college sports, but don't expect it to save things. Almost every school is out of compliance according to the Women's Sport Federation. You can google their site and their May 2022 report.

Lot of info in there, but here a couple good ones... Fifty years after Title IX was enacted, 86% of NCAA institutions across all divisions offered higher rates of athletic opportunities to male athletes disproportionate to their enrollment. Another good one - In 2019-20, male athletes received $252 million more in athletic scholarships than female athletes received. If athletic departments offered athletic opportunities to female athletes proportional to enrollment, they would have had to award an additional $750 million in athletic scholarship assistance.

While I don't think the addition is in jeopardy, I also don't believe the administration is working very hard on moving forward...
